Lots of sizzle but no steak.

by MrHealthy at Citysearch

First and last time customer. I was led here by all the great reviews this restaurant has received. I tried the gyro with french fries. Bad choice. I had to throw away most of it because it was awful. The meat was dry and the fries were soggy and tasted like burnt oil. I added some of the sauce that came with the gyro to give it some flavor, but it was in vain. I felt sick for two days after eating this food. I guess some of the other plates might be good, but I'll never know because I don't plan to return. I have a feeling the owner writes or pays people to write some of the great reviews about the gyros to fool us into coming to this restaurant. Save your $ and dine elsewhere. Peace out!

  • Pros: No Pros
  • Cons: Gyros and Fries are not good.

Great food, best gyro in Houston! Love the outdoor seating; parking has improved but worth the hassle!

Huge plates, great location

by coog78 at Citysearch

Thankfully, they expanded the parking lot, cutting down on the walk from your vehicle to the restaurant. The plates here are huge, a couple could easily split one. The gyros are awesome and authentic. Great neighborhood institution in Montrose.

Three cheers for Niko Nikos!

by caslily at Citysearch

Niko Niko's is the place I bring visitors, where I go for comfort food, and has my favorite patio. The service is always friendly and I enjoy the casual atmosphere. Their salads are amazing, as is their calamari with feta cheese. Three cheers for Niko Nikos!

decent but over-priced Greek fare

by cmk1126 at Citysearch

The salads are good, but you pay through the nose. You can finally park here, which is charming. My wife is nuts about this place. My wife also eats Lucky Charms for dinner sometimes. I guess you'll have to make up your own mind regarding whom to believe.

OVERPRICE PLASTIC WEAR

by HoustonSweetGirl at Citysearch

I went to Niko Niko?s last night and spent $15 on rolled cabbage. I paid $15 for ground beef mixed with rice rolled in a cabbage. Once again, I paid $15 for a mixture of GROUND BEEF ANS RICE. I should add that I ate it on plastic wear!!!

THIS RESTAURANT IS OVER PRICE. FOR $15 A PLATE A EXPECT MORE THAN PLASTIC WEAR AND SERVE YOUR OWN DRINK SERVICE.

The food was alright but I could have eaten better for $15 or cooked it at home.

  • Pros: Montrose Area

Caution: May be arrested while dining here!

by LeCielEstRouge at Citysearch

My husband is from Greece, and mentioned to the manager that one of their dishes is not authentic since it was made with beef and not lamb, and the manager literally tells him that if he wants that entree with lamb then he needs to go back to Greece!! How rude is that?!?!?! After that comment he said he would never eat here again because of the rude service and lack of authenticity and the manager tells him that if he doesn't leave then she will call the cops. I swear, he never said a harsh word to her and she threatened to have him arrested. Haha. Needless to say we won't be going back.

Great customer service and food!

by cloverfield74 at Citysearch

Niko Niko's is a great joint. Great food and great service. I've been in many times and I've never left disappointed. The portions are big here and although prices recently went up about 5%, it is still definitely worth it. The gyro meat is tender, moist, and has the perfect hint of spices. Other plates such as the cheese-steaks, lamb kebob, and chicken salads are amazing as well.

The most notable thing, in my opinion that puts this place on the map is the service. Customer service here is top-notch, especially considering how busy the restaurant can be. The counter-staff is extremely friendly and very attentive. They handle hundreds of customers a day with precision and excellent skill. On top of that they are very knowledgeable about their product.

My hat is off to you guys! Keep the good food and service coming!

Awesome gyros!!

by megtheve4 at Citysearch

Amazing greek salad.. lots of feta. Gyro sandwich is delicious and not greasy. They also have really good french fries and baklava. Sometimes it can be busy with long lines but it's well worth it. They added more seating room and parking, and despite the large crowds that can sometimes roll in around 6 pm, they are very nice and the service is good. This place is my favorite place to eat in Houston, hands-down!

  • Pros: Great food and service at a reasonable price
  • Cons: Busy and crowded at times

A Greek and American Delight

by nineeightylunchclub at Citysearch

Improved parking! Compared to prior customer's postings, Niko Niko's has improved their parking situation. The new outdoor seating is really nice, and on a day like ours it made for a very enjoyable outdoor meal for the lunch club. Portions were very generous and this was an overall "good" value. Perhaps even, a great value. The kitchen pushes out quality food and fast with excellent technical skill. Very consistent throughout our lunch club's meals. This is a very casual place and the plates and utensils match the (cheap food) theme with all disposable plastic wares (seemingly from Sam's Club). The disposable wares (are they earth friendly?) seemed out of place while enjoying the new outdoor patio.

Highlights:

The Soutzoukakia (Greek meatballs in tomato sauce) was outstanding. We were warned this dish would take extra time to prepare (at least 20 minutes). It is worth the wait and recommended for all to try if you can spare the extra time. Patio Seating (music, lights, fans ). Greek Passion Tea. Quality Food - Gyro, Feta/Spices, Potato Wedge Fries, etc. Restrooms were Clean.

Lowlights:

The Greek salad was rather underwhelming. Although the feta and spices were good, the ice berg lettuce seemed rather flat (regular "cheap" fare). Potential Parking Problem - Rainy weather could create a mud pit in the newly opened parking lot. Long Lines, but move quickly - Get there early for lunch! Gyro Plate (not the same Greek effect as the Gyro sandwich). Traffic (What can you do?). The Chicken Greek Salad meal - overloaded with dressing and stemmed iceberg on the cheap side. Beverage Station - location prior to ordering food causes confusion amongst patrons in line.
