Decent buffet for the price
by sr123
I am from out of state and went to Shiva recently for the lunch buffet based on reviews I read in this site. I have to say that the food here is average - nothing out of the ordinary. I liked the bread they served but was disappointed that there were no appetizers in the buffet. If you are in the area, i think for the price the lunch buffet is decent
- Pros: Good bread and deserts
- Cons: No appetizer in lunch buffet
Great Lunch Buffet & pleasant atmosphere for dinner
by Indian Food Lover
Good food, quick service, great place to go for lunch or dinner. Melodious Indian music makes me want to dance with it.
Must try their food . Its a treat I promise
Tip for new customers ;
In the evenings : Park anywhere and walk around Rice Village. Many stores to explore and lots of eateries.
- Pros: Easy access and pleasant atmosphere
- Cons: None
good food and great ambience
by joelikestoeat
Always loved Shiva's food and ambience. Have been a frequent eater at both the Rice Village and Sugar land location. I work in the Medical Center area, but live in the suburbs. Recently we had guests over from Canada and I took them to Shiva's Sugar land location. Everyone enjoyed the food, specially the Rogan Ghosh and Ghosh Shahi Korma.
I wanted to say that the comment posted about Shiva being small and comparing the Mantra's to other restaurants only tells any customer how desperate the individual is to promote Mantra. It is very sad to see this kind of tactics.
In my experience Shiva offers good food, great ambience and friendly pleasant atmosphere.
- Pros: delicious food and great service
- Cons: none
O.K Food
by Patel Family
We love to eat out. The food was just not tasty (too blend ) & the atmosphere was very dull. Anytime we pay $100 for 4-5 people we expect good food & great ambience. The service is a usual as any other indian restaurant. Finally we have indian restaurants in Sugarland. I guess we were comparing Shiva to the other new indian restaurant ( Mantra of Sugarland not Katy ). Well there was no comparison. Mantra in sugarland is the best indian Restaurant our family have been too as we love there decor, ambience & food. We had zero problem of paying $100 for4-5 people. We wish the indian restaurants in Houston can at least spend some money in Interior & then charge us accordingly. Look at India's, Bombay Brasserie, gourmet India it looks so old yet they still charge high. Anyway we tried twice to Shiva but now my family wants us to stick with Mantras of Sugarland.
- Pros: location
- Cons: too small & looks like a fast food place
I love this place!!
by AudreyC
I love the comfy food here. My beau & I eat here all the time!! I can eat Indian food everyday! I love the spicy chicken vindoloo, nann & King Fish beer! This is my all time favorite place in the world!
- Pros: Chicken vindoloo, nann

Some people and food touch our souls and Shiva has such a magical touch.Their kind hospitality and delicious food signifies the tradition in fine Indian dining. The soul touching Indian music played in the background makes me want to sit and enjoy each of the songs for the whole evening..The friendly smile from the Naan chef and the fluffy nans he cooks for us compliments each other. Pramod the manager is always pleasant and gives us a feeling of warmth each time we step into the restaurant. We love Shiva and their delicious food. Good luck on their venture at Sugar land .
- Pros: Best Rice Pudding
- Cons: none
Shiva offers the best Indian food in town
by MouthwateringRicepuddi
I enjoy any kind of good food and Shiva's delicious menu offers Indian cuisine at its best. After reading positive reviews about Shiva and hearing praises from friends in Houston I sought out this restaurant’s lunch buffet. The restaurant is tucked away in Rice Village close to Kirby and the Medical Center by Rice University. Parking can be a problem in the Rice Village area.
The buffet was very flavorful and done right. The dishes of chicken & lamb were great. However, there was only one rice dish . The service was attentive and the price of the buffet was good. . Overall this restaurant is a good choice for lunch and a sit down dinner.
- Pros: Juicy Tandoori items
- Cons: Only one rice dish
Good North Indian Food
by Spark
Located in the Rice Village, Shiva is a treat in an area known for diverse cuisines. They offer daily lunch buffet presenting both vegetarian and non-vegetarian entrees. Their menu is quite large and offers plenty for both those that are experienced with Indian food and also offerings for the less adventurous. Travelling from the cold weather of Alaska to Houston’s warm weather, we wanted to have the taste of India in its authentic form. The menu offers many of the age-old Indian favorites that myself and my wife longed for. Popular items include Chicken tikka masala, lamb Roghan josh, Bhaingan Bhartha and Gobi aloo. Rice pudding was the best. Healthy, tasty and fresh food at a reasonable price is hard to find. Shiva surely has it all.
- Pros: Best Chicken Korma and Spinach
- Cons: None
Good food, great price and service - Shiva is the place
by indianfoodpassion
Being an individual with taste to different cuisine and valuing their authenticity I have visited various restaurants. Indian food being one of my favorite I have visited many Indian restaurants in Houston and other states, but I have had the homely feeling and mouth watering taste only at Shiva. Be it their Rice Village location or Sugar land location food is always authentic, flavorful and delicious. I have always loved their Chicken Korma from the Rice village location. Recently I had my birthday party catered from their Sugar land location, I received many compliments for the food and the Mehti mattar paneer topped it all. Any one who does not like vegtable, must try the vegeterian dishes at Shiva and believe it or not will learn to love the vegetable diet. The wait staff was been attentive and very helpful in picking out the menu. The added advantage is the buffet where I could try many dishes at a very reasonable price.
- Pros: Juicy Tandoori Chicken
- Cons: None
Very happy with the food
by eatsleepandship
The inside decor is a little dated and the wine list is nothing to write home about, but the dishes are phenomenal and the Naan with lamb is fantastic. My wife lives the chicken stuffed with cottage cheese and nuts.
PLEASE KNOW WHATS AUTHENTIC INDIAN FOOD IS, BEFORE YOU WRITE A REVIEW
by harijnk
I strongly feel these dumb people who wrote a review does not even know whats Indian food. Mixing rice with some chilly powder and heating up is not Indian Flavor, please get to know how Authentic Indian food tastes like and then you know what to write. Just having in a posh location just keeps on bringing in the shopping crowd, is what Shiva restaurant is cashing in. I am from out of town, and this is the worst food I had ever. Ambience is really good, what good it is without proper taste, I am a food lover and I go to any extent of miles to search a real good restaurant. I will post if I find one good one locally. Until then keep hunting for a Spizeeeee Indian one. Bye. - Hari
- Pros: Just Ambience, nothing else to say about Shiva
- Cons: Does not fit to be called an Indian Food, if you love Indian food, don't go there.
