Easy to get in and get out, I love the sauce, my favorite thing to do is get a link of sausage and slice it up and but on a slice of bread with lots of sauce. This place also has a very steady bar crowd with lots of regulars. Sausage, brisket, and ribs are all very good with lots of flavor. I have never tried there sides or other meats.
- Pros: Sauce
WORST BBQ & Service

Upon walking in the joint it is like a local neighborhood bar. Older white men hanging around the bar. The menu is very limited. I ordered the turkey, and when I saw it, it looked like turkey from a can. I tasted it and it tasted like fake turkey...meaning I dont believe that it was real turkey at all! So, I switched to chicken and it was black and tasted five days old. It had no smoke or seasoning flavor. The potato salad was tasteless. Wanted to add pickles, so went over to the condiment section and it was filled with GNATS. They were all over the pickles, onions, and relish. My friend ordered the sausage and it tasted like grease and some unknown meat. The ribs were dry and had no flavor. The coleslaw was mildew and caused my friend to gag. We left all the food on the table and left. Our meal was $28.00 (way over priced) Didnt even taste the beans. I would not be surprised if they picked it up and resused it. all the meat looked at least a week old. WORST food in my life. The service people was slow and just stood there looking at us.
- Pros: NON
- Cons: Thumbs down

Having moved to Houston several years ago I was told about Luling City Market and how great it the food was. I passed by it and stopped with friends and was not very impressed with it. I am originally from Luling and had the best BBQ there, so the only thing good about this place is the name and nothing else.If you want good bbq worth the trip to Luling to get the best.

I love BBQ and have eat at lots of BBQ places, this is by far the worse place I have eaten at. The place is a cafeteria style. They serve with their bare hands, the guy pick up my meat with his bare hands, no gloves. I had a plate of brisket and ribs with two sides potato salad and cole slaw. The meats were so dry making it difficult to swallow. The sides were not good and tasted old. It is over priced for the quality of the food. Would never go back there again.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Dry meat, old tasting sides, over priced.
BBQ Gone Bad

My husband and I dined at Luling City Market last night. I had heard and read for years how great it was, a Houston BBQ institution. We happened to pass by so we thought, yeah we'll give it a try. Upon entering the place was dirty looking and filled with elderly neighborhood types at the bar. We proceeded to the area where you can order. The menu was almost non-existent. Brisket, ribs, sausage and I think chicken. The guys working behind the counter were not helpful or welcoming. It was kind of a "what do you want" atmosphere. I ordered the brisket plate and was only offered one side (it's supposed to come with two), and I had the potato salad. My husband ordered the brisket a and sausage plate and the coleslaw (his order also sans the second side). We were offered bread and the guy stuck his bare hand in the bag and pulled out two slices. We went over to the "condiment bar" which consisted of white onion cut into 1" wide slices and some cheap dill pickles. If you want the "good" pickles you have to pay for them!!! It was expensive enough as it was. I spent 28.00 on a little brisket and a bad side. We sat down, ready to dig into what a lot of people have touted as the best bbq in Houston. What a disappointment. The brisket was dry, tasteless and the outside was so hard it felt like swallowing broken glass. The sauce was not good but made the meal palatable. The potato salad was bland (but edible when doused with the sauce) and the coleslaw equally as bland. We would not recommend this place to anyone (we like) and will not be returning.
- Cons: dry brisket, bland sides, service, dirty, value
Fantastic BBQ!

Absolutely fantastic BBQ. It's a cafeteria style, they have brisket, ribs, sausage etc. I had the brisket and sausage combo. I'm not normally into brisket, but it was perfectly lean and tender. The sausage was great, just a little spicy but not too hot. They serve the food on paper, and the sauce is on the table. I read one of the other reviews said the beans were excellent - I wouldn't say they were anything special, but definitely good. If you want good barbecue in a casual ambience, you have to try this place.
- Pros: Fantastic BBQ
- Cons: Informal, cafeteria style - i didn't mind but might not be what you're looking for
Unquestionably the best BBQ in Houston

This is in an unlikeley location for a really good bbq joint (near the gallereria inside the loop). Being a student of both bbq joints and making bbq of all kinds, this placed surprised me. The ribs are very meaty and must be slow smoked for days to come out so good with fat rendered out of them. The sausage, chicken and turkey are all quite tasty too. If you rate your bbq on brisket, I only give these guys a B+ though. Don't take my word for it, let the people speak....case in point if you do not get there before 11AM for lunch, the line is out the door. Sauce (usually not noteworthy in most places) is unique and tasty. The chains like Pappas or Goode can't touch this!
- Pros: Real Texas BBQ
- Cons: Limited seating

Eaten there a couple of times. Not noteworthy. Living off the great reputation of the real BBQ joints near the real Lulling and west.
Pass on this one. Go to William's Smoke House or to the Swinging door, or better yet, take a short trip west and get some real BBQ rather than this substandard want-to-be stuff.
- Pros: A poor imitation want to be.... No pro here unless you maybe count distance to real Q.
- Cons: Poor imitation want to be. Pass
Yucky and dry brisket... don't waste your money

My husband and I favorite BBQ place is Salt Lick (Driftwood/Austin area). This is our baseline for all BBQ places we try. Unfortunately, this place is a bust. My brisket was very dry and my husband was a little more moist only because he has lots more fat. We would never go here again. I agree with other reviewers, drive out of town to get good BBQ. So far, we can't find any good BBQ place in Houston. We tried other places too (Goode, Pappas, Luthers), all not up to par.
- Cons: BBQ is not good, sides are not good
I wouldn't bother!

We were actually going to Bayou City for lunch, which we love, but when we smelled the BBQ we thought "why not?" I had never been here and I always heard it was really good. I'll never return! I had the potato salad and a sliced beef sandwich. The salad was so bland, the meat was dry and the bread was rock hard! I asked if I could add some slices of sausage to my sandwich and they said no! I had to buy the whole link which he didnt bother to slice! It definitely wasn't worth it! It was mushy and greasy. My friend had the ribs which he said were ok. Also, they are WAY overpriced! I didnt intend on spending $28 for a sandwich, salad, 3 ribs and 2 drinks! Goode Co. is still the best in town thats for sure! I'll never go back to this place again!
