Stold my money
by xrd at Citysearch
Group of coworkers got together to say goodbye to coworker leaving the company. We ordered appetizers which were good.
I ordered Turkey and Coke paid $7 or 8 dollars-was just like drinking a coke. My coworker paid for the 2nd drink, and I paid for the 3rd. Total cost $21 to $25 dollars for 3 what they called premium drinks their reason for cost of it. I walked out of there as if I had drank 3 plain cokes. Went to my kids highschool football game -0- buzz. What a ripoff. Stold my money.
- Pros: Food is okay
- Cons: Service bad
Great Tex-Mex

Are you hungry? If so, order the parilla. We ordered this dish that served two persons, but three could have partook. First the chips: they are warm, crunchy with good hot sauce. The parilla comes on a sizzling platter. It has two split quail that are grilled, and shrimp that are wrapped in bacon. Of course, chicken and beef fajitas. There was so much to eat. The only downside was that we were a couple and they sat us in the back in a room full of families with noisy kids. Oh well, we should have told the manager and we didn't. Our bad! But, again - the food was delicious. Get there early on a Friday or there is a wait.

We have been going to Tony's for several years but never again. The quality of the food has gotten so bad it is not edible. The margaritas have never been up to par, we quit ordering them a long time ago. Service is horrible. On our last visit, I had to get up and find a waiter, who was then rude, waited a long time for the food and it arrived all at the same time - queso, tacos and enchilladas - and was cold - and had to get up and find my waiter for the check. To top it all off , the owner was wondering around aimlessly. I have never understood why the place is always crowded. Never again. We will not be back. Attention restaurant owners - there is alot of growth and new people in the area - please open new quality restaurants as I am tired of driving miles to find a decent meal.
- Cons: Bad food, bad service, too many tables crowded together, not worth the trip
long time customer

we have been going to Tonys for years. It has declined over the last 1-2 years.
The food ok and the service can be real bad at times.
They still have, I feel, the best green sauce on the planet.
I sure hope they clean up their act or I may not go there anymore.
bad food, excellent margaritas
by joeyrr71 at Citysearch
food is bad, margaritas are the best thing they serve there. I went there for months and spend like 60 dollars on margaritas and food i didn't really eat, I was there mainly for the margaritas, I heard people making gay jokes and i didn't like that, i told my friends not to go either, on fridays gay people made good money for the owner, until the owner apoligizes to gay people we wont go there not even for the excellent margaritas. the place is begining to have that poor getto clientele.
- Pros: goo margaritas
- Cons: nasty food, not a gay friendly retaurant
REALLY???

I live not too far from here, and I eat out A LOT. I do LOVE mexican food, and so I thought I'd try this place. It's always packed and I read great reviews about the place. However, after dining there, I absolutely dont understand the hype about this place. The queso was about as plain as anything else I've tried. The salsa was simple, nothing spectacular. I just do not get it?? The food was way average! I would almost rather eat at Casa Ole..NOT KIDDING! The maragaritas weren't bad. oh well....
- Pros: Its popular...for some reason
- Cons: AVERAGE food
Blindingly average, but you sure wouldn't know it by the crammed parking lot....

I'm a transplant to Houston, and was intrigued by this place, after driving by and reading the enthusiastic reviews posted about it here. I love good Mexican, and I know my stuff. SHOCKED at how enamored people are with it. Big deal, guys. Service was OK, food was OK, didn't have drinks (I know, I know), but definitely not a 5 star rating. From my recollection, to the other reviewer comments, it's not "oilcloth" it's called plastic, and no homemade tortillas = no good rating from this dude. Wake up people.
We have been going to Tony's for over 12 years and think it is great!

We have enjoyed Tony's for many years, sometimes dining there twice a week. They have very good food for a moderately priced family mexican restaurant. My husband thinks the cheese enchiladas are the best in town. Beware---the margaritas are very strong! Friday nights used to be a party scene but it has cleaned up a lot in the last year much to our delight. We have several favorite waiters that we always request and they take extrememly good care of us by providing excellent service. The restaurant is always packed so they must be doing something right!!!
- Pros: Quality Service, Friendly Staff
- Cons: Wait time at peak hours
Be wary of any business that uses the labels family and american
by jj77019 at Citysearch
Always went there with a large group of friends spent LOTS o money with this group. Always a party atmosphere, drinks are served promptly and quickly. Chips and salsa are awesome. However their entrees leave much to be desired. I ordered fajitas that were not - it was stewed beef sauteed with onions. Definitely have had better. I was expecting slices of marinated steak. The fish tacos while good but they were quite stingy with the portions. Ordered the pork chops and got two thin chops - for 13 bucks I expected a chop not a breakfast slice. In spite of all this I continued to go with friends for camraderie and atmosphere.
However, I will not be back. The owners seem to be on an odd religious streak and frankly I am tired of these "family" restaurants that really aren't. Businesses seem to think that by adding "family" and or "american" to the marquee they can dupe suspecting or unsuspecting folks to patronize them cuz they present themselves as paragons of virtue and morals while copiusly pushing alcohol and getting their customers licquored up.
They seem to be using that as some sort of code for "we don't like the gayz." They obviously are not realizing who patronize the restarant and pay the bills especially on the weekends. This type of discrimination is insulting just like the small portions, the pushy alcohol service (they actually have one woman that goes table to table making sure you never have an empty glass). The final straw for me was have my tip amount changed the last time I was there.
A while back some friends recommended that we boycott the restaurant and I did not - had no reason to do so. Now that I know where the owner spends money and after looking back at the crappy service and food I've had there in the past. I don't recommend this restaurant and will not return.
- Pros: great atmosphere, fun with friends
- Cons: religious zealots own the place
Sub-par
by smb0276 at Citysearch
I recently moved to this part of town and was excited about having a good mexican food restaurant close. I was excited to go to Tony's because several people had recommended it, but I was really disappointed. The food was just...sub-par. We went on a friday night and the wait was thirty minutes and the bar was packed. The atmosphere was definitely lively, but you couldn't really move. I would be ok with that if the food was good. But that was not the case. I'm not even sure I want to give this place a second chance.
