Wonderful Breakfast!!!
by dragonfly 88 at Citysearch
The pancakes are uniquely spongy, the eggs are fresh, and the bacon is thick. I love this cafe for Sunday mornings, it feels like your in the country, even though its in the middle of a large city. Pancake sandwich is perfect!!!!
- Pros: comfortable atmosphere, great food!
- Cons: cashier doesn't seem enthused
Horrible
by Bartzee at Citysearch
I have had lunch here several times with friends while I always thought the food was ok to good at best and was way overrated in some of my friends mind. Today I went into the Fountain View Café for breakfast with 2 friends who has never eaten at this cafe.
Without a doubt the worst breakfast I have ever ate. I was trying to think that maybe in basic training I’ve had a worst meal. I came to the conclusion that this meal was the worst breakfast that I’ve ever had that came out of a kitchen including mess halls.
This is what we experienced:
The omelet actually not to bad
The scrambled eggs were over cooked and bland
The eggs were unseasoned and bland (possibly best since they seem to only know about salt)
Bacon was over cooked, poor quality and very salty
Biscuits were not biscuits but something between a biscuit and a roll that fail apart when you touched it.
Hash browns over cooked
Grits over cooked mush with a pad of butter in the middle
Gravy is salty chicken base with some type of salty pork floating in it.
Juice and coffee were fine
Poor quality food along with bad preparations has all the making for a horrible meal.
- Pros: Clean and friendly staff
- Cons: Salt, poor quality of product and salt
like a small-town diner; but in the middle of big city

service was adequate, food was enjoyable; atmosphere reminded me of the small town joint where the old men gather to complain about the weather and drink coffee. I would definately go back.
BEST SOUTHERN BREAKFAST IN TOWN!!! Addicted to this place

I tried this place out a year ago after reading all the rave reviews on citysearch. they have AWESOME breakfast and even though I always get the same thing, it's amazing. the Biscuits are soft and flaky and buttery, the sausage gravy has a ton of flavor and goes really well with the biscuits AND grits. the eggs are always cooked to perfection. they also have great old fashioned burgers and onion rings which are great. I'd come to this place every weekend.
- Pros: great food, nice people, not crowded
- Cons: closes at 3, food may take a while to come out
Watch out for the double dippers
by HoustonPaddy at Citysearch
I've been going there for 20 years. Same old grumpy head on the owner that's too mean to buy a smile. There's always butter in the jam pots from the double dippers. Buy individual cups of Dickinson or smuckers or knotts berry or something. Place is always busy and the food is average. But I still like to go, I don't know why, it must be the atmosphere.
- Pros: It has the feel of home
- Cons: The Filthy Jam Pots
Great breakfast spot!

Fountainview Cafe is a great neighborhoood breakfast place! Just went there this morning, and our meals were prepared exactly how we like it! The "swedish-style" pancakes were thinner than traditional pancakes (but not too thin), resulting in a light pancake. My over-medium eggs were not runny nor hard, the bacon was crispy, and the grits cooked perfectly (i am from New Orleans). With a coffee and large soda, it came out to $13. What a deal! The food is made to order, so dont your meal delivered too quickly (about 20 minutes or so). But if you want a good home-cooked breakfast, in a laid back neighborhood atmosphere, Fountainview is the place...
- Pros: good food
- Cons: closes @ 3pm

In Short
Though this casual diner-style restaurant isn't open for dinner, the hearty breakfasts more than make up for the mid-afternoon closing time. Step up to the counter and order a stack of hearty pancakes, sausage and biscuits, or BLT and steak out a table. Clientele is a mix of kid-toting regulars and hungover folks in need of a little grease. If it's lunch you're after, the Café is known for their juicy, two-fisted burgers and chicken fried steak.
Great Breakfast Spot

Great value, great food...a real humdinger. Straight out of the 80's to mid 90's the FVC offers great food....only people who hate themselves would refuse to eat here. Oh, and after breakfast you can head over to Ron's.
- Pros: Great food, quick, tasty
WONDERFUL

I found this place when I first moved to Houston and we end up there at least once a weekend, if we can find a place to sit. I love to spend time there on Sundays, reading the paper and drinking coffee and ESPECIALLY eating their wonderful food!
- Pros: Inexpensive, Good parking, Breakfast all day!
