Wow, this place is still as good today as it was 20 years ago...
Big Burgers, awesome Onion Rings, and great fries!!
Don't like nostalgic Houston joints, stick with the crappy chain restaurants that are all over Houston...
- Pros: Awesome Burgers, Onion Rings
- Cons: None
Best burger in Houston
by ianpblake
This has become my favorite burger joint in Houston and I haven't even tried the milkshake yet. Get the Bellaire special, a double meat, cheese and bacon burger that is not legal in at least 3 states. Be sure to have them cut it in half so it comes on a plate and you can catch all the goodness that is ussually lost in the little wrapper.
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: I did not know until I read this that they have milk shakes
Decent burger, but not great.
by caspianhiro
After seeing all the raves for this place we went to give it a try.
It's a good burger, but not 4 or 5 stars worth of burger. The patty was thin and didn't have much flavor, like it had been frozen. The vegetables were decently fresh, but someone had put onions in the lettuce (we asked for no onions) but not that big a deal. It was cooked right, but somehow lacking that good broiled flavor.
The interior oozes 70s hole-in-the-wall. It's looking long in the tooth, there's no windows, overhead florescent lights don't help much. But somehow, it's so run down, it totally works and makes you smile a little bit.
Onion rings were from Sysco foods I think, as are the crinkle cut fries. At least the fries are cooked until crispy.
My dining partner said it tasted a lot like Whataburger, she was right. Whataburger makes a good burger, but not worth driving across town for one.
- Pros: Worn out building has 70s charm, ok burger, ok fries
- Cons: boring onion rings, ok burger, ok fries, not worth the hype
WHATS GOOD FOR CHRIS!!!!! Great Charbroiled Burger-Just do it!
by WhatsGoodForChris
I just got back from eating here! Very Good burger, charbroiled just perfect! I did add a pinch of salt. The staff was friendly, although the interior decor was not up to date, that's what made the place ( and who cares). It takes you down memory lane for some, an Old Fashioned mom and pop hamburger joint. The prices were extremely reasonable. Where else do you find a soft drink with refills for .80cents? I highly recommend this place for burgers. Very fast service, and best of all, they do serve beer.
- Pros: Great Burger , great service, they have beer
A Timeless Institution...
by EyeSpyFriendswood
As already mentioned in other reviews, the Bellaire Broiler Burger is a fixture as the best burger institution not only for Bellaire, but also for the entire Houston area. Most average restaurants have to rely on their immediate neighborhoods to supply them with customers because their food is good, but not unique, memorable or lacks the "wow" factor. Not so with the Bellaire BB! People will drive for miles to get to one of those oozy, charbroiled, fixin' packed burgers! The place is regularly packed with vintaged patrons and signature grill smoke. One of my many blessings in life was growing up two blocks away from the Broiler Burger and practically being weaned on the "Bellaire Special" and the crispy krinkle cut fries! And although I am now 46 and live 25 miles away, I regularly find myself with that burning craving in the pit of my stomach and the unexplainable urge to drive to Bellaire! If you need a burger joint with contemporary decor, a waitstaff and a perfect grill ventilation system... go elsewhere. If you want a timeless juicy taste to your burger, a dark, unchanged retro decor and are willing to wait 10-15 minutes for the perfect burger to be cooked, then welcome to the Bellaire Broiler Burger! WARNING!!! Once you've had the Bellaire Broiler Burger experience, you'll have to fight the same primal urges as mentioned above!
Burger is one of Houston's best!
by dkh2160
On fridays we go in search of the perfect burger and have quite a few "burgers under our belt. Anyway, Bellaire Broiler Burger is one of the best. burgers we've had!!! The atmosphere is kinda of dreary and the ladies behind the counter are not only NOT NICE, but practically rude. That's too bad because the food is really good. Maybe a jukebox would help offset the lack of hospitality.
Just What it Claims to Be, But Better

For the past few months I have been checking out different spots that supposedly had the "best burger". So far I've tried Taste of Texas, Steak and Ale, Pappas, Becks Prime, a grill on San Felipe near Fountainview, and today Bellaire Broiler Burger. It wins hands down. I just go for a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoe, onion and pickel, usually with ketsup and mustard. Today, I tried the bar-b-q sauce. All the others were too big. Halfway through I'd be stuffed. This was just right, even had room for a half order of fries.
The cook even offered to put my grocery store ice cream in his freezer while I ate, since it was warnish today, Nov.29! That's what you call service.
- Pros: The food, the ambiance the 70's atmosphere
- Cons: None if you're a fan of "Diners, Dives and Drive-ins!
OLD FASHIONED EXPENSIVE BAD FOOD!
by scorpionaj
This place is great for the person who doesn't enjoy hamburgers. The service is awful and not friendly and the onion rings are bathed in dripping grease. The only pro in this place is that it keeps its old fashioned decor making you feel like you're still in the 70s. Overall if you're gonna have a burger just go to Burger King and have a 99 cent burger that surpasses the most expensive burger at this joint.
This is the best burger I ever had.
by zydecoking
If you want good food but not a snobby place to eat in, this is the place to be. I've been there at least three times and each time the food was excellent. Everybody that I've taken there enjoyed it and have gone back on their own. Hats off to a great place to eat.
- Pros: good food, on time service, worth the money
- Cons: bad parking
Longtime Houston burger mainstay for classic greasy spoon fare and a nostalgic atmosphere.

In Short
Over the years, many a Houstonian was reared on these flame-broiled burgers and crinkle cut fries. Menu highlights include the signature Bellaire Special burger with two quarter-pound patties, bacon, cheese and all the fixings or the deluxe burger with chili, cheese and onions. If you haven't been in a while, the interior remains trapped in the '70s and can get a little smoky, but fans of this mom and pop joint don't seem to mind.
