My Favorite Bookstore
by skeptical
What a joy to find a bookstore owned and staffed by knowledgable book lovers. Brazos Bookstore is the place in Houston to meet famous authors and discuss fine books. The New York Times called Brazos "Houston's premier literary marketplace - a Mecca for touring authors since 1974." And the surroundings are so comfortable - an island of serenity in a chaotic world. For these reasons and more, Brazos is my favorite bookstore.
This unique literary landmark has Houston's finest selection of contemporary poetry and novels, and a knockout reading series.

In Short
The simple, gallery-like digs with gray carpet and white walls, offer lots of sunlight for title browsing and a couple of wooden rockers for page perusing, but don't expect coffee or croissants. Although it specializes in texts on art, photography and history, there's a collection of books on every other erudite humanities subject. This is the intellectual bibliophile's bookstore and has been since 1974.

A Houston treasure. The readings, the culture, the knowledge and the passion make visiting and buying a unique experience.
A real bookstore

Looking for a good book? Looking for a bookseller who knows the subject matter, the title and the author (personally)? Brazos Book Store is the best book store in the city. If you want an expensive cup of coffee, or a plastic wrapped danish, or to read Teen Vogue magazine, go to some big chain. If you need a recommendation or a specific literary title, have an interest in the humanities, or want to hear an internationally acclaimed author read his/her work, go see Carl at Brazos.
- Pros: selection, customer service, reading series
- Cons: Limited parking
