great food, great service, great music

by bhrwtz at Citysearch

We've been a few times, but had stopped going on the weekends because the music in the dining room was so loud! They have a new pianist and singer that is wonderful. The food was wonderful and creative as always. The manager stopped by and chatted with us and the waiter was very attentive. We had a bottle of the suggested wine and shared the pear/apple dessert with ice cream. Delicious! We'll be back for the great food & service as well as the new soft Frank Sinatra style music. We love Ouisie's Table!

  • Pros: food, service, music
  • Cons: not much... wish valet were free

Great food, relaxed atmosphere, excellent service

by kfuchs at Citysearch

I have been coming here for years. I love the relaxed, and non-business dinner, feel of this place. The jazz duet on Saturday evening was a bonus. Our waitress was splendid, coming by to give information and pour another glass of wine, but was not too visible or intrusive. As usual, the food was outstanding. The peppered tuna was perfectly seared and the blue cheese steak was cooked to perfection, as was the chocolate cake for dessert. We appreciated the diversity of the menu (heavy and light) and the number of affordable wines. There was a wedding going on in the side room and we had no idea. Service was still on point and the noise level was not affected at all. Still a big thumbs up for Ouisie's Table!!!

  • Pros: Great food and ambience. Finally a good restaurant that isn't for business dinners!

One of Houston's Finest

by livewelleatwell at Citysearch

A friend heard me bragging about Ousie's Table and told me there were some negative reviews on line. I looked and had to respond with my own experience, especially since one never can tell when negative things start showing up whether it's really true or part of a campaign for some other reason. I have eaten at Ouisie's many times, and most recently took associates from Paris there after they asked to eat some of the Southern food I had bragged to them about over the years. Our evening could not have been better for me or for how a couple of well-versed French visitors now see our city. The brandied oysters started the compliments and the quail and also the chicken-fried venison kept them going. I have heard since from mutual friends in Paris who said they have heard over and over how great Ouisie's is. That is not an easy thing for a Parisian to admit! Ousie's Table is one of our city's finest restaurants. It's food never gets dull. The rooms are wonderfully comfortable, and the staff has always been professional. One assistant manager even heard my associate's accents and began speaking French with them. My biggest regret is if any of these negative reviews has caused one person not to experience the best for his or herself.

  • Pros: Imaginative food, wonderful ambience and a true, modern taste of the region
  • Cons: If you don't like to valet, but it's also a small lot

Last time at the table

by ladyindining at Citysearch

I used to always choose Ouisie?s when I wanted to have a great lunch. Lately, however, I have become increasingly disappointed in Ouisie's. The reasons I liked this restaurant were that I could enjoy a lunch with friends, get good service, good food, and enjoy the fact that the ambiance was conducive to conversation. Ouisie's was our favorite. Sadly, my last visit this past week will probably be my last visit. A friend took me there, her treat, to celebrate. I was embarrassed that my favorite lunch place served us each a sad little crab cob salad composed of one boiled egg, about a cup of undignified lettuce, and probably at most one third cup of crab that still had shell in it. We had plain iced tea and plain coffee for dessert. The price tag was over $50.00! With tip and the $3.00 valet charge, we went away without dessert (the waiter never asked us, we had to ask for bread too, and he never came by with a pepper mill) and she spent over $60.00 for a very mediocre lunch for the two of us. I was ashamed to have suggested the restaurant. I won't suggest it again! There are too many places in Houston where one can get a lovely meal and not feel somehow "cheated."

  • Pros: location
  • Cons: food, expense, service

Enjoy tastes of the South, combined with regional Gulf Coast accents in one of this Galleria-area restaurant's cozy dining rooms.

In Short
Owner and executive chef Elouise Adams Jones presents Southern cuisine accented with inspirations from Texas, Louisiana and Mexico. The main dining room is spacious but retains an intimate quality, with a homey fireplace and a large blackboard announcing daily specials. Other rooms provide uniquely decorated indoor and outdoor settings ideal for group dining and special events. Menu favorites include chicken fried steak, sea bass, chicken curry, lamb chops, fried oysters and a selection of fresh salads.

Great place

by soadnirvana at Citysearch

The prices are outrageous for what the menu offers. I remember my cousin having her wedding in the courtyard and her reception in the back room. It was a very beautiful, packed wedding with good food. The pecan crusted chicken breast stuffed with spinach was great.

  • Pros: good food
  • Cons: outrageous prices

Not the same Ouisies

by movedtoaustin at Citysearch

I was dissapointed... I rember the place as it was when it first opened in the old location. I've moved to Austin and was looking forward to an old favorite. I guess I'm tired of the "Southwetern" food. Its pretty much all the same.. pecan crusted something and somthing covered in cheese... But, I guess if you like that, its the place to go.

Good for a one time experience

by js123 at Citysearch

Nice restaurant but way overpriced. Good for one of those splurge type dinners where you just don't care to spend more than the food is worth. Also, when making reservations, request a table in a good location or out of the way if you desire as they supposedly number you to a specific table and seat you where they want when you show up. The chocolate cake they make is really really good. It was not bad but I've had a better chicken fried steak at a "bellaire area grill" for almost a third the price.

Just did it right !

by realvillain at Citysearch

Went there the other day with my wife for her birthday. Ordered a cocktail and was given ample time to drink without being harassed into ordering - a lesson that some places could learn. The wine list was comprehensive and contained clear indicators of where the vintages may change. The food menu didn't look elloborate or ostentatious; with listings of mac & cheese and cheese grits, however when it arrived it was fantastic. The mac & cheese is worth every penny and the best I've ever had, no sign of glow in the dark cheese. The lamb was great; not on the anorexic side with the choice of a million different sauces. The chicken was spectacular, not like the "other non-descript white meat" that is to be found in some restaurants. With fantastic service great ingredients & a solid menu it all added up to a wonderful experience.

  • Pros: Service, Quality of the food, Ambiance

IMPROVED!

by dontmesswithtexas at Citysearch

In the past year this restaurant has turned from being good to being outstanding. It is known for the "ladies who lunch crowd" and the "who's who" of Houston socialite scene. But it's growing and its progressing to become a worldclass restaurant with a southern flare. I love the crispy crabcakes for a starter or the yummy stilton salad. The lamb is the best I've had. Go quick before this place become the next "IT" restaurant in Houston.
