Awesome Experience
by CoastieColt
Modern B&B was one of my best lodging experiences. When traveling to the Houston area I normally stay in the Clear Lake. My normal hotels in Clear Lake were damaged in the last hurricane and I was forced to go outside my comfort zone, so glad I did. The drive to Ellington Field was an easy one. This was my first stay and Lisa greeted and treated me like a long lost friend. The breakfasts are gourmet with fresh baked pastries each morning, eggs to order, yogurt, homemade granola, fruit smoothies and on and on. Looked forward to returning each night to the table to enjoy beer and wine with Lisa (the hostess of the mostess) and the other guests. Modern B&B is located very close to many great bars and restaurants. The rooms are very comfortable, WIFI throughout, full kitchens to use whenever you want. I will never stay anywhere other than Modern B&B for my future trips to Houston. Thanks for the great stay, Colt
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: Not traveling to Houston more often.
Can't Get any Better!!

If you like Great Company, Meeting People from all over, Fine Wine, Very Comfortable Beds, Large Jacuzzi Tubs, and the greatest breakfast ranging from Granola to Eggs Made anyway you want...then this is for you. You actually feel like you have a home away from home. Lisa is the host that ALWAYS has a funny story to tell and willing to go that extra mile to make you feel comfortable and get everything you need. Enjoy!!
unique and fabulous

Modern B and B is a really special place - I have never stayed in any b&b like it before. It has a very homey yet contemporary feel - very bright and sunny. Lisa is friendly and so accommodating. Breakfast is served at a large table with the other guests (coming and going). It kind of seems like a family. The food was excellent - including wonderful granola! And I have to add - the bed was ever so comfortable.

Modern B&B
by caryllynn
I travel constantly on my job and long ago gave up staying in chain hotels out of sheer boredom; byou never know what you're going to get in a B&B. Modern B&B was, hands down, the best B&B I've ever stayed at in terms of comfort, amenities and the sheer joy of Lisa's (and friends!) company. I never feel as if I'm staying at a commercial establishment -- I feel right at home. There are always interesting people around and Lisa plays "salon hostess" to great effect. Food: great. Accommodations: Better than great. Company: superb. Flexibility/being accommodating: terrific. The only downside to my writing this review is that I'm afraid so many people will books rooms there might not be any availability the next time I need it!
- Pros: Everything you need from a B&B: business & pleasure
- Cons: not very close to international airport, but oh well
excellent alternative to hotels
by Taoofpooh000
I recommend this place to everyone I meet. I travel to Houston 1 or 2 times a year and usually would stay in a hotel, however after discovering Lisa's place I will never use a hotel again!
This is a wonderful alternative to a hotel for a business traveler. Everything you need is provided, and everything you would want as well. The amenities and comfort level is beyond expectation, and you are made to feel right at home. Lisa is a wonderful hostess, and will make your stay comfortable. The home and grounds are beautiful and the area is very convenient and safe. You can easily access the downtown area within a few minutes, as well as the Galleria.
I recommend the hotel to anyone looking to get away, or that is forced to get away on business. It is a nice respite from the norm of travel.
- Pros: all of it
- Cons: can't think of any
Best Place to Stay in Houston
by caldwelle
My husband and I live in the Friendswood area and have 2 young children, needless to say we don't get out much, and when we do we don't like to go too far. The Modern B&B was absolutly wonderful! We had a relaxing evening, got to sleep in and had the most amazing breakfast. The price was great compaired to other hotels in the area, not to mention SOOOOO much better. When we were making our reservatons the Modern was very accomodating. We will definitly stay at the Modern again and highly recommended you give it a try too!
- Pros: Location and wonderful rooms
- Cons: Cats
Best place to stay in Houston Texas
by Joseph28
My parents live here, about 2 miles from the Modern with a full guest apartment available to me. Nevertheless, I stay there for the experience. I first encountered the place (and the lovely Lisa) when meeting a friend for breakfast who was staying while down from New York. The breakfast is great... cozy with all of the other guests but somehow still edgy. They have a chef come in and make you whatever you want. The fruit smoothie with tofu blended in was awesome. We stayed in the treehouse room on the top floor and really, that's the full experience. The room is twice as big as my house in Austin. Full cityscape views, excellent tub with bubblers, too cool... the private circular staircase is not bad either. There's even a separate kitchen facility if you like to cook, which would be an awesome thing to do. Go shopping, see some local art and then come to your "home" and cook a fine meal with interesting people passing randomly through your dinner party. Just an idea. The Modern B&B is where its at in Houston, and definitely a cooler way to spend a coule hundred bucks than the Marriott.
- Pros: Breakfast, style, art, location, people, hipness, Dwell magazine recommended, etc etc
- Cons: No bad coffee in little packets ;)
The Modern is the best.
by MarkGimenez
The Modern is the best B&B we've ever stayed in, and we've stayed in B&Bs around the country. The rooms are extraordinary and the breakfasts amazing, and the proprietor qualifies as the nicest human being on the planet (as well as the most remarkable person we've ever met). She's the best. We'll always go back to the Modern.
Only at the Modern B&B

I fell in Love with Lisa and this great Bed and Breakfast. I was fortunate to stay there after Katrina. Our company stayed there for a few months after Katrina. I feel like family. It is one of my favorite memories. Lisa was the greatest hostess. She gave us run of the kitchen. I got to make coffee in the mornings. But she made breakfast. We made dinner at night. Each of us took a turn with the cooking. And there was always great conversation and good wine. We had parties at Christmas and New Years. She took us out to meet her friends.
The location is so centrally located. It was very easy to get around town from there.
The beds are the best. I actually came home and bought one like the ones at the B&B. I called Lisa from the Sleep Shop to get the name off the mattress.
I could go on and on. But you really need to visit to experience Lisa's hospitality first hand.
Love you Lisa.
