Could have been better

After going to other Zoos in the country the Houston Zoo really was not what I expected. The whole zoo just looked like it needed a lot of work. The area was kind of dirty and many of the animals had been moved to another exhibit. The children's zoo was closed altho im sure it probably was not all that. The staff is very friendly and know all your questions so that really did help. The park outside the zoon and the area the zoo is in is really fun. It is a great place to have a picnic and spend some time with your family. The zoo itself really did make you wish for more. If you have never been to a zoo before then this is a good zoo but once you have seen better it makes you wish the Houston zoo had worked a little harder.
- Pros: nice staff, parks are nice
- Cons: Price, dirty, parking
Love it!

I love the Houston zoo! The last time I visited, I had my grandsons, ages 7 & 8 now. They had a blast!. I think we saw every animal and attraction in the park. We even had a picnic there; just don't feed the birds. If you don't feed them, they won't come.
I particularly don't buy the food because of expense, but nevertheless, the Houston zoo is a great place to spend time with family friends or meet new friends.
- Pros: Children friendly
- Cons: The heat and humidy
What started with one bison has grown into a collection of exotic and domestic animals in Hermann Park.

Facts
When a bison named Earl was given to Houston in 1920, it unwittingly became the city's first zoo animal. Others followed: secondhand circus animals, unwanted exotic pets and an elephant. The boundaries of the park comprised 30 acres in 1925; today, it has an additional 25 acres and houses more than 5,000 animals.
Features
The facilities include a tropical bird exhibit, the large and small cat houses, an extensive collection of reptiles (including an albino alligator), the Wortham World of Primates, a two-acre rain forest and natural habitat, and the recently upgraded Children's Zoo, which allows kids to pet various farm animals. The Brown Education Center offers daily exhibits, as well as a "Meet the Keeper" presentation, at which children can learn about the duties of zookeepers.

The houston zoo is located nicely in one corner of the herman park near the museum distict in houston. It is a pretty small zoo compared to the more famous ones in other cities. They have quite a good collection of animals from all around the world, but I think they can do better in terms of landscaping to suit the habitat of the animals. They do have special events during holidays, and while they're fun, parking is a huge problem at those times.

The zoo here is wonderful! The admission prices are great. The exhibits are clean and well kept and the animals are the number 1 priority. Very educational and just a fun and safe place to take the family.

I don't think there is anything bad you could say about this place. The childrens part of the zoo is a lot of fun and the kids really love that. Esp. the petting zoo.

This place is so much fun for the family. They did raise the price this summer, but is well worth it. The train is wonderful too. I think that was my son's favorite part.

I have been to lots of zoos around the country. Houston has one of the best. First, it is huge! It will take you most of the day to get through it and see most of what you want to see. They have great habitats for the animals. this zoo is very economical. Good fair prices. Also on several days a year you can get in for free, I think martin luther king day is one of the free days. You can check their web site for more information.

I have family all around, so i have seen lots of zoos. None compare to the Houston Zoo. I take my children there at least 8 times a year. They even send announcements when a baby is born there! they take the time to show my kids how animals are, different demonstrations, etc. It's such a wonderful family place, and the price is perfect for a big family on a budget!
PROS: everything
CONS: nothing

this is such a wonderful place, with so many activities, there are things to do for everyone. Lots to learn and enjoy. Kids have special areas for fun and everything is kept neat and clean. They also have a gift shop and as always everything is a bit expensive there. Also during festival season they have wonderful celebrations for kids and it is so much fun
