Good and Bad...
by iheart2eat at Citysearch
If you want to be original, don't go here for your anniversary! This place was packed with other couples celebrating their anniversary on the same day as mine and my husband's.
On another note, the food was great, and we had three servers tending to our needs. They were very nice and offered to take pictures in different areas of the restaurant for us. If you want to have a quiet evening, request a table on the second floor. The lower floor is much more crowded and is where the bar is located, thus a louder area. It is pretty expensive... expect slightly small portions, and to pay no less than $100/couple. The food has big flavor though.
- Pros: Excellent service, and peaceful scenery
- Cons: Prices are a bit high
great food but way too expensive!

mark's is a nice place,t he owner a fab person. however this place is not recomended for the common man/woman. ther service wonderful the food great. however if you are the average houstonian, you will have to save up for a year to be able to dine here one night with spouse and 2 friends. they do have a fantastic wine list. <sigh.................>
- Pros: great service, wine list food
- Cons: too Expensive for first date-go for aniversaries, birthday dinners for turning 30 40 50
Great food & Romantic place
by sckaty77449 at Citysearch
I love this restaurant because I had a most romantic dinner here. Yes, I've got engaged at Mark's on 8/20/06. :-) Everything was great....food, dessert, drinks.....
Consistency is very key
by lilygal at Citysearch
I am a frequent visitor of Mark's and the service and food has been consistent at all times. Not to mention, they are both great. Though it's considered a fine-dining establishment, I don't find it stuffy like many other restaurants. I suggest taking advantage of the power lunches. The portions are about the same, but the price is less expensive. I could dine simply on a $6 or $7 bowl of bisque and be stuffed.
- Pros: food, staff
Watch out for those specials
by forzaferrari at Citysearch
A terrific Houston gem in all respects. But those who are into that 'sort of thing',
don't you be bashful about politely asking for the sticker on their specials, or you will end up paying princely sums. $62 for a seafood platter (whoa!), $42 for a veal chop -- enough to buy 2 more equally satisfying entrees from the regular menu with published prices. Now go and have yourself a great time, and don't forget to splurge on one of Mark's most yummy desserts.
A bit overhyped

I was expecting some really good food here as this place is rated the top place in Zagats.. it was really quite a disapointment. The food was quite average and the place was crowded and very loud. The service was very good though. My waiter was very knowledgeable.
- Pros: good service
- Cons: overpriced, average food, crowded & loud
Great Restaurant, but.......
by a_better_critic at Citysearch
This is a great restaurant. Mark Cox has done an outstanding job of keeping this place feel fresh, new, and clean. The food is great, the decor is inviting, the service is good. BUT.... the prices are outrageous!!! We recently rented one of the private areas and paid a whopping $75./person for a four course meal!!! The food was great, but we had to question the value for the price. The tuna is not sushi grade -- it is a color added imitation for sushi grade tuna.
- Pros: Clean, Good Food, Wine List
- Cons: Value, Portion Size, Price
Good Food
by mismoboy at Citysearch
This is a very romantic place for couples. My girlfriend took me here for my birthday and it was very nice. The service is excellent and the dessert is great. If you like grill seafood and red meat then this is the place for you.
- Pros: Parking, Good food
- Cons: Wine List, Expensive
dine with class
by t12ubeauty at Citysearch
The food, dessert, and wine were all tasty. Our 2 servers were very knowledgable and friendly, and the food came out in a timely manner. Although the restaurant decor is meant to create a romantic atmosphere, i think it is a bit too busy and noisy to be romantic. overall, i'd say this is a really good restaurant.
One of Houston's best
