I've been going to Venus for about a year now and was so happy to find a decent, reasonable hair salon in the hood. Jill is my stylist and she always does a super job on my hair! The cut is always consistent and I know exactly what I'm getting. The funky vibe and decor equal a one of a kind haircut experience.

Pros: Reasonable, cool vibe, great haircut

So I am pretty new to Houston and had been searching around for awhile looking for a good place to get my haircut without spending too much, but at the same time getting a quality cut. I found this salon through city search and decided to check it out. Sharon Luckie is AMAZING. She definitely listened to what I wanted and gave me tons of great tips for how to help my baby fine hair. The whole atmosphere is so cool, and everyone there is super inviting. My haircut was only $40, but it was worth a lot more. Not only was the quality amazing, but Sharon was professional, yet completely personable. I never felt uncomfortable at any point....hell I'd go out for drinks with her, she's pretty badass. This place is amazing and I will definitely be going back for a very long time, and will be encouraging others to do the same.

This is the best salon in Houston, hands down! The place is great, its always a party in there and the staff are beyond friendly, especially Jill! Jill has been my stylist for about a year now, and she is absolutely magic! She knows exactly what to do with your color and really knows how to cut your hair to make it looks its best! She takes the time to hear you out about your hair problems, your daily routine, and really gives you the best cut and color for you! Go see her! :)

I have had many haircuts in my life and Susan Venus has great expertise. It is a comfortable, casual, and eclectic salon. They have been in business over 30 years in the Heights. Everyone is courteous and helpful. For style and price Venus Hair is the place to go !!!!!

So...I've lived all over the country. Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Houston... and I've tried quite literally at least 40 different hairstylists throughout my life. Some of them who have done hair for celebrities, for music videos...all that kind of stuff. And I'm quite serious when I say that I have NEVER found anyone who does hair better than Jill at Venus Hair. I don't even live in Houston anymore, but when I come back to visit my family, THAT'S when I get my hair done. Jill knows color, she knows what looks good on people, and she's got amazing range with color as well. I've seen some of the more "radical" stuff she tends to do with her OWN hair...and she does it really well. And then she gets someone like me, who goes "Um...I'm not ready for something really drastic, but I'd like to so something a little less drab than what I've got." And she aces it. Every time. And it's not like she even does the SAME thing with me every time either! But I've gotten to the point where I just sit back and go "I'm ready for a change. I trust you. Do what you will." And she just simply does an amazing job. She also has a way of CUTTING my hair that actually LASTS a really long time looking just as good as the day she cut it. And then there's the price, which is probably about 40% off of what I've paid elsewhere. All in all, Jill is seriously the best with hair that I have ever found. And I've looked! :)

A friend of our family told us about Venus Hair, the assortment of unique masques on the walls, and the mannequins decked out with massive hairdos and vibrant clothing. Each time you come in you are asked to take a seat on a big tan chair and before long you will find yourself spouting stories about your pets, and the crazy hair you had as a kid. That friend did a wonderful thing by telling us about Venus... Our hair and maybe even our lives have been changed forever and no doubt we'll be going to that thriving Heights hair salon for a long time to come.

Venus has cut and permed my hair for several years and does a great job. She is very careful with the perm process. She listens to what style I want and her experience is helpful for suggestions.

I can only say that I wish I had found this place sooner. Jill is really really good, knowledgeable, pacient, nice, dedicated and detail oriented. She gave me a whole new look, which I am absolutely loving, she completely understood what I was trying to achieve -basically, to not have to do anything to my hair but wash it and go-. She takes the time to explain everything that she'll be doing on you and gives you the space and confidence to feel comfortable, even when you're having a big makeover, like me. 5 stars for sure!

I know this place has exceptional reviews from everyone but I just didn't have that experience there. It is comfortable. The staff is very friendly. I just don't think the skill to color or cut is there which is why we go to a salon in the first place. My color looked good after leaving there for about a week and then it just went to an off, unwelcome shade. My cut was just horrible, I could have done it myself. I realize I did not give them the opportunity to fix it nor bring it to their attention so that is only fair of me to mention. I am not that hard to please though in the hair department and I was really surprised that I was so unhappy. I haven't had that bad of a cut since I was a child! Just thought it was only right to give fair warning out there that they are not perfect. Everyone should certainly choose for themselves but I just don't see what everyone else is talking about in these reviews.

JILL JOHNSON is the best stylist I have ever had. Since I have naturally curly hair, she cut my hair dry so that she could see how my hair wanted to respond. She is fabulous!! All I have to do is wash and fluff with my fingers and go....it's that simple. I love, love, love it. Wish I had found Venus Hair and JILL a long, long time ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks citysearch for giving us a voice, sherlie
