"WORST CHINESE FOOD EVER"

by dschultz58 at Citysearch

I consider myself some what of an conseuier of chinese food, I also like to try new places to eat. So I browsed thru the internet and found Daniel wong's kitchen, After reading some of the reviews I place an order over the phone (Wonton soup, Egg roll and General Toa's Chicken) the Wonton Soup was over cooked & Bland the egg roll was tasteless and the general toa's chicken was so sour I could'nt eat it. By far the WORST CHINESE FOOD EVER! When I made my complaint to the mgr, Instead of trying to make it right gave me all kinds of grief over the phone. Like I said this was the WORST experience I ever had with Chinese food. I would'nt give this rest. a recommondation if I got paid for it. A total ZERO from start to finish!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Outstanding Chinese Food and Service!

by ikom at Citysearch

Name one other restaurant in all of Houston that you can call and ask the chief to prepare whatever HE would like just for you and your family and/ or friends without having to select from the menu!?!?! I can't think of one other one. For many eateries, it's hard to get a substitution in a meal. So how many places are you confident enough in that you can give the chief free-reign? Well, Daniel Wong's Kitchen is just that kind of place! Menu items are sumptuous meals with creative names, or you might want something a bit more personalized - but, no matter what you are served, you can rest assured it will be delicious! Personal service is the name of the game for Daniel. Wonderful, warm, accommodating and most importantly, an excellent chief!

  • Pros: Thumbs up all the way!

Very special place

by wadz at Citysearch

To me, Daniel Wong's Kitchen is more then just a good place to eat. It's a place my girlfriend and I have spent 3 anniversaries at which makes it special to us. The actual building is small and feels like a hole in the wall spot but when you find it you feel like you've discovered a gem, and you have.

Some people say this isn't very good Chinese food, but really this is a southern and more healthy twist to traditional Chinese food. The prices are very reasonable, and the traffic in store is low, which makes this a great place to have a conversation over dinner. The food is excellent! I have a taste for the Mushroom Stuffed Chicken, but when I've ordered other things before I wasn't let down. Try the Roadkill Pork appetizer, you won't regret it.

When served you are given a rice bowl for the table, a plate, and your food will be on a platter. This family style serving makes sharing food very easy, and with a larger group you get an idea on what you're missing out on for next time. (I learned the duck was great last time I was there with a group)

I would recommend this place to anyone, even though I feel like I'm giving up my secret restaurant.

  • Pros: Great food, great price, little noise
  • Cons: I live kind of far away

Great food, crazy fast delivery!

by iluvstringbeens at Citysearch

This was my first time eating takeout from Daniel Wong's. I ordered two entrees and cream cheese puffs and egg rolls. The General Tso's was good, not too fried, and the other entree, a spicy steamed chicken with veggies was great! And the speed of delivery was amazing! We must have received our food within 20 minutes of ordering! Definitely my new favorite Chinese delivery!

  • Pros: Ridiculously fast delivery!

Hidden Gem, No Hype

by greyhoundgal26 at Citysearch

Daniel Wong's is a tradition in my family because the food is fresh, of excellent quality and always just plain hits the spot. It's a quiet little unasuming place - like so many of the best restaurants are. Very often, Daniel can be seen chatting with customers in the dining room. Don't like something or need a recommendation? He'll visit your table too.

Great place, not to miss.

  • Pros: fresh food, cozy, quiet
  • Cons: small delivery area

Spark your taste buds, feed your head, and walk out with a bounce at this tiny Chinese gem.

In Short
Health-conscious diners are among the many who frequent Wong's charming café, home of the master of Chinese-Tex cuisine. Try south-of-the-border turkey breast, wok-fried with basil and cilantro in wine sauce, or tender fiesta beef with piquant Mexican peppers. There's no skimping on the quality of the lean meats, and ultra fresh vegetables, barely oil-glossed. "Road kill" pork with black bean sauce, crisp snow peas and a splash of gin deserves a nicer name.

Check this place out!

by germancitygirl at Citysearch

I wanted to add a recent review because I am usually disappointed by the lack of good Chinese food in Houston. Growing up in a household with a rice cooker always cooking and a grandmother who can whip up a stir-fry or roasted pork, you KNOW good Chinese food! So this place does not have Americanized battered meat slathered in a sweet and sour glaze or overpowering sauces, or even a stunning ambience ... what it does have is consistently pleasing food, clever menu items, an inventive variety of dishes to suit any palate, and news clippings in the entry way illustrating that Mr. Wong has been cooking in Houston for a long while. Go to this little gem in Bellaire and have the Walnut Shrimp or the Road Kill Pork ... you will be convinced and hopefully you will go back! We go at least once a week =)

  • Pros: great menu, easy parking, excellent food
  • Cons: , decor

Caveat Emptor

by DayTripper at Citysearch

10/12/02 - Something has gone terribly wrong in Mr. Wong's kitchen. From the outset the dining area could stand for some dimmer lighting and some music please. As for the food, the presentation was awful. Our veggie dumplings came served on top of no more than 8 pieces of pathetic chopped lettuce. Presentation is not his forte (mind you this is coming from a guy who believes that duct tape is one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century). The dumplings were filled with more pathetic lettuce and no flavor. The hellfire shrimp were equally dissappointing. I wouldn't waste my time if I were you.

  • Pros: Not crowded
  • Cons: Awful food

Lucky find. I'm new to Houston and asked a "native" Houstonian where I could get some good Chinese food. "You like good Chinese? You've got to try Daniel Wong's Kitchen, my family has been going there for years." Great suggestion! Excellent food, good service and fair prices.

  • Pros: good food, good service, good prices
