Incredible BBQ, even with stellar competition in Houston
by coog78 at Citysearch
Great location. Lots of outdoor seating to melt the northerners in the summer. The roasted duck is to die for. Brisket is done very well and not overcooked, juicy and delicious. The jalapeno bread goes well with the plates. Potato salad is pretty good. Nice plate of goode co. bbq and a cold beer is a great meal any day of the week.
- Pros: food, location
Best You Can Get, without Making It Yourself

Well, reading reviews on City Search of barbeque places, is very up and down; kinda' like riding a roller coaster. One reader gives a place a shining five stars, while the very next reviewer gives the same place a one star. And I'm not talking about Goode Co., just barbeque reviews in general, on City Search. I've tried quite a few of the barbeque places in Houston over the years, and Goode Co. is one of the better places. Plus I happen to like their Kirby location. It's close to Rice Village, close to Downtown, and convenient to West U. and Bellaire. The people working here are friendly, the service is good, and they serve remarkably consistent BBQ ribs, chicken and sausage. I especially like their turkey sausage and their pork ribs. Unless I'm in the mood to buy mesquite wood and make barbeque myself in the back yard, this place is the next best thing. ....Nice, mild smoke flavor, and friendly service.
If you want the die-hard, strong-kicking mesquite smoke flavor that's second to none.......................well then you'd have to come by my house on a Sunday afternoon, when I have the barbeque grill going.
- Pros: Fresh, Mild-Smoked flavor
best eats for cheap

i don't know to what level of high cusine you might choose to elevate your idea of bar-b-q to. but this place on kirby has been there and serving it up to rave reviews for as long as i can remember. although over the years they've expended into other areas of the restaurant business, they've kept it unchanged - basic and simple - here. you get a choice of your basic meats - links, chicken, beef, pork (turkey in the fall) and sides. dirty rice, potatoe salad, cole slaw, etc. bottled beer on ice is available out of an old 1950's ice house style cooler. indoor seating can be hard to find at peak hours, and the service line may seem rediculously long, but they actually move you through very quickly and eating outdoors is fine even on the hottest Houston day. prices are reasonable and the food is great. very adaquate parking. it's a friendly, great place that almost anyone from houston knows about and likes.
- Pros: great food, good prices, fun atmosphere, free parking
- Cons: none
The service was good. The portions were disapointing. The pigeons were irritating.
by KDogSenoir at Citysearch
The service was good but the facility was dirty and seating inside was limited. The brisket sandwich was served on an excellent roll, the meat had a great flavor but the portion was disappointing (I spill more meat when I'm making a sandwich!). We were forced to eat outside and battle the pigeons. ISo, we decided to load up chunks of the roll with Tabasco Sauce and fed it to the pigeons. It discouraged their begging to a point that we could finish our lightweight sandwiches. This experience would have been worth it if there was three times the amount of meat that Iwe received on our sandwiches.
- Pros: Barbeque had good flavor
- Cons: Not enough meat unless you can catch a pigeon
Try the other location

The food is great but the environment leaves a lot to be desired, mostly because the indoors is very small and crowded and the outdoors is very hot during the summer. However, there is another location on I-10 west of the 610 loop (8911 Katy Freeway) which has an INCREDIBLE environment and a lot of seating. I recommend that location. The building is also very cool, it comes across like a mix between a classy riverboat and a western saloon, with a two-story dining area. The brisket and sausage are my favorites, the meat is tender and has great smoked flavor. The bbq baked potato is fantastic, albeit a bit small, and the potato salad is the best I've ever had. Altogether the best BBQ around, which is saying something in Houston. I would rather eat there than just about anywhere. The jalapeno bread is good, too. Add an ice cold Shiner Bock beer and you've got a taste of heaven.
- Pros: Great Food, cool crowd
- Cons: Crowded, try Spring Branch location
So So BBQ

I have visited Goode at least three times while visiting Houston and I have been dissapointed each time. There are alot of different meats to select from, but the side selection leaves a lot to be desired. Coleslaw, mac salad and beans and that is about it. The big dissapointment is how dry the meat is. I tried different meats at each visit and they were always dried out. Also don't eat outside unless you like to be attacked by pigeons. They are all over the place. I will try a different BBQ joint on my next trip to Houston.
- Pros: Nice cold beer.
- Cons: Marginal BBQ and Killer Pigeons fighting you for your food.
Over hyped
by mg1001 at Citysearch
The only thing I like here is their jalapeno bread.
Definitely over priced & over hyped. Very disappointed with the bbq sauce (actually has a weird after taste), and just the food in general.
BLAH!
- Pros: Jalapeno Bread
- Cons: Price & Food
Badbeque!!! You will feel robbed when you leave this place!
by douglabwoy100 at Citysearch
This place is so overrated and overpriced! We went because of the hype, thats the best thing there. They don't give you plate bigger than a kids meals and it will cost you your first born! Don't give your money away! I have had $3 street corner bbq better than this place!
- Pros: They employed people and they pay taxes?
- Cons: The food!
Best BBQ in Houston
by debandaug at Citysearch
It's the best. I like ribs without sauce, so the meat has to be great and juicy alone. They slow smoke everything which makes it very tasty. They also have the best pecan pie and potato salad I have eaten in a restaurant. Try it. But beware there is usually a line, like all good restaurants in houston.
MM! The most delish BBQ in Houston!
by astro09 at Citysearch
Goode Co. has some great BBQ! I live in Austin where BBQ is plentiful so I know my BBQ. Whenever I go back home to Houston I always make a trip out to Goode Co. BBQ because their food is just that great! I have never been disappointed with anything that I've ordered on the menu. The bottom line: their bbq is scrumptious, and I can feel my mouth beginning to water for some now.
- Pros: Good food
- Cons: service (there is nobody waiting on you)
