La Mexicana Restaurant
It's the little restaurant that grew and grew; it opened more than 30 years ago and now sprawls every which way.

The service is average, and the food is very good! I always order the fidello and it is a very good portion, and it is very tasty! They have a nice outside area as well. The breakfast is very good as well.
- Pros: VERY good food
- Cons: Parking!!!

La Mexicana could be a real Mexican place, but it is not... (Spaniard Bull fighter posters in the restroom?).
The food is ok, not great.
Pros: Location, you get to buy Mexican candy if you want.
Cons: food is just ok, not great
Very rude and arrogant owners.

This place is sooo bad. I know good food and good service. I also, unfortunately, know bad. The cashier is very rude, and they seem to rest upon their reputation. I think the grand-daughter of the place is the one who told me I was lucky to enjoy their cousine. I will never be back. Never.

Very clean, festive, attentive service, large portions of great Mexican food at a very good price. I have seen this place frequented by working class Mexican families to nostalgic Mexican millionaires. Everything from chicharonnes to chile relleno. Really good food and nice folks.
- Pros: Great food!
- Cons: Parking --- everyone knows its good!
Not what it used to be

I've been going to La Mexicana for over 10 years and the food was always delcious and the staff always very gracious. However the last 2 times has made me want to avoid this place. It saddens me because I remember the days I would go with my family and have such a wonderful time. The fajita meat, especially for the tacos is awful, there was more fat and actually meat! I asked the waiter to change it for other tacos and he grunted something and came back with even greasier.
- Pros: ambience and parking is easy
- Cons: service! food not what it used to be
The best chicken tortilla soup I've ever had

I visit La Mexicana once or twice a month just to have their chicken tortilla soup. It's the best I have ever had. The guacamole is also excellent. The bartender that is always there isn't very friendly, but the food more than compensates for that.
- Pros: outdoor seating with heaters for cold days
- Cons: parking is horrible, busy on the weekends

It is almost impossible to believe that in a town with so many fantastic Mexican food restaurants that La Mexicana is still even in business. This was possibly the most disgusting Mexican food I have ever had the displeasure of encountering. I agree with the other reviewers who commented on the blandness of the food. Taco Cabana and frozen Mexican TV dinners have this place beat. Overpriced food and surly wait staff don't help matters either. Yuck!
- Pros: Great Location
- Cons: Unresponsive and unfriendly wait staff, horrible food

In Short
Breakfast here is a Montrose tradition, and a great bakery keeps the cross-cultural clientele happy at this Mexican favorite. Try the robust huevos rancheros or the migas. The taco de guisado de puerco, a handmade flour tortilla with cubes of pork in red sauce, is fork-tender. Even better: Poached chicken breast meat (in tacos or fresh chicken soup). Spike anything with the vibrant tomatillo sauce.
Best mexican breakfast, good service

It serves a great breakfast. The totillas are home made - a big plus - the barbacoa is excellent. The refried beans are to die for - the chili con queso - it very good. The price is high but well worth the price for breakfast. Lunch and Dinner prices are too high. The atmosphere is good - the waiters are okay. This is a family run establishment and I find that if you have a problem or complaint it gets handle very quickly. I do recommend for breakfast.
- Pros: good food, good staff, good atmosphere
- Cons: Prices are too high

I am a frequent guest so it may be unfair for me to give you a review. I truly love this place. There are a lot of places out there, e.g. Berryhills, Taco Milagro (which is a nice place to go on a Thursday because of their Patio), etc . . . . With maybe better decor and even ambiance for the yuppie crowd . . . but the food here is excellent. The jumbo burrito is two meals in one and they have various a la carte items that are wonderful and inexpensive! The margaritas are ok, nothing spectacular but when you combine them with great food you can't go wrong! I love their Huevos Rancheros con Fajitas for breakfast as well. Try their Charro beans, they are spicy and good! I am not Hispanic but most of my friends are and each one of them LOVE THIS PLACE. My only regret is that I have taken past girlfriends here and I sometimes run into them because even though they don't want anything more to do with me . . .they can't leave La Mexicana!!!!!
- Pros: Food, Friendly Service, nice patio (when you can find space on it)
- Cons: none
