All the other reviews are spot on...

Finally ate there today for the first time. My girlfriend and I split a burger since we also wanted to drink a couple of beers amd not get too full. The burger was great, and even better is that they actually split it onto two plates, both with it's own condiments/fries, which I thought was super cool of them! We sat in the neat little courtyard out back, which is an amazing piece of history in itself...with the OLD surrounding brick walls! The whole building is a Houston treasure, and the kitchen is right there by the front window, so you can watch them cook from the sidewalk. Everything was very clean, from the dining room, to the outside courtyard, to the bathrooms. Prices were great. I don't give it five stars only because "it's just a hamburger" (everyone claims to have the best burger in Houston, and there's lots of good ones...just like this great one...but I've yet to find one that is over the top by any stretch), and the service was good for a "bar"...but less than enthusiastic for a "grill" (we had to go ask for menus). Perfect mix of "burger and bar", in my opinion, and I'll be back for sure!

  • Pros: Great burger and a nice and clean bar.

A new tradition on Wednesday afternoon

by TejasBob

Friends recommended this place for its burgers and they are great. But on Wednesday its Enchilada Verde, made fresh they are something to look forward to in the middle of the week. All white meat chicken and a Verde sauce as yummy as yummy can be. Spanish rice and beans on the side its a plate full. Never mind the value its one of the best plates in town. So as they say in the Windy City "Eat Early and Eat Often".

  • Pros: The patio in Spring and Fall

Delicious BURGERS!

by seamrippstress

Stopped in here after being convinced by my colleague the burgers were excellent. I had the Blue Cheese burger while he had regular cheeseburger. Delicioso! Meat juicy, flavorful and a great deal! Service was quick for a work week downtown and we will definitely be back!

  • Pros: Awesome burgers

Best Local Bar/Grill

by keyserstaf

We live downtown and eat regularly at Market Square . . . Maggie/Neil the waiter staff and cooks are to die for . . . they make you feel like family. Every time I go I feel as if I am in a local SOHO NYC corner bar/restaurant. A home away from home is Market Square. Nightly specials are always good. Their Porkchops would make your Momma smile they are so good. It'a a TEN for good inexpensive food.

  • Pros: You feel at home.
  • Cons: none

Good old American food in a historic Houston district make this a hometown treat.

by Contributor

In Short
Located across from historic Market Square, Market Square Bar & Grill offers good old-fashioned cuisine with a Texas twist. Downtown Dilberts and club-hoppers alike come to enjoy the bistro's filling repast and outdoor patio. Burgers, including the popular blue cheese, are made of a fresh half-pound of 80 percent lean ground chuck. The restaurant also offers the McCool, a portobello mushroom burger that rivals Fuddruckers, and a Canadian bacon cheeseburger among its many offerings.

Best Burger in Downtown!

by t00gwap04u

I'm a student at U of H - Downtown and its only a few blocks walk to this burger mecca. Burgers are flame grilled, staff is friendly, good beer selection, and even though its a bar also you dont leave reaking like smoke. Prices are good even on a students budget.

  • Pros: Everything is great!
  • Cons: none.

My secret...

by noparties4me

This place is NEVER too crowded, NEVER too loud and NEVER off my mind for a good eat! I love the location and the outside seating with the fountains and the vines in the back... it's historic I think. Anywho, the beer is cheap and BOY what a variety. I love the food, especially the burgers, and it's inspiring enough to write a poem everytime you visit. Good waitstaff too! Everyone I take falls in love with it but can never find it when they try to go without me! It's my little secret.

  • Pros: Price, Service&Food, Ambience
  • Cons: Parking, Location

great burgers and beer

by harascrispy

We happened upon this restaurant by chance, but have been coming back regularly. The burgers and sandwiches are excellent (our favorites include the Pete's philly cheesesteak that includes jalapenos and blue cheese, as well as the Jalapeno burger), and are reasonably priced. Decent beer selection as well. The atmosphere is laid back and cozy. Just one block from metro stop, bars and clubs on Main Street.

  • Pros: close to metro, inexpensive, not crowded
  • Cons: none
