by megnix02 at Citysearch
i made reservations there for my mothers birthday on the 29th of december a monday! There was absoultly no parking what so ever! the whole parking lot was full and had a lines of cars following the others around the parking lot in circles!!! with 3 cars coming to the party it was impossible so i found one parking spot in a parking lot behind the restraunt to get in a hear that they have no reservations for our party of 15!!! people where hanging out the door and around the entrance!!! awful!!! so the others headed back to katy and we ate at saltgrass instead should have went there to begin with!
- Pros: good menu
- Cons: no parking!!!!!
Great breads, steaks and deserts!!!
by captaincoec at Citysearch
The salad bar has been revamped but still lacks much. It offers mostly the basics while charging almost $10.00 for it. The steaks are great, the breads are great, the deserts are great and the service is great. I've been a fan for at least a dz yrs going there several times a yr. Hope to see it continue to prosper. I don't understand the negative reviews. I can only believe it must be for the owners political views. Those negative reviews are completely unwarranted. It's too bad people have to bring politics into the mix and lie after, I'm certain, enjoying a great meal. The prices are in line with most other steakhouses in Houston. I will continue to enjoy their foods in the future. Re/ the wait for seating: no reservations equals a long wait and that's only because the place is great, otherwise people wouldn't be coming back. While you wait they offer free soda and tea drinks as well as chips and salsa, and popcorn; where else does one get that? The service has ALWAYS been prompt whether the restaurant was 1/2 full or full. Everyone that I have taken there has loved it!!!!
- Pros: The very best breads, steaks and deserts in Houston
- Cons: puny salad bar
Lifelong customer confounded by mixed reviews
by hollieberry09 at Citysearch
This locally owned restaurant has been a favorite in my native Houstonian family for over a decade. We always go there for special occasions (birthdays, graduation, etc.). Sure there are no reservations, so you have to wait, but they have a huge comfortable waiting area with a bar, popcorn to snack on, and plenty of TV's to watch, if you're not the type to converse with your party. The prices are high, but they would hardly be in business if they weren't, given the quality of the food and the entire experience.
Once you're seated, every experience that I've ever had was extremely positive. The service is fast and friendly, the salad bar is so amazing it is difficult to leave room for the delectable steak. Be sure to try the cinnamon-honey butter on your rolls. The filet mignon wrapped in bacon with garlic butter is to die for, always perfectly cooked, and NOTHING like Saltgrass or any other chain steakhouse, whose steaks are like hamburgers in comparison. Grilled balsamic portabella and steamed asparagus with hollandaise are my favorite sides, but all the sides are good.
They have the most amazing chocolate strawberries with romanoff sauce that I have ever tasted, but they are unfortunately seasonal and hard to catch. The cheesecake, 3-chocolate mousse cake, or fresh berries in a dark chocolate shell will always suffice in a pinch though. Long story short, I've been going there for years and will continue to go there for many more years, regardless of what any spoiled reviewers hem and haw about. Try it for yourself!
- Pros: Amazing steak, sides, salad bar, and service,
- Cons: The chocolate covered strawberries are SEASONAL! :(
STAY AWAY...SAVE YOUR MONEY
by TheBestCritic at Citysearch
The place is a tourist trap, plain and simply put. The steaks don't come near Pappas Brothers, Flemings, Capital Grill and etc. The salad bar is the only redeeming value. It's amazing the place does so well, except for the fact it plays off the TEXAS motif. Don't waste your time or money, you can get the same quality at Salt Grass for half the price. YES, I said Salt Grass, that Fertittatized chain that has a much personality as Jack in the Box.
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: PRICE, WAIT, QUALITY
adequate food; much is wrong
by cmk1126 at Citysearch
This place is too expensive in light of the quality of food. This place is oddly popular, making the no-reservations policy tremendously oppressive. And it's very "suburban" in the worst ways.
- Pros: food is OK
- Cons: several
Great Restaurant
by oldflyfisherman at Citysearch
This is the best restaurant that we have been to in Texas and the California Bay area. Yes, it will be a little more expensive, but it is of the highest Quality. It is hard to cook an almost 2 inch ribeye perfectly and they did two for us. The crew was great and quick to serve. I judge a restaurant's cleanliness by how clean their restrooms are. TTR was one of the best in the cleanliness, which was also confirmed by the cleanliness of the kitchen when we selected our steaks.
Unfortunately, it is obvious that some people in these reviews are being negative about this restaurant because they do not agree with the politics of the owner, who has a morning talk show in Houston. Don't listen to those reviews. If you a want a great, family oriented, steakhouse experience, go to Taste of Texas and find out for yourself.
- Pros: High quality food, fantastic service and very clean
- Cons: none
Lifetime customer, but will NEVER return
by csfh at Citysearch
If I were rating the food, I would give it 4 stars; however, my latest experience was so bad that Taste of Texas has lost a lifetime customer.
Website says "family-friendly," but it is NOT. If small children are a problem, this term should not be used. Apparently loud obnoxious salesmen are not a problem, because the table next to us carried on as much as they wanted.
- Pros: great steaks
- Cons: rude, not family friendly
The Best Angus Steaks in Texas!!
by GWBoren at Citysearch
The angus steaks were cooked great!! I ordered the 16oz. ribeye with Texas Au Gratin Potatoes and green beans. Quality Food and huge quantity. They also have an awesome salad bar, very fresh. I visited Houston Saturday and ate there. I returned Sunday before I left town. Manager and staff were very welcoming and made you feel at home. The service and food was Top Shelf both days...World Class Staff!!!
- Pros: Best Steaks, Potatos, Green Beans and SERVICE IS #1.
- Cons: That there's not one in every city!!!
TRULY AMAZING.....NOT
by lzlmt at Citysearch
Simple and to the point....a group of us went to celebrate my Nephew's Birthday...it was very early 5:30.pm...They told us we would be on 2 different tables...no problem....What they did not tell us the Tables would be far away from each other....!!! We left....walked over to Papasitos...we were seated in about 20 min....Had a GREAT time.
I will never return to Taste of Texas....
- Pros: free coke
- Cons: they do not care!
Overpriced for the quality but great Ambience, Certainly not a WINE BAR
by thebestcritic at Citysearch
Taste of Texas is below average based on the available steakhouses in Houston. Their strongest suit is the decor and overpriced wine list which carries some very nice labels, but at a premium price. Steaks are not on the level of Capital Grill, Pappas, Morton's, Ruth's, and etc. They rank somewhere between those mentioned and the Texas Land and Cattle, and Saltgrass quality. It is a great place to take foreign visitors for the ambience and "Texas" decor; during Christmas holidays they decorate beautifully. Side dishes are not comparible to the "upper end" steakhouses in Houston. A great salad bar with cheeses and wonderful breads. If you were to rank it on it's own without comparison to our "upper end" steakhouses, it would fair much better.
I can't belive TofT shows up as a wine bar. IT IS DEFINATELY NOT A WINE BAR!!!
- Pros: Ambience, Texas Decor, Salad Bar
- Cons: Overpriced, Outrageous wine prices, Long wait for tables

Taste of Texas DOES NOT accept reservations. Never has, never will. Mother's Day is the most popular day of the year to eat out.
