Best Deli in Town!!!

by lunchspecial at Citysearch

I love this place!! The sandwiches have always been mouth watering and fantastic, but with the recent renovation it is now so comfortable to enjoy my meal. The booths are comfy and private and just the right setting to hang out on a lunch date with my husband or with my family on the weekends. They are now serving gelato too, so that is the perfect ending to my yummy meal. I haven't tried the curb side service yet, but I'm sure I will soon.

Kahn's Deli is FANTASTIC!! Definitely give it a try! You won't be disappointed.

  • Pros: fabulous sandwiches and soups; LOVE the renovation!

Still great deli sandwiches

by Bfortynine at Citysearch

Still the best deli in town. A different atmosphere as it has been renovated, updated and cleaned up. Lots of room now for seating and a place you would take your kids - I saw a lot of them there with their parents. Sandwiches were good size and very fresh meat but more than I could eat. They had lower calorie selections and you could get a smaller size sandwich for less money. The line was long, but the wait less than 5 minutes. I'm hoping for breakfast selections soon. It is nice to sit outside and watch people go by. I like the new look and large photos of the New York skyline.

  • Pros: Best Ruben in Town
  • Cons: Too few deserts

best reubens in town

by insearchofyum at Citysearch

I have had only good experiences at this deli- although I must admit that I am enamored with their reubens. On my last visit, I sat at a table that had been cleared but not cleaned, and immediately someone came over to spray it down and clean it well. My dining companion had a chicken sandwich filled with grilled veggies and tomato pesto that reminded us of similar ones we had eaten in California. It was delicious on a foccacia bread!! But. I must highly recommend the reuben sandwich- absolutely delicious! Definitely worth a visit.

  • Pros: killer reuben, great food
  • Cons: smallish place, parking difficult

Best Sandwiches

by dolphy97 at Citysearch

This place has an old New York deli type of feel to it and they even have those old school coca-cola bottles. My husband loves the Reuben sandwich there and so far all of the sandwiches I have ordered have been delicious. The place is a little small and there are not very many places to sit but that has never been a problem for us. If all you want is a good sandwich, then this is the place to be.

  • Pros: Food, authentic
  • Cons: Seating

Terrible

by OfficialMember1 at Citysearch

I hate to say it but this place is a hazard. There's not a Jewish person working in the place which, although not necessarily a bad sign, in this case it is. They seem to want to plop cheese on everything no matter how many times you politely decline. I agree with the other poster, the staff do make rude remarks about the customers. When I was there one of the customers apparently took umbrage to the insults and started cussing them out, whereupon the staff were only too happy to offer to take it to the streets, even though the never-again customer was clearly getting on in years (70-ish?)

After all that didn't even feel like eating.

Embarrassing experience

by toby27 at Citysearch

Lunch on Saturday was an embarrassing experience. The sandwiches are good but not worth the rude service. Regulars may know the routine but first-timers don't have a chance. We ordered sandwiches and thought we were the only people in the restaurant at the time without food. We waited at the counter in plain sight of those working the sandwich counter. When the first ruben was placed on the counter with a "ruben up" announcement, we looked around and then took it and waited for the next sandwich to come up. No one said a word and we didn't know we had done something wrong. However, we found out later when my "small ruben" was called that we had the wrong sandwich. Still no one spoke to us. But, the 3 people behind the counter made rude loud comments the entire time we were there, seemingly only intended to embarrass us. Comments about "no patience" and "this would never happen on a weekday " and generally going on and on about the orders being messed up because someone took the wrong sandwich. I couldn't believe it and couldn't wait to get out of there.

  • Pros: Good sandwiches
  • Cons: Rude service

DISGUSTING HEALTH AND SANITATION. STAY AWAY!

by mbcam at Citysearch

I took my girlfriend to Kahn's for lunch because I heard pretty good things about it from a couple friends, but my god, what a huge mistake. Immediately, I noticed that the breads and meats were left out on open bins instead of in refrigerated and sealed serving platforms (like Subways and Quiznos), the prices were astronomical for sandwiches, and the tiny "cash-only" sign that's displayed at the counter should be displayed on a big sign at the front of the restaurant, so customers without cash won't go in there blind-sighted. The icing on this nightmare cake however, are the three dead R O A C H E S my girlfriend and I found at the foot of the tables, after we got our sandwiches and sat down to eat. Needless to say, not a single bite was made, we threw our sandwiches in the trash where it belonged, and we left, angry and disgusted.

If you're okay with vermin in your deli, then this place is for you. For everyone else that cares for health and sanitation, stay away from this R O A C H motel.

  • Pros: Seems like a great 1950's mom and pop deli.
  • Cons: Health and Hygiene still stuck in the 1950's.

Party joke

by lmoses at Citysearch

The sandwiches are huge, but nothing to write home about. It was only after we ordered our food and went down the line that there was a sign saying cash only. When the sandwiches are $8 to $ 10 each the sign needs to be at the front of the shop.

  • Cons: cash only

Lox of bagels!!!

by mlasaine at Citysearch

If you like your kosher with a capital K, then this is the place! Definitely a Wall-of-Famer for Hebrew International, Brooklynites and Baptists love this little hole in the wall kosher deli, transplanted from Manhattan's LES... or at least you'd think so. MAZEL TOV!!!

Eclectic decor and tasty New York-style sandwiches make for a real winner.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
The bona fide kosher-style food is the true draw to this Village mainstay. Constructed around sandwiches, the simple menu features all the favorites a transplanted New Yorker could ask for. Kahn's specialty? The Reuben. The Olajuwon Special takes it over the top with the addition of grilled knockwurst (yes, of course it's towering). And the signature Slaw Bird proves that coleslaw and turkey belong together like peanut butter and jelly. Also expect basic salad plates, veggie po'boys, lox and bagels, house-made chopped liver, brownies and banana bread.
