There's no question this is an incredibly thoughtful layout. No cow pasture here. This is professionally done.
But it fails in being accessible to 10 handicappers and up. A good course design is difficult for all levels, but still provides outs for players who aren't scratch golfers. We're talking 5 on an occasional par 4. If there are very difficult, long holes where a 10 handicapper (not to mention 15, 20, 25...) can't score below 7 (forced carries, no layup area), then the design is fundamentally flawed. If a player can't miss an approach by one pace in any direction without a lost ball, there's something wrong. That's the case with River Ridge.
It's too bad. This course has many positives, and I really wanted to like it. But I can't recommend it. And I haven't a clue where the slope and ratings came from. They're way too low for the difficulty.
- Pros: Great condition; professional layout
- Cons: Unpleasantly difficult for most players
Plenty of Quiet at River Ridge!

After 3 trips to R.R. with my select friends I would have to say that this place exceeds all my expectations. I am average at best and i love the design and the pace of this place. Tee times are always available when you want them as they have 3 x 9 holes to play. Undulation is trying which makes it unique to this area. I would sum it up by saying, no hustle, no bustle, Just Rite!
oh yeah! the refreshment cart is always near.
- Pros: No Crowds, No Problem
You'd be hard-pressed to find a more scenic atmosphere than at this gorgeous tract situated along the Brazos River.

In Short
Seemingly countless, mature trees line the course, and head pro Brent Blackburn makes sure it's kept in immaculate condition year-round. Opened in 1998 and designed by Jay Riviere, the facility includes a full-scale restaurant and pavilion, and plans on installing a Global Positioning System in the near future. The course has a USGA Rating of 72.1 and a slope rating of 125. The greens are tif dwarf bermuda.
Can you give it a 12?

Absolutely the best daily fee golf course in the Houston area. Particularly like the fact that there are NO home along the fairways, just great golf with three different nines to play and each is a bit different but spectacular in their own right.
I don't wanna play anywhere else!
