A suprising place in side the loop

Who would have thought you can buy chickens, rabbits and other farm animals well within site of the Houston Skyline on washington avenue. They also carry a great line of vegtables starter plants and fruit trees. Friendly staff and overall great customer experience.

• Pros: selection, knowledgeable staff
• Cons: parking is tight

Farm animals, exotic herbs, gourmet dog food and heirloom vegetables are just a few treasures to be found here.

Country Meets the City

The sleepy country store sells live chickens, roosters, geese, baby ducks and a whole lot of bunnies, not to mention organic gardening supplies and antiques.

How Does Your Garden Grow?
The herb garden grows a variety of mints in flavors like chocolate, grapefruit and pineapple. Fruit trees as well as unusual vegetables can be found here too. In March, Wabash carried more than 100 kinds of tomatoes. The store's gardening expert Jim Sheridan says customers range "from the Mexican lady wanting a fresh chicken to cook chicken de pollo to the River Oaks socialite who thinks it would be nice to have peacocks running around the azaelias."
