Best Japenese for the money
by ClintMear
I love this place. Their lunch is pretty good, but no place can beat their dinner buffet. I've ate here about 10 times. I'd eat here more often if it was closer. Their quality of food is second to no buffet. I love their Duck.
- Pros: Dinner
- Cons: Lunch
Watch your credit card charges....
by BigToe22
Food was good and I had a good experience here until the next day. WATCH THE CHARGE ON YOUR CREDIT CARD BILL. I paid via credit card and slashed a "0" there the tip amount and the wrote in the total amount because I left a $15 CASH TIP. Well, I checked my online statement this morning and they charge me an additional tip. So, basically this was unauthorized charge.
- Pros: Good Food
- Cons: Unauthorized charges on my credit card...
Always a winner

I have been going here for years and always been satisfied. I enjoy the seafood as much as the sushi.
My wife is from Brazil and is an extremely finicky eater..especially regarding rice and seafood. But she loves Kirin's. I have recommended Kirin's to many friends, and everyone of them has loved it. Most sushi restaurants are too expensive for what you get. Kirin provides a lot of options at a reasonable price.
Go Hungry, leave happy....
- Pros: Lots of different sushi at a very reasonable price
- Cons: I wish they were open all day long.
Kirin II - FM 1960 Is Excellent Value for the Money - Great Sushi!
by reginafug
We have been to this retaurant about a dozen times and we have never been disappointed.
The trick is to go there early in the evening, when the buffet lines are short, as the the restaurant fills up quickly!
I disagree with some of the negative opinions because $22 per person for "all you can eat sushi, sashimi, snow crabs legs, oysters AND boiled shrimp", can not be found anywhere else in town!
As another patron pointed out, 1/2 dozen oysters at most seafood restaurants go for $6.95. Can't beat the value and the quality for fresh seafood!
Servers: I think they are attentive, refill drinks as needed, without asking and they take away dirty dishes fast, keeping the tables looking fresh.
Food Quality: Is very good, food trays are kept looking good, half-empty trays are replaced with full ones.
Cleanliness: I've never found the place to be dirty. Floors are tidy, tables are clean, dishes/utensils are very clean. And, so are the bathrooms!
Overall Opinion: Very Good. We go there mostly for the fresh seafood, sushi and sashimi!
- Pros: Fresh sushi/sashimi made continuously, oysters, snow crab legs.
- Cons: Can get crowded, especially week-end nights

Choose from more than 80 entrees including salmon, sushi, sashimi, crab legs, salads and lamb chops at this all-you-can-eat Asian buffet.
Good price and service
by nculpepper
I went on a Sunday right when it opened and everything was fresh! The the restuarant quickly filled up but my server was very attentive there were never any dirty plates on the table and my diet coke stayed full. I think that this is a good value. Twenty bucks for all the sushi you can eat. I promise the snow crab looked like king crab! My waitress even brought I melted butter without me asking. I guess there wasn't a lot of hot foods, but for all the crab, boiled shrimp, oysters on the half shell and sushi who needs hot foods. A dozen oysters in other establishments start at $6.95 this is a good value.
- Pros: Assortment of sushi and large crabs!
- Cons: Hours of operation on Sunday
Why go to Kirin II when there are so many other great choices?
by mowid
The Galleria area of Houston has dozens of oriental restaurants; sushi, buffet style and others. You can get a good fill-up for about $10 at a lot of them, and their food quantity and selection, and the restaurant decor will be better than what you get at Kirin for $22. I don't understand how Kirin stays in business. Not that the food was awful, but they are practically surrounded by people doing the same thing better and cheaper.
- Pros: Food was OK
- Cons: High price - low selection. In contrast with most buffet places that offer low price and high selection
The Quality is dropping
by stickybb
Every time I went to Kirin, I felt the foods are becoming worse. The fishes are so not fresh. The refills of dishes and water are so slow. Server or bus person do not pay attention to the customer. They do not bus the plate from customer?s desk. Dozo or Miyako have better buffet than Kirin does.
- Pros: all you can eat sea urchin sushi
- Cons: quality of the food and service, location
A Great Place to Start
by basil4prez
As with anything food that is served in a buffet format the quality is not the best. I have found that the price for lunch is sufficient for the desperate sushi patron looking for a quick fix. If said patron is desperate enough to venture into the Willowbrook Pseudo Sushi Cuisine in the first place.
Dont get me wrong. I frequent this particular restaurant once a week, and recommend it to anyone who wants to try something resembling sushi before jumping in wallet first to one of the more authentic establishments in the area. (By area I mean not the immediate vicinity, perhaps somewhere between Champions Forest and Stubner Airline.)
If you do happen to find yourself visiting Kirin in the evening make sure you REQUEST a Spider Roll from the chef. It baffles me every time I think about it, but Kirin has the best spider rolls around.
- Pros: all you can eat, best spider roll, reasonably priced
- Cons: pseudo sushi, buffet format, little debbie dessert
