What users are saying:
Houston's smaller, second airport, this vintage operation provides a convenient alternative for domestic passengers.
by Contributor
In Short
This is Houston's "other" airport, a smaller, older but at times much more convenient option for domestic travelers. Ten miles southeast of downtown, it's generally more accessible than far-flung Bush. Acquired by the city in the 1930s (and named "Howard Hughes Airport" briefly), Hobby accommodates eight passenger airlines through 30 gates, Southwest being the most prominent. Although it has been efficiently upgraded (and a massive parking garage attached), the airport continues to show its age, though some may find it almost charming.
beats bush

HOU is a sixties airport, but baggage claim is easy, car rental pickup and return is a snap, and for user-friendliness it beats IAH by a mile.
Update

Dear Sir:
Your review of Hobby Airport is historically
informative but needs updating for the present.
At this time only Southwest, Delta, American and
Airtran fly directly out of Hobby. Further expansion
is in the works with a new concourse being built.
It should have been opened a year ago but because
of labor disputes, it slowed the process down. The
new main concourse should be open by early this
next year. Six food outlets and two lounges are
available at present, but will change, with new restaurants added to the new concourse. This is
just an update delivered with pleasure!!!
- Pros: conveniant, close, Inexpensive parking
- Cons: Inadequate trans, Bad Roads, gloomy
