Friendly and Affordable

by ldaddicks at Citysearch

My husband and I went to Neal's for dinner and it was very good. We were very happy! I had the sirloin steak which was delicious for only $12. They are known for their hamburgers, which I found out they ground their own meat to make and the chicken fried steak is legendary. We usually eat on the healthy side so it was nice to see that Neal’s had a bunch of options for ordering many items grilled. We tried several desserts, which I am not a big dessert fan, but these were so good that even I ate dessert and loved it. The staff was very attentive and friendly. We will definitely go back.

  • Pros: Big menu, tons of options, friendly staff, delicious dessert

Excellent BBQ and Burgers

by Ivo1 at Citysearch

My wife and I went to Neals on the Friday after Thanksgiving, The main dining room was about half-full but some more people (mainly families) came later. The wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The menu was huge. They had something for everyone - steaks, burgers, seafood, Tex-Mex, a selection of local wines, an enormous desert menu. Altogether we were very pleasantly surprized. The prices for the menu items definitely beat anything you can find in the less suburban parts of Houston. I had a BBQ plate and my wife had a steak. Both were very well done. We were told the place was known for its chicken fried steak, which we will try next time. The table next to us had burgers and they looked amazing, so that's another item on my list for a future visit. We will definitely go back.

  • Pros: Huge Menu; Friendly Staff; Very Reasonably Priced

unfriendly service and more

by blimbing at Citysearch

I pass this place frequently, and since we eat out appr. 3x a week, we wanted to try the homestyle cooking. Perhaps it wasn't intended, but as soon as we walked in (we're African-American), we sensed a 'cold' or 'indifferent' welcome from the gentleman at the door with the peculiar hat ! We probably should've turned around right then. We wanted to give this place an honest try, as good homemade food is hard to come by these days. We were polite to the waitress, but a smile was too much to ask, it seemed. The food was mediocre. But worst of all, out from behind the old newspaper pages that plaster the wall of our booth, appeared a small c-r----. We were very disappointed in everything, and definitely won't visit again.

  • Cons: service and ambience not for us

THE BEST CHICKEN FRIED STEAK IN TEXAS!!!!!

by texasspicegirl at Citysearch

Let me repeat:

THE BEST CHICKEN FRIED STEAK IN TEXAS!

I have grown-up with at home and tasted chicken fried steak at restaurants all of my life, (being a native Texan), and have proclaimed my home cooked chicken fried steak was the best........until I went to Neal's Restaurant. I indulge in this sinfully delicious comfort food as often as I can, especially since it is offered on the lunch special daily. Don't be fooled by imitators; this one is the best.

I have been eating at Neal's for over 3 years now both lunch and dinner and the food is always hot, homemade and delicious. I am a very varied eater and my suggestions include obviously the chicken fried steak, fried mushrooms, (insanely good), the stuffed shrimp (wow), crawfish ettouffe (heavenly), steaks cooked to perfection, yummy Texas BBQ. I could go on and on. For true country cooking this is the place!

The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is great and you feel like a part of the family.

  • Pros: True Texas Hospitaliy, Great food
  • Cons: I cannot eat there more often

Fresh Food and Friendly service

by RyanDennis at Citysearch

Neal's is my family's favorite place to eat. We always get the homegrown fried zucchini appetizer.....it is so delicious!! My kids love the cookie they get when they finish their kids meal. My daughter is allergic to cigarette smoke and even though they have a smoking section, since it is in a completely separate room, she has no problem there. My favorite is the grilled catfish and my husband loves the bbq. You simply must try the made from scratch desserts.....especially the blackberry pie. The service is fast and friendly and it is not too expensive to eat there. The owner even comes to the table to check how everything was. We will definately tell our friends to come and eat there. When my parents come to visit they always want to go there....my mom loves the margaritas and homemade salsa!!!

  • Pros: Fresh homegrown food made from scratch
  • Cons: they don't have pizza....my son loves pizza

Never eat there again

by arwserve at Citysearch

Worst dining experience in 12 years. To preface this I travel 4 to 5 nights a week and have eaten out all over the US. The food was cold and the service was just as bad. The staff also blinked the lights on my family and my parents that night. I guess they wanted to go home after such a bad display of food service. To add insult to injury the waitress added 15% for her service or lack there of. So I asked her to have Neal give me a call and left my cell number on the ticket, it has been 2 weeks and I have not heard from Neal. To bad Neal, not only did you lose customer but everyone I talk to will hear about my experience.

  • Pros: They did have a parking lot and a bathroom - almost forgot the water was good!!!
  • Cons: cold veggies, bad service, blinked the lights to inform us we needed to leave after only being there for 45 minutes,

Best homemade food in Spring

by kn1021 at Citysearch

Great food- they claim to make everything homemade and it really tastes like they do. The Plate Lunch special is less than $6 and you get a lot of food (1 meat, 2 vegetables, and a dessert). It's a great value for the money and the people are reallt friendly. The owner, Mr. Neal, even walks around the dining room and visits with people while they eat. Sometimes its hard to find a parking spot in front, but they have a lot of extra spaces behind the restaurant. Great homemade pies & cakes. Give Neal's a try one and you'll get addicted.

  • Pros: Homemade Food, Reasonable prices, Easy for wheelchairs
  • Cons: , Kinda loud, Lots of kids & babies
