Doesn't like men

by EnergyMedicine at Citysearch

I think this is a great place for women. She seems to have a disdain for men. The main instructor and her instructors seem to have a lot of mental issues and project it onto students. They'll then claim that they don't judge. Talk about denial.

  • Pros: Nice place for women
  • Cons: Prejudiced against men

Best Yoga Classes in Town - Bar none

by lindsayd9 at Citysearch

Katherine Bumbaugh is the best instructor I have had the privilage of working with - bar none. I keep trying other classes and they are either too hip, too "24-hr fitness aerobic", and/or they care nothing of postures/proper technique. Yoga Hmmm was all about balance of body mind and spirit. And technique was everything - not whether you could accomplish the pose in the minimal amount of time. I hope Yoga Hmmm, Katherine and her other instructors will consider opening another studio. Oh, how I miss you!

  • Pros: Ambiance
  • Cons: stairs to old studio

Classical yoga training is off-site, at client locations and other pre-arranged venues.

If it's yoga you're looking for . . . look no further.

by pboydrmt at Citysearch

I found Yoga Hmmm after many futile attempts to "get yoga". I had always been disappointed. That is until I found Yoga Hmmm. I am part of the older generation and was sadly stiff and sore and I was desperate to improve my flexability. Kathryn Bumbaugh was just what I needed. Her classes are fun, she's fun, she has the ability to incorporate your abililty into her classes without making you feel "special". In my estimation, she is what defines a yogi. She is intelligent, insightful and doesn't take herself too seriously. As a teacher, she helps you achieve your goals and reach even higher. I highly recommend Kathryn's classes and workshops. She really has a realistic handle on this yoga thing for all levels of interest.

Best Yoga for the Body & Soul

by vmorr at Citysearch

Yoga Hmmm is the premiere place to do yoga! You won't find a more supportive, fun, stimulating, happy environment for your practice. The classes are challenging, but not beyond anyone's ability. The teachers provide traditional hatha yoga in a way that adds humor and heart. What I enjoy is that it isn't like other places where the instructor just sits at the front and calls out postures. The teachers at Yoga Hmmm walk around the room to make sure that everyone is getting it. And they are always available to talk through your questions. Every class gives you an opportunity to work your body, mind, heart, and soul. I've tried many different styles of yoga at many different places over the years. This place is the best of all. Namaste!

  • Pros: Location, Atmosphere, Instructors

A new feeling of peace

by docedo at Citysearch

The studio is in a great location with easy access off Westheimer. There is a welcome feel as you enter the space -- very light reception area, then a warm darker area for the practice. The dark and light are separated by gently flowing fountains and seats where you cann leave your shoes. Unlike other area yoga classes, Kathryn and her instructors vary each class with new poses. They know the common name for the pose as well as the traditional name and they know how it benefits the body. I like that so many of the poses benefit internal organs that I don't even think about. Each instructor spends individual time as needed with students. All are welcomed. There are lots of extra mats and pillows if you don't have your own.

Also, there is a small area where you can buy books and other yoga supplies. It's a great place to find your spirit!

  • Pros: location, variety of poses, humor
  • Cons: upstairs

Excellent teaching, and relaxing environment

by mchart at Citysearch

Kathryn Bumbaugh, creator of Yoga Hmmm, is one of the most inspiring yoga teachers I've ever had the opportunity to learn from. Motivating and inspiring me to become a yoga teacher myself, Kathryn's positive outlook and inspirational confidence is unwavering. These qualities, along with those of other carefully chosen and trusted teachers of Yoga Hmmm, shine through the yoga studio. Kathryn is always willing to share information and talk with students about personal hindrances and growth, allowing for much more personalized direction.
