Great price, wonderful rooms, nice staff.

Don't get me wrong, having to pay through the nose to park is really ridiculous, and the 17 or 18 dollars to valet is outrageous, but the staff and quality of the rooms make up for it. I stay at this hotel regularly when I just want to get away from my house. At one point I was staying at least two times a month. The room rates are great, and the view is spectacular. I always request a corner room on a high level that's north facing and they NEVER fail to deliver. I must admit, I haven't had roomservice/food on site, but every thing else is spectacular. The pool is well kept and is very refreshing on a weekend away, and I just can't say enough about the friendliness of the staff. I'm also notorious for late checkout, too, and they're always willing to accomodate me. It's quite nice. I plan to visit for a weekend again very soon.
Oh, and the beds are extremely comfortable, too!
- Pros: FRIENDLY staff, very accomodating.
- Cons: Have to pay to park, and if you valet, it takes them FOREVER to get your vehicle.
Both sports fans and business travelers will appreciate the location of this moderately luxurious hotel.

The Scene
The Renaissance Houston Hotel--with its white columns and black, metallic facade--is perfectly situated for travelers doing business in the nearby Greenway Plaza corporate complex. Greenway Plaza is located near several corporate headquarters and is next to The Compaq Center Sports and Entertainment Complex. This 20-floor hotel overlooks a Houston freeway, making it a short drive to many city attractions.
The Details
The 338 guest rooms have been designed with comfort and convenience in mind, and the decor tends toward the simple, in shades of tan and cream. Rooms cater to workaholics with work desks, two-line telephones with speakerphones and data ports, and some also offer wet bars. A newspaper is delivered to your door Monday through Friday. Concierge services, a safe deposit box and a hair salon/barber shop are available.
Worth a visit

After a huge renovation, this hotel deserves a second look. The great location gets you to the Galleria or to Downtown in 10 minutes. If you're able to afford the Concierge Level (or if you are a frequent Marriott stayer), the new plush beds and sparkling clean rooms are great. The new lounge offers some great food in the early evenings with a fairly wide selection of hors d'oevres and the Concierges are downright Texas friendly.
Check-in can be a real bear though. Nothing worse than being told that because the hotel is so busy, they don't have enough staff to serve you. I waited over 20 minutes the last time I checked in.
- Pros: location, newly renovated
- Cons: lean on service
