My first trip to House of Guys (Kirby) was in '78, after dime night at the O.P. It was perfect then and is still the same. Let's face it - Fat omelettes ( chile-cheese is the best thing after a night of cocktails) with those sliced-tater-tot cottage fries, battery acid coffee, a smart mouth waiter / -ess and a slab of pie to wrap it up. Nirvana!

Also, if you ignore the whiny-assed slackers you can still find a half way decent boyfriend - to - be

at 3:30 A.M. It doesn't get better than this for a middle aged former disco bunny!

When you want good cooking!

I don't know of a better place in Houston that you can get a WONDERFUL cheeseburger, and the best type of fries, and the coolest staff! It couldn't get any better than this! You also got to dig the $1 sodas and iced tea! When you come here, try the french silk pie, it is to die for!

There is no where else in Houston that you will find an all night diner that caters to families, disgruntled teens, middle aged homosexual couples and students at any time of day. The food is mediocre, but the experience is home.

one of the best burgers if Houston, If you are hungry,they really dish it up. The pie is not my favorite, but try the sundaes! They rock. They come in a big old-fashioned sundae glass with all the trimmings. Try the Homemade vegetable soup, and the grilled ham and cheese sandwich, or hamburger club.

I found my diner!

I moved to houston recently from the east coast and one of the things I miss is diner food in this,the land of dennys and IHOP. My girlfriend recently took me to House Of Pies (Last evening actually) and I was surprised. I enjoyed the food,coffee(real diner coffee,not that "flavored junk") and especially,the pie! I also have to give respect to the staff who is both friendly and attentive(Take THAT Dennys).

• Pros: Everyone Loves Pie, Great Atmosphere, Excellent staff
• Cons: Parking

24 hour breakfast and dessert!

My favorite thing about this restaurant is that they serve breakfast 24/7. The omelettes are fluffy; try their French toast too. Their soups are either great or mediocre. You can't go wrong with any of their pies or cakes. On the sandwich menu, I recommend the Turkey and Swiss Melt. Their grilled cheese is out of this world. Cottage fries are a perennial fave, but I prefer the O'Brien.

• Cons: Crowded/noisy, long wait Sat. nights

The selection of pies is cruel and unusual punishment because you can pick several you WANT but order only one that you can EAT. These Pies are a treat and are consistently fabulous.

best grilled cheese

this is the best grilled cheese in all of north america. well of all the places i've been to anyway, which is a lot! if you want serious grilled cheese with three cheeses, you owe it to yourself to go here. go to the kirby one though, the westheimer location can be iffy on the quality of food.

i think everyone else has pretty much hit on all the other positive things about this place, so i won't be redundant.

Coffee,Pies,Breakfast

A very good cup of Coffee. Plain coffee not flavored just good coffee. The pies are also very good. I have found the breakfast to be suprisingly good. The best thing about this place is the people you see come in at any time 24 hours a day. A great place to meet freinds and chat.

• Cons: can get very busy, parking can be tight
