Rude Staff
by soleares at Citysearch
I went there with a reference of my friend, but I was very disappointed. The bar staff neglected me and they were very rude to me. They also have a very ridiculous rule "$10 minimum for credit card charges"
The reason I went there was because I had a bad night and wanted to relax a little bit. However, that night became a nightmare with the Big Easy Social&Pleasure Club...
I will never go there again.
So, NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL!!!!!
- Pros: None
- Cons: Rude staff, expensive, very dirty

- Pros: great bands live music
- Cons: trouble finding the entrance, just push the door simple
Big Easy Social & Pleasure Club
by nananisey at Citysearch
We love the music and dance floor, always great music but I think most patrons would be willing to pay $10 to get in rather than $5 if they would replace the barstools and clean the place up a bit. Last visit my wooden barstool had only 1/2 a seat. The others were covered with filthy cloth so we had to stand the whole night or get our clothes dirty. I understand from my grown children that this is part of the atmosphere but I think they've carried dirty a little far!!
- Pros: Great music
- Cons: Horribly dirty
Rudest Bar Staff, Grumpy Owner
by amoiralove at Citysearch
I love the blues. The live music that played was wonderful and professional. No garage band here. However, the male help is less than desirable. I noticed how the owner of the bar would sit in the corner and when someone took his seat (you couldn't tell anyone was sitting there or using that chair, as it was off in the corner), he acted as if you stole his wife. Though he wasn't mean to me (thank gawd)- the only male bartender with the black 80's flock of seagull haircut was. I stood there as he helped everyone but me. He very non-appologetically gave me the drink free though I that wasn't what I wanted- I just wanted to be served in the order of the cue-up. You could tell he couldn't a smile and to talk to him he wouldn't even look at you until I had to say, "Do I have to speak up?( to get served here?)" three times. I wasn't even being obnoxious, just asking a matter of fact question. So he said, "I'm just making sure my best client gets a drink". Then the client himself, an obvious alcoholic man in his 90's, turned to me and said, "And I tip like a Mo' Fo'". The free drink sucked and I'm sure if I weren't standing there watching he would have put mucus in it. The blonde waitress was very kind and attentive. She and the music were the only positive things about the place. Like the previous reviewer, I too will be letting others know about my experience at this bar. With all the places in Houston to choose from that will go out of their way to make you feel good, why go here?
- Pros: Excellent Blues Band
- Cons: the male bartender and male owner. Mr. Rude and Mr. Grumpy
Not good
by singasongakb at Citysearch
I brought a funloving good group of people in, and we were insulted by the owner Tom.
We are all in the service industry and love to tip well etc.
He was not happy about where we were dancing in a practically empty club.
He insulted me and my friends many times over while getting physical. This really hurts because the Big Easy used to be one of my favorite places, and I have gone there for years. I never have had a problem with Tom and I always really liked him.
Don't understand why this happened, but I will NEVER be back- and I will be sure to share my experience with anyone I can.
- Pros: bartenders were nice/music is great
- Cons: psycho owner
This is Dr Leland's Favorite (and mine) place for the BLUES!
by macvsog_5thsfg at Citysearch
Top of the Top! Tom always does a great job keeping it BLUE. The best of the best in musicians come there regularly Allan Haynes,Texas Johnny Brown,Guitar Shorty,John Mcvey, to name a few. Safe location,parking,$5.00 on weekends (worth twice), drinks well priced.(and mixed). You will not be disappointed there ever. This place is always written up in the Houston Music News (best and oldest music publication in Houston!!
- Pros: Best BLUES in TEXAS.
- Cons: I cant find any here!
Rice Village blues bar houses the soul of Houston's blues past and present.

In Short
Weathered picnic benches and a bike rack fill in the front yard of this virtual treasure trove of blues. Minus the slight nod to New Orleans in name, the spirit of the bar remains distinctly Houstonian. Pictures of blues legends hang among knickknacks footnoting local music lore. On stage, real-life blues legends like Luther and the Healers serenade the boot scootin,' blues-loving crowd.
Good place to play

For all the fussing about parking...remember it's FREE. The staff tries hard to keep trouble to a minimum, you WILL be ejected if you act like a jerk. And there's few places in town that are as open and un-cliqueish as this one. Handicapped accessible and that is a plus for me. Only downside is that they keep building Yuppie Housing all around. (Condos in former parking area.)
- Pros: reasonable prices, personable staff, great music
- Cons: , smoky, like a bar!!
Mullets Galore
by melissa1998 at Citysearch
The Big Easy rocks. What other place are you guaranteed to see a mullet and some gold lame all in the same night? It's one of my favorite bars in H-town.
- Pros: Good music, Pool table, Diverse
- Cons: Poor parking, Bathrooms
grunge with style
by tallestredhead_n_houston at Citysearch
We thought that we were in the "wrong place" when we showed up there after a (Formal) wedding but everyone acted like no big deal, come as you are. We had a great time, in spite of the cracked vinyl seating which snagged that horrible dress! Drinks were cheap and the MUSIC was RICK LEE...need I say more?
- Pros: relaxed atmosphere, great music, regulars were nice
- Cons: small, smoky, poor seating
