Bad service

by rajaa25 at Citysearch

They were giving out discount cards at the IFEST and we decided to visit Thai Gourment as a result. The food was good but the service was horrible. After we finished our meal we left the server a decent tip and also provided the 10% off coupon. The server went to the manager and the manager informed me that I had to purchase a beer for the discount. I showed the manager where the card read "10% discount on dine in only" and nothing about the beer. She then called the owner of the restaurant at home and the owner wanted to talk with me. She changed the story and told me that that they made a mistake on printing the cards and would not honor it next time. The manager agreed to give me the discount this time. So she pulled my receipt and I was shocked to see my nationality on the receipt with exclamation marks. The server was apparently not happy with my tip and wanted to vent her frustration on the receipt. I showed this to the manager and she was sorry and gave me a 15% discount. This place is racially profiling people based on the amount of tip. So, eating at this place is anything but fun.

Worst food ever

by ma2009 at Citysearch

Driven by at thai food craving my husband and I went there last week. My flat rice noodles were burnt and clearly reheated, the presentation and the test were terrible. My husband had an equally badly reheated rice dish that sent him to the ER to hours later for the rest of the night. To top it off they charge 1 dollar extra for EACH shrimp and they you cannot find them on the plate.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: reheated spoiled food

I have eaten at dozens of thai restaurants around the country (and also in Thailand), and they have the best food which is also authentic. You must try the cheese rolls. Food is on the spicy side.

  • Pros: cheese rolls
  • Cons: little ambience

Best Thai food in Houston

by longhornlady at Citysearch

My mom lived in Thailand for several years and makes Thai dishes quite often. My mom's yellow curry is THE BEST. Ever since I went off to college, I always crave her yellow curry. Thai Gourmet is the first restaurant I have come across that tastes authentic, and I've been to several in Austin, Houston, and Dallas. Their yellow curry tastes just like my mom's. I LOVE IT! Most Thai restaurants cook their potatoes separately and just throw them into the curry when a customer places an order. The potatoes don't soak up the curry flavor and end up being bland and undercooked. At Thai Gourmet, I think they cook the potatoes in the curry because the potatoes were exactly the way I like them.

Their levels of spiciness are unlike those at other Thai restaurants, so be extra careful when specifying how spicy you want your dish. In fact, I would ask for the waiter/waitress' advice.

I highly recommend Thai Gourmet! I will never go to another Thai restaurant in Houston!

  • Pros: Authentic
  • Cons: Hard to spot, tucked away in the back of the shopping center

authentic thai

If it's rated top 100 Thai Restaurants in the US, you better believe it.

The Pad Thai is like no other. I guess I had been eating the Americanized one. Hot is really hot, and I wouldn't try Thai Hot unless you want to be on the toilet all day. Spicy Cheese rolls don't sound Thai at all, but they are well worth an order. I have yet to try the whole menu, but everything I have tried so far leaves me very satisfied and empty plates.

  • Pros: food
  • Cons: slow service if really busy

Best Thai Food. Period.

This is the best thai food around. Try the spicy cheese rolls, satay, garlic chicken, and spicy chicken noodle. But beware! Hot is HOT!!! (I love hot food, but i order medium hot). The service is attentive and Kru Pong (owner, ) is always smiling and makes you feel welcome.

Best Thai Styled Food in Houston

Dee mak, aroy!

Great Thai influenced food. Must admit I never saw cheese in Thailand. They do a great job of blending flavors, texture and color.

Go off menu if you dare. Let them choose the foods and heat level based on Thai traditions. You will not be disappointed.

Curries are very convincing. Massuman is complex and satisfying without removing mouth tissue from excess heat.

Basil based dishes are very authentic tasting. Fish dishes are excellent, fresh and light.

Excellent Food, great personal service

by muskaan112 at Citysearch

This is one of my favorite places. The environment is authentic, the mural on the wall is amazing, you must visit this restaurant just to admire it. The food is amazing, I highly reccomend the Pang Nang, the cheese rolls, and their spring rolls. Service is fast. The establishment is small, but worth it. Their to-go packaging is wonderful. The plastic containers really help lock in the heat so its not stone cold when you get home.
