How cool is that
by purplecat
After several visits with friends and family members , I realized this place is not for everyone. My friends liked the frozen Mojitos and the steaks. My parents as much as they enjoyed the food ( steaks , burgers etc. ) couldn't stand how loud it was inside so we moved outside on the patio, problem solved. So goes to show . But any how did i mention how good the steaks are !!!.
- Pros: good food
- Cons: lound dinning room
never again

Worst Service Ever

Great building including a rooftop bar with a great view of downtown. Fun menu with decent food. The WORST service I have ever had. Most recent visit was my last. No meal is worth the frustration.
- Pros: Great View
- Cons: Service
EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE
by 1resalemom
I always beleive in reading reviews and trying the place myself. Place way busy, our bartender RYANNE was awsome, and very attentive. Finally we got our table, and our waiter was very helpful and attentive. Our food was good and a fun atmosphere. As a business owner my self I understand that the public needs star customer service. If only they would realize that sometimes things happen as in daily life, all orders are not supplied, certain staff members don't show up, personal issues at home. AS HUMANS we should see how we can help and not be petty . I will return because I liked the setting, and the food.
- Pros: WELL WORTH THE TIME
- Cons: PARKING
THE WORST SERVICE I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED
by angie811
we had reservations and when we showed up had to wait for over half an hour for a table....the catch is there was NO ONE in the restaurant. the waitress gave us the most ridiculous excuse for why we had to wait. the drinks were aweful! no alcohol in them what so ever and they served my friend a martini in a stemless wine glass because they "ran out" of martini glasses....how absolutely tacky. the food was bland and presented as if we were eating at an outdoor bbq joint. my suggestion is for the owner to fire everyone on staff and hire people that at least know how to boil water and be pleasant and helpful to the customers. the only reason i give this place one star is because there isn't an option for no stars. i think open city should pay for a night out for my dear friends birthday to make up for the disaster they presented us.
- Pros: nothing
- Cons: everything imaginable
Great view good food

We had a bachelorette party there, and the hostess was very helpful with reservations and seating us. The food was good, a little expensive, but i was very happy with it, and it was pretty much worth it. The drinks were WAY too strong. I know we would have ordered more drinks, if we could finish the first ones. We all ordered different kinds of martini's and we ordered them at the very beginning and sipped on them the whole time we were there, and most of us couldn't even finish them.
- Pros: Great atmosphere
- Cons: Drinks too strong
WON"T GO BACK!!!

If I could give it NO Stars.... I would. This place is run by a bunch of 18-21 year olds and it shows. Please READ THE REVIEWS!!! especially negative ones because they are apparently the only authentic reviews. They must have lost their cook, because we were told that the only items on the menu they had were the hummus and chips and the nachos. The place was not crowded so it wasn't like they had run out of food. This was 6 pm on a Saturday night. Wonder why they have all those menus at every table with a list of food when they don't have any to serve???? The drinks were about as good as you can get at a frat house party. DON"T ORDER a MIXED DRINK or you will be sorry!!! I took one sip and that was all I could stand. The bartender dropped the shaker top on the floor while mixing up my drink and picked it up and kept shaking!!!
A really good deal!

My friend and I went last night to check out the Half price wine thing on Tuesdays. Most of the wines were in the mid teens per bottle. Also, I thought the food was very good. We tried the blackened shrimp on a stick. The sauce on the plate - very good. I had the chicken fried chicken w/ killer gravy. Mashed potatoes were real. My friend tried the ribeye. Simple and straight forward. Our server, Jaime, told me that we should come back on the weekend when it's crowded, but I am not into the being seen thing and recommend you try this place during the week. Overall good food. It would be nice to eat on the roof, but I understand it is set up like a lounge. The only bad thing was they have no valet on Tuesday. Street parking is tough in Midtown, so plan to look for a space.
Drinks, Food, and the View...

Ohhh I am so excited, when the weather starts to change there is nothing better than a pop rock martini, buffalo calamari, and Houston's Skyline at Open City. Their patio is open all year round but it starts to get hoping soon. I bring all my out of town and in town friends over to meet Nadine, Tamer and everyone else, they just take such good care of you. There is always something going on. The sangria is amazing! Everyone should check it out and bring your out of town guests because after dinner and drinks at Open City you are right in the heart of midtown where you are sure to find beautiful people and more great bars.
Open City is a Cool Place to Hang Out!

I had a great time at Open City! I can see how it might not be for everyone. It was crowded and the music was a bit loud - but I enjoyed it. The food was very good. Fish tacos were better than Berry Hill's.
- Pros: food and music
