I finally found this place. Their kitchen exhaust comes out around the corner and I could always smell it but could not find it.

The food and service were excellent. However, I'll likely not be back. I don't understand paying $12 for a lunch plate and then being charged $2 for naan (some of the best I've ever had). I've never paid extra for bread with such a meal. It's sort of like the Chinese restaurant that charges extra for won-ton soup on their lunch menu - won't go back or the salad place that charges $.25 for crackers! I'll go back there because the garlic bread is free - go figure. What do you think the response would be if Cafe Express started charging for their condiments? Also, haven't restaurants woken up to the fact that instead of paying $2 for a glass of iced tea people are just getting water? Maybe it's just me, but I won't stand for the nickle and diming.

  • Pros: Food, Service
  • Cons: Pricing, Value

We took our friend and her husband to Yatra's for her birthday and the food was just spectacular! We had the lamb empanadas and simosas for appetizers and not a drop of the sauce or crumb of bread was left behind. For dinner we split the chicken masala, goan curry, and saag w/ lamb...just delightful. We were somewhat reluctant to dine here given we are fans of Madras and Khyber, but this is now going to be one of favs and can't wait to take more friends.

Regarding price -- for six of us the tab (w/ tip) came to $250. That included 9 beers, two appetizers, and 6 dinners. I don't think it's cheap, but it's not outrageous for 6 people.

  • Pros: The food of course!
  • Cons: Downtown parking

I was disappointed to see that the previous comments on this restaurant were less than favourable.

I have not eaten at the restaurant but I have had take out from here a few times. I found the staff to be very nice on the phone when I called in my order. The food was ready when they said it would be ready. I have never been disappointed with the quality or taste of the food. I am going there for lunch today and will write about that experience afterwards.

They need to start doing delivery through.

  • Pros: The staff are very nice.
  • Cons: they do not deliver

I love Indian food and I work downtown so I was very excited when Yatra opened. My first couple of trips were good - good food and substantial portions but a bit pricey. But now that its gotten popular, the service is EXTREMELY slow and the portions are shrinking so the value isn't there. I paid $6 for a basket of garlic naan! On a lunch special, I would think bread would come with the entree anyway but to charge over $1 per piece of bread is ridiculous. And at a downtown spot you'd expect fast lunch service (surely they can't be cooking to order) - but each of the last 2 trips I made it took over 90 minutes to get Chicken Tikka Masala and Spinach and Pea Soup. I really enjoy the food but I can't afford to go back - I don't have 2 hours to devote to lunch and its definitely not worth a $20 lunch.

  • Pros: food
  • Cons: service

I had a early dinner at Yatra's ( 6ish ). Service was average as well as the food. The meal was average, however after I received the bill it was apparent that I was charged for things that normally are included with the meal. For example, some Basmati rice was charged to my bill ( about $11 ). Though I specified that didn't want bread they gave it to me anyway and charged me for it. A simple meal cost me $50 ( without alcohol ).

  • Pros: Average taste
  • Cons: Excessive charge for rice and bread.

We ate here on a Saturday night at about 8ish. Cons--We were extremely disappointed in how slow everything was from bringing our drinks, taking our order, and bringing/taking our checks. Our staff was not friendly and were riding on borderline rude. For so little people in the restaurant, we should have received exceptional service. Food was okay. Pros---They have a great atmosphere, not crowded, nice and quiet.

  • Pros: atmosphere, easy to get seated
  • Cons: service, a bit overpriced

I also went last night (with the group below) and I am a huge fan now as well. It was my first time to try Indian food and I really enjoyed Yatra's dishes. I highly recommend the spicy calamari as an appetizer and the Chicken Tikkamasala as an entree. As a group we ordered Saag Panir (cooked cheese)...its was amazing with wine! Overall....quaint, warm venue, outstanding menu, and a lovely dinner experience.

** I also enjoyed parking a little ways away and walking to take in downtown ( I never get out that way). A good date night would be walking to Yatra then stopping for coffee at Cafe Express or Timpano.

  • Pros: Overall International Experience and great menu.
  • Cons: Can't think of one.

A group of my girlfriends and I went to dinner at Yatra last night and it was fabulous! I have been before, but not since they changed the decor and "image". Our scene is normally Ibiza or Benjy's but this hidden, hot little downtown destination is definetly a group favorite now! The dramatic red walls and sophisticated bar made me feel like I was at a super-swanky Manhattan restaurant right here in the 713. The food was excellent as well....very cultured and a wonderful presentation. We even stayed for martinis afterwards! I had the Mango martini and it was delicious! In all of our opinions....Yatra is the perfect place for anyone... both the young, sassy movers and shakers and the romanitc love birds! We will be regulars.

  • Pros: Fabulous accross the board! Great Mango Martini, Cultured menu, Trendy scene!
  • Cons: None.
