Horrible Service and costly
by AniB at Citysearch
The front desk people are rude, and never give me the time I want. The hair cut is for old people and really expensive. So I used to pay a lot for a cut that made me look years older. This place is ONLY good for rich and old housewives.
Amazing Masseuse!

I recently went to Tova's for a massage after hearing great things about Berta. She has magic hands! I've been to several of the day spas around this city and while traveling, and Berta definitely provided the best massage I've ever experienced! She quickly identified my problem spots and used the perfect amount of pressure to work on them.
I left feeling like a new woman!
- Pros: Berta!
Not very ZEN
by zenzen at Citysearch
I have been coming to this quasi-spa because it's very convenient to my home and have been putting up with its dated, definitely not clean, over-rated ambiance. Yesterday, at checkout time, I noticed the receptionist speaking rudely to a patron and was flabbergasted by not only the mannerism but what she was spewing out of her mouth toward their own customer! I hope the woman calls the Better Bus Bureau. It was appalling! I think I'll try Fiori, Sensia, or Norris which I have heard nice things about.
- Pros: location
- Cons: rude mgmt, dated salon, over-rated
Unprofessional

While making the appointment, I asked the cost of waxing and was quoted $145 for the waxing service I needed.
At checkout, I was being charged $185.
I told the receptionist, Hallah, that I was quoted $40 less. She said that I didn't speak with her, that I spoken to Jeni/Jenna. We called Jeni over and she remembered talking to me and confirmed the price quote that she had given me. But Hallah, rudely told Jeni that she had misquoted and that told me that Jeni didn't wax and was new and didn't know any better. I said that I had an appointment at another salon , the Trellis for the following day and so when I called and got the quote, I decided to cancel my appointment at the Trellis and get waxed at Tovas. So since I was misquoted, they should stand by the price given me.
She continually argued with me, meanwhile raising her voice more and more and continually becoming rude and extremely unprofessional. I laughed and said, how about the customer is right concept and especially in this case where the appointment was made because of a quote. She rudely told me, that in this case I was wrong and that I would have to pay the full price and if I had a problem, that I needed to speak to Tova! I asked to speak to Tova, but she was on vacation. I asked to speak to the manager and he was on vacation, and my luck this unbelievably rude, overbearing, unprofessional RECEPTIONIST, Hallah, was in charge!! She was yelling at me at the top of her voice because I was calmly telling her that I would not pay that price...which was making her so mad. She said I must pay, I said I would pay the quoted price which Jeni had confirmed, she said that I was giving her such a hard time for $20? I said it's not $20, it's $40 and it's also the pricipal. She continued being more rude and obnoxious in front of everyone and said that if "you cannot afford 5 star pricing...so you shouldn't go to one"
I STILL remained calm but continued speaking and said, that I was a resident member of Houstonian and went to Trellis...she then said, "well don't come here anymore!" She can rest assured as long as Hallah works at Tovas, I will never go to the salon, even for my beloved colorist, Parvin!
I felt like a queen! Will return!

I am truly shocked to see so many negative reviews on this place. I can only assume that the salon has made some changes, since many of the negative reviews were from 2007/2008.
I went to Tova's on Mother's Day weekend to cash in my gift certificate for a "Full Day of Beauty" spa package. I loved it as soon as I walked in - it looked so posh! The receptionists greeted me with a smile as soon as I walked in. They were very sweet and helpful. They went over my schedule with me on the sofa and were even able to squeeze me in for a last minute highlight appt by my request! I changed into my spa day attire (smock, robe, and flip flops given to me by the salon) and placed my items in the locker. I was free of all distractions!
My day started with an amazing European facial. Afterwards, she brought me upstairs in a serene waiting area for my massage. The massage was just ok, a little too soft for my taste but still relaxing nonetheless. I think it was just the style of my massage therapist as I heard they are all very different. Afterwards I went back to the waiting area "the waterfall room" for about 5 minutes. They brought me to a quiet room just for me which was already set up for my lunch. I had selected from a short menu when I arrived at the spa that morning. I chose the Classic Ceasar Salad with grilled shrimp which was PHENOMENAL to say the least. I also had a glass of white wine and a glass of ice water. They left me alone for my lunch which was nice. When I was done I returned to the waterfall room and finished my wine while I read a magazine. They came to get me for my spa manicure and pedicure which were done simultaneously. The ladies were very nice and sociable.
When this was over, they took me downstairs for my hair and makeup. My cut was scheduled with Connie and my highlights with Terry. Oh boy did I get lucky being scheduled with Terry! He is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Connie ended up asking him to do my cut as well, just because she and some of the other stylists like to watch him work. He has his own unique style that looks a bit reckless, but I wasn't worried. He cut my hair first, while it was still dry, and amazingly it looked so much better already! (even with my inch of roots still showing, yuck!) He did my color next. I never gave him a word of instruction. He did his own thing and it turned out better than I ever could've imagined! (similar to what I already had, only 100 times better) I'm seriously considering going to him from now on, in spite of the fact that he charges almost double what my regular stylist charges. I felt so sexxy after he was finished and I still had no makeup on! Lastly was my makeup with Janie. She was so fun to talk to and made me look so sexxy! I have had makeup done before at other places and I've never been impressed so I didn't expect much. But she knew what would look good on me and she went for it! I was turning heads everywhere by the time I was done at that place! Even other clients and spa workers were coming up to me telling me how amazing I looked! I felt like a QUEEN! I enjoyed every second of it and I can't wait until I can afford to go back! This place is NOT inexpensive by any means but it's definitely worth the price to splurge a little every now and then! Highly recommended! Especially Terry and Janie!
- Pros: staff, ambience, quality of services, extras
- Cons: pricey

I recently moved to Houston from L.A with my husband and as a new girl in town was looking for my new Hairdresser.I was told to go to a upscale salon in Uptown Park ,after paying an L.A price my once shiny long blond hair was a Dull,Greenish Orange pile of hay. They should have given me a xanax with my tea! .My personal trainer told me of his Haidresser Adam Jeffrey at Tovas we decided to cut off the worst of the frizz but not all of it as I would have had a very short cut. He fixed my color and I decided to recreate the look of my L.A hair with Extentions . I now look the way I have wanted to look since the Uptown Park debacle .I now have my new Houston Hairdresser and with his advice I now have my Houston Dentist ,Gp and Dermatologist. Adam Jeffrey is a wealt of beauty knowledge and Im glad I found him
- Pros: everyone was friendly warm and caring
- Cons: none
My Hair Journey, part IV

Tovas was recommended to me by a co-worker with a similar hair type. Her hair was cute so I thought I'd give her stylist a shot. I was a little surprised when I found the salon, as it's not very salon-looking on the outside and is pretty dated on the inside. Nevertheless, I was excited to meet my stylist (I believe her name was Rebecca?) and get a great haircut. The stylist greeted me with a limp handshake and sat me down for a quick consultation. I had recently had my hair done by my hair soul-mate in my hometown, and it looked fantastic although it was getting a bit long, so I asked the stylist to please follow the cut that was there and just trim it up a little. She agreed and set to work... and we never spoke again. Seriously, it was the most awkward 30 or 40 minutes of my life. I don't need my hair stylist to be my best friend or therapist, but at least ask me, like, where I work or something. And it's not like she was busy chatting with the other stylists around us (which would have been rude in it's own right), she just silently cut my hair, and I silently sat there, and tried not to make eye contact in the mirror. This would have been unpleasant but bearable if she'd done a good job with the trim, but she somehow managed to turn my cute-yet-slightly-long layered style into an all-one-length tragedy on my head. And on top of that, she didn't take nearly enough off so it was still too long. The finishing touch was half a can of hairspray and some teasing, and she finally broke her silence and said "I followed the cut you had but made some changes that are more flattering." I begged to differ, but honestly I was just so glad to be out of her chair I paid the $80 charge and high-tailed it out of there.
very disappointing

This was the worst facial I've ever had. The spa is over-priced and needs updating. My facial started 10 minutes late and it was very sloppy - lotion and soap were spread all over my lips and hair. I know extractions are never fun, but these were extremely painful (after a day, my face still has red splotches all over it). In the middle of my facial, I was told the lady would be back in 10 minutes - she was gone for 20. In that time, I heard her phone go off twice in the room. I was hoping the facial would start to get better, but to my surprise it was over. When I checked out the guy asked how it was and I said "okay." As I was signing my bill, he was chewing out the Kerastase representative. He then tried to sell me on coming back and trying their salon. Hmm...no thanks.
- Pros: none
- Cons: sloppy, unprofessional
Very nice spa

I had a day of beauty here. It was very nice. The staff was helpful, and I really loved my hair. The spa area is very quiet, but the rest of the salon is kind of loud.
Cut and Color Very Satisfied
by steinway0320 at Citysearch
Luis was recommended to me by a friend at Tova's. He is always very willing to work with me on the color and so far, has done a beautiful job. His cuts are magnificent. I always feel like he is considering me as a unique person and he works hard to make the cut compliment the shape of my face and the color to go well with my skin tones.
Been going for about one year. It has all been good so far.
