Late Night Munchies

House of Pies is really good when you need something to eat at 2:00 in the morning. The clinentale is pretty interesting around this time too. If you go for people watching, you'll certainly catch an eye-full as you enjoy a nice peice of pie.
- Pros: Cheap Eats, Late Night Fix
Love House of Pies
by freaktwin at Citysearch
I've been going to the House of Pies off Westheimer for years now, and I never get tired of it. I love the o'brien potatoes and pie. I recommened the Bayou Goo and banana cream. The cakes and sundaes are great too, when you don't feel like pie. It is a great place to just hang out with your friends and talk. The service is always great too!
- Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food, Great Service
- Cons: Crowded
my new favorite late-night breakfast spot
by luvthafunk at Citysearch
I just went the other night and got completely full off some pretty darn good breakfast. I would definitley say this place is much better than Denny's or IHOP, and who wouldn't rather support some local business's anyway? I had the Acupulco Breakfast with the potato's o'brien style and the only thing I would have changed is maybe got fries or hash browns instead. The o'brien style potatoes were good and worth trying, its just that hash browns are just hard to beat in my opinion. I was recommended the turkey sandwich by a friend and might have to give that a try next time. I had a friendly waitress and would deem the service very good from my experience.
- Pros: affordable
When it's three in the morning and you must have pie, turn to this egalitarian River Oaks hangout.

The Scene
Part all-night diner and part pastry shop, with the vinyl-and-Formica decorative appeal of a bowling alley, people come here because people come here--and that bit of circular logic has remained pretty much unbroken since the place began serving up slices of chocolately Bayou Goo in the 1970s. Its very lack of pretension is appealing, particularly given its elite location between River Oaks and West University. Delivery truck drivers, society matrons, curfew-busting high schoolers and off-duty cops--all are welcome.
The Food
With sugar-free pastries, classic fruit favorites and sinfully rich offerings like the multi-layered Bayou Goo and chocolate cream--all freshly baked--there's a pie for every craving. The all-day short-order menu offers typical greasy-spoon fare, but the drink sizes are generous and the staff is the down-home friendly type you'd find in any Southern diner.

This place was great even when I was in college twenty years ago.

A Nice little place to eat
by lipglosschic at Citysearch
I really like House of Pies. It's a nice little diner. Come inside and you smell a funny smell, that's the only thing that's negative that I got to say. Oh well. I return because their food is terrific. It's delicious, it fills us up, what more could you ask for? My fiance especially loves this place to. We really like to order their cheeseburgers and cottage fries. Their French Silk Pie is something special, but we stopped ordering it because we are trying to lose weight. You can't go wrong if you are choosing to dine here at this diner.
per person minimum sucks
by lynnemcdonald at Citysearch
This restaurant charges a $2.50 per person per table per hour minimum charge. So don't go here unless everyone in your party plans to buy something other than coffee every hour you're there.
- Pros: cheap coffee, good French toast
- Cons: , bad service
