I was cool when it opened after the "accidental fire" burning of Heaven, but over time it has gotten old. It needs new life, maybe some minor things but something new to make it exciting again. It still is one of the best Dance Clubs in Houston though. Not a place I go often but fun to take my hags too from out of town.

Pros: The CO2!

Cons: Drinks are a little high!

Southbeach is so played out now. It was once a place to be but like anything else it never changed with the times. House music is dead, will they ever get it. not all g a y s want to hear that stuff all the time. Im so glad Blur is down the street. Blur plays all the current music like on the hip-hop station and pop station, I love sunday cause they play latin and hip-hop. Sundays at southbeach is not good anymore, they should just close it down or burn it down like they did to heavens! Yes Im that old to remember Heavens.

Pros: restrooms are clean

Cons: no one is there on fridays

Whatever happened to music for all of age drinkers where at anytime you could go out and hear a variety of music from 70's rock-n-roll to the newest hip-hop or dance music. Southbeach is only a place to go if you want to get drunk or high and just realy don't care about the music. It's always the same ole tired trance music, or some kinda of house music that you don't recognize. If you would like to cool off though, in the middle of the night, then just stand in the middle of the dance floor as they release a cool mist over the dance floor and anyone dancing on it. Southbeach has a WONDERFUL lighting, sound, and video system, I just think that a place like this should cater to people of all ages, after all it's normally the older people that have the money and will spend it.

Pros: Audio/Video/Lighting/Dance Floor

Cons: No variety of music

Cons: just not fun anymore

I moved to Houston from Chicago 3 months ago. By now I am getting a little homesick for the Chicago nightlife of North Halsted and Rush Street. I went online and pulled up what appeared to be the most "happening" club in the Montrose area. . . South Beach. I was plesantly surprised by the decor, the crowd ( small as it was), and the music was exactly what I needed to hear. What shock to find is the level of ruddness by all of the staff (that we encountered). It started with the cashier at the door who, after we mentioned his less than savory attitude, informed us that if we didn't like his attitude now he could "kick us out " if it got any worse. This was before we even entered the venue. When we sat down at the bar, the manager just happened to be walking the floor. When I explained to him about our episode at the door his comment was that the cashier had a cold???? I still don't know what that has to do with the price of tea in China. Nonetheless, we went on and had a very nice evening( what was left of it). At 3:45am in this club that was supposed to be open until 5am, we were informed that the club would be closing for the evening by someone walking the floor with a microphone. When we mentioned the time he abruptly said ( on the mic by the way) "Just Go!" and walked into the DJ booth. As I said earlier I've only been in Houston for 3 months and if everyone was as rude, arrogant, and unfriendly as these people, I would not have moved. It really is a top notch club, they just need a staff adjustment. This is a customer service industry. Hello.

Pros: Great Ambience

Cons: Very Poor Customer Service

I visited Southbeach new years eve, a year ago and found the club to be surprisingly progressive. The music was techno and pumping. The cheap drinks were good. I left feeling I wanted to return upon my next visit to Houston. Well, this time was another story. I arrived about 11:30PM on Saturday, 9/8 and was strapped with a wristband (before entering). I suppose this was to show that I was of age, although no one checked my ID. I proceeded to walk in only to be stopped by a nasty drag queen. I wasn't aware that there was a cover charge since I was already strapped with a wristband. (Wouldn't it make sense to put that on the patron after the cover charge was paid? it was like putting the cart before the horse). She/he was very unpleasant and made me feel foolish as though I were purposely trying to get in without paying. I didn't come to Houston to be bullied by a drag queen. I had a pocket full of cash to spend at this place but thanks to her/him, it was spent elsewhere. I won't be back!

Pros: great techno music

Cons: NASTY DRAG QUEEN AT THE DOOR

I was always told to check out South Beach and now having done so I can defiantly say I will return time and time again. Approaching the building you see towering Canary Palms which make you feel like you are in Miami’s South Beach. I felt like a VIP from the moment I dropped my car off in valet. Though the line looked scary (a good sign of a great club) it moved quickly. The first bar, I assume they call it the Martini Bar, was beautiful and made me feel like I was in a posh New York lounge. They had a glass chiller that ran the length of the granite bar which over looked a fine selection of premium liquors. It wasn’t until after my first drink I realized they had a even large part of the club through a set of red velvet curtains. This side of the club was the dance floor and more bars. Wow is all I can say! The most amazing lights, sound, laser light show and dancing I have ever had. They even had this ice jet system that blasts the dance floor with a cold fog cooling everyone down. This is a amazing place and I will be back.

Pros: Ambience, Valet, and drinks

Cons: That the night had to end

I went with my friend to check it out and it was a very interesting place. I belive in giving each place a try just to say I have been there. I actually liked it and think it was an interesting experince. The line is long to get in but you have to remember it is one of few after hours clubs. Im not a fan of places that charge covercharges but since this is a club it is accepted, its not just a bar but also a dance club. As you walk in you will have to sign an agreement not to drink if you are underage and also pay the covercharge. The large woman (wink) there is really nice but also keeps out anyone that looks like trouble makers. If you are a police officer you get free entrance with proper police ID. Once inside you see the bar with the frozen bar top runing all thru the bar. There are chairs and booths to sit at, if you get there early you might get one. The dance floor is huge and it is very crowded. The male dancers are funny and defenetly something to look at even if you dont want to. This is defenetly a place that has a lot of dancing and good for straight and not. One thing I didnt like was the barthrooms were really dirty and out of control.

Pros: Dancing

Cons: Dirty bathrooms

WELL IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A NIGHTCLUB ON A SATURDAY NIGHT, THEN TRY TO AVOID SOUTH BEACH. THIS PLACE IS TOO CROWED FOR DANCING AFTER 11:30P AND A FEW OTHER THINGS IS THE BARTENDER SERVICE IS SLOWER THAN MOST PLACES BECAUSE OF THE OVER CROWEDNESS. I HAVE WAITED 9 MIN ON ONE BARTENDER FOR A CHEAP DRINK. BUT BECAUSE THEY WERE SO CROWDED THE SERVICE IS SLOW, UNLESS YOU KNOW THE BARTEDER, YOU WONT GET FAST OR AVERAGE SERVICE. IF YOU LIKE POP MUSIC OR RAP DANCE REMIXES THEN SOUTH BEACH IS NOT FOR YOU. THEY PLAY TECHNO ALL NIGHT. THE DANCING BOXES WHICH ARE THE BOXES YOU CAN DANCE ON IS WAY TOO CROWDED TO DANCE ON. THE LAST TIME I WAS THERE, I SAW SOMEONE NEARLY FALL OFF THE BOXES DUE TO CROWDED. THAT IS NOT SAFE DANCING ON IF THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE DANCING ON IT. THE BATHROOMS ARE TOO SMALL FOR A BIG PLACE. THE COVER CHARGE IS ALWAYS RISING, IT WAS $7 IN MARCH 06 NOW ITS $9 IN SEPT. AND ABOUT ONCE-A-MONTH THEY CAHRGE $20 TO GET IN THE CLUB WHEN THE REGULAR DJ IS NOT THERE. THIS IS JUST OUTRAGEUOUSLY AWFUL PLACE FOR A COVER CHARGE. PAY $9 TO BUY MORE ALCOHOL AND DANCE TO TECHNO MUSIC. THE BARTENDER SERVICE IS TOO SLOW ITS TOO CROWDED TO DANCE SAFELY. THE COVER CHARGE IS TOO EXPENSIVE. VALET PARKING IS TOO SLOW TO GET THE CARS BACK TO CUSTOMERS THE OWNER IS TOTALY MEAN TO CUSTOMERS.

Pros: POPULAR BECAUSE CROWDED

Cons: VALET PARKING, DANCING, BARTENDERS

This club is a lot of fun if you are really into techno/trance music. The volume is WAY too loud, and my ears were ringing for more than 15 hours after we left the club. The dry ice jets are really nice, though, because with all the people in such a small place, it gets stuffy. The building is way too small for the crowd it attracts, and I am just about certain the amount of patrons exceeds fire code. It gets very hard to move around with so many people. The line to get in is long, but moves pretty quickly. The cover charge is over rated, but if you get in before 11pm, there is no cover. Bar service is above average. Even though it might take a little longer to get waited on, the bartenders are very friendly once they get to you. The drinks are ridiculously expensive. It wasn't what I thought it would be for my first experience, but after all, this is Houston and there is something out there for everyone. I don't even remember them announcing Last Call, and shortly after 2am someone came up and snatched our drinks out of our hands. There are a lot of hot guys in there, but they seem to be very stuck up and ostentatious. Definitely a meat fest going on in there, and it's survival of the fittest. This is definitely not my club of choice. Overall the experience was average. Nothing about the club really WOW!-ed me.

Pros: Quick moving line, Good music, friendly bartenders

Cons: Drink prices, music volume, too crowded
