Ceviche
by coog78 at Citysearch
This is a really good spot for cheap eats. The interior is dated and part of the charm. Most plates are really good, but the emphasis here is on seafood. I get the ceviche every time I come here. It's done really well and inexpensive. Overall, you shouldn't expect to spend much to leave you completely full. Good Central American food at Central America prices. Que bueno!
Agreeable young owners create a menu that's light on the calories and the pocketbook.

The Scene
This authentic Mexican cafe is a newcomer to the large base of inner-loop Mexican food choices. What makes El Pueblito different? "We developed healthy recipes so you don't have to exercise so much," says owner Eduardo Lopez. The bright pink interior decorated with pinatas is charming, while the snug patio with a wagon-wheel fence has a real Mexico feel.
The Food
The extremely fresh Guatemalan-Tex-Mex menu features house-made tortillas and never-greasy chips, along with well-executed combination plates. The San Felipe plate offers a marinated chicken breast served with fried plantains, sour cream, rice, beans and pico de gallo. The pollo maya is a tender, spice-crusted breast of chicken and is served with grilled string beans and juicy corn. Grilled snapper is accompanied by unique cilantro-spiked fruit relish (also served as a table salsa) made with fresh, sweet pineapple. Besides soft tacos and burritos, it also serves a hearty breakfast.
Neighborhood Secret
by mjstern101 at Citysearch
Don't drive too fast down Richmond or else you'll miss this fantastic neighboorhood secret. El Pueblito is a great alternative for someone wanting Latin flair but is tired of Tex-Mex.
The Mango Margarita was potent but didn't have the mango flavor I was hoping for. Other notable points: the dining room is cozy yet a bit frantic, the salsa's are delicious, and the Hot & Crazy was wonderful (Shrimp and Scallop dish...yum!)
Overall a must see adventure in Houston's Montrose area.
- Pros: Variety of Menu, Delicious Salsas, Great Value
- Cons: A bit noisy
