A Hidden Treat

by AureliaEyre at Citysearch

We visited here this past weekend for the first time, and after reading the variety of reviews posted on this site we were skeptical but optimistic. We arrived around 10:30pm and the place was fairly packed; nearly all the tables were taken. From reading about other people's experiences, we headed to the bar to order our wine instead of waiting at a table for a waiter. On the way to the bar, however, we were intercepted by a server (The owner perhaps? It was her birthday.), who offered to help us. We had to wait a bit before our order was taken, but it was nothing exorbitant. The lady who waited on us was extremely helpful in helping us pick a bottle of wine and it was delivered promptly. The music was fantastic and there was such a good vibe. It was a slightly older crowd (30's +) and by the time we left after midnight, the place had mostly cleared out. I'm almost tempted not to post this good review - we've decided this is "our" place and want to keep the secret to ourselves - but good experiences need to be mentioned. There were two things I would have liked to be different, though. The first is some space to dance - the music was perfect for swing, but the space just isn't there. Also, (and more importantly) I would have liked to have seen descriptions of the tastes of the wine (ex: "a floral wine with undertones of pear...") in addition to the names. I'm not enough of a wine expert to know a lot of different wine brands by name and a description would have helped us to make a decision on our own instead of waiting for help. As it was, we were forced to ask the server (who was very knowledgeable about what she served), and got a bottle we liked a lot. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience, devoid of the usual pretentious glitterazi. We will be back soon.

Casual wine bar in the North Heights area offers a casual atmosphere and tasty paninis.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
During the day, expect a mix of coffee shop loungers and neighborhood locals enjoying this charming Heights spot. Menu offerings include a selection of playfully named panini sandwiches, salads, desserts and assorted healthful bar bites. In the evening, couples scatter about candlelit tables for conversation and live music. Cozy couches and stools at the long bar provide for additional seating. The wine list is varied and champagne is also served by the glass or bottle.

Cozy and Welcoming

by justdanielle1 at Citysearch

Wow - what a fantastic place to unwind, relax and sip on a wonderful selection of wine. The cozy atmosphere no matter if crowded or not, the exceptional service, the pages of selections of wines to choose from .... and there is beer to choose from for you beer lovers. There is a good neighborhood vibe, friendly customers, friendly service - there is simply nothing to not like about this place. So quaint, so relaxing, drop in there for a few minutes and I bet you stay a lot longer!

  • Pros: Great wine selection, atmosphere, service
  • Cons: Small Parking lot but there is plenty of parking on the side street.

Terrible place

by freshhooptie at Citysearch

I had been meaning to try this place for a long time.

The service here was horrible. The waiter didn't care if we were there or not. The waiter also didn't communicate very well when asked questions about the wine.

Also, the music was loud for a wine bar. Hard to have a discussion. I was totally disappointed.

  • Pros: easy to find
  • Cons: service was bad

Awesome wine bar!

by karma4sale at Citysearch

This place rocks! I went there with some of my friends the other night and we had a great time. The wine selection was good, and the bartender knew his stuff! Once we told him what we liked, he made some wonderful wine suggestions. We drank a few bottles of his choices, and a few 'by the glass' choices as well.

The also serve tasty champange cocktails. I drank a Kir Royale, and my friend tried the Lemon Basil. Both drinks were sparkly and yummy.

The place had a mellow vibe that we enjoyed. We could actually hold a conversation without screaming.

And it's a non-smoking bar. Always a plus for our group.

I'm looking forward to many more visits to this lovely place in the Heights.

  • Pros: good drinks!

Mellow Wine Bar

by julie_townes at Citysearch

I just stumbled across this place by accident the other evening and will be going back often. I was actually just fed up with driving in the rain and pulled into the Boom Boom Room parking lot without a clue. What a nice surprise. The interior was warm, cozy, sparkling clean and retro-lounge chic, with candles on the tables, and a chandelier dimmed back to soft, like the music. It was just the retreat I needed, so I would have been content with just that. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to find an impressive wine list with some nice selections available by the glass. I kicked back on the sofa with a glass of wine for awhile enjoying the mellow vibe. My waiter was friendly, cute, and attentive. People came and went, but it never got too crowded, smoky (it's a smoke free space), or too loud. I was allowed to just relax with my wine and was never made to feel as if I had to order food. After a while I smelled the warm, fresh bread smell of someone else's panini baking, so I ordered one for myself. I didn't have to wait long. It was served hot with the bread toasty and crusty, just the way I like it. All the ingredients were fresh.

If you demand your meals served on fine china by waiters in black, go somewhere else. If you are happy with fresh breads, bubbly hot cheeses, and fine wines served unpretentiously in a very pleasant atmosphere, then you will have a positive experience at the Boom Boom Room. Like I said...I'll be going back often.

No BOOM @ The Boom Boom Room

by divachrissy at Citysearch

I met some friends at the Boom Boom Room on a Thursday for Happy Hour. I wasnt sure what to expect with a name like Boom Boom Room. But lets just say there's NO BOOM in the Boom Boom Room. The one good thing about the place is the decor. But the music was TOO mellow and the place was empty, which would have been cool if we were 40-something or older. This is NOT the place for you if you are 20-something/30-something and looking for a decently priced Hour Hour and upbeat music. The price for a Mimosa was $7 and didnt even taste like it had any champagne in it. The price for a pannini was $12 and I think Jack in the Box tasted better than theirs!?! But to top it off, the waitress was EXTREMELY rude and even followed us out to the parking lot to ask "Was everything alright?" as if asking "why did you leave me a $12 tip on an $84 tab?" Well maybe if you were alittle more courtious to your guests, atleast put out ONE smile. Then dont rudely ask them "Do you want a drink? Well, you have 30 seconds til Happy Hour ends." then a few minutes later tell them "well you have a few more mintues til Happy Hour ends." Make up your mind!? And to top it off, DONT BE PSYCHO and follow your customer outside to their car while killing them softly with daggers coming from your eyeballs as they drive off!?! Thats a sure why to SCARE your customers off and make them NEVER want to go back there unless they have a restraining order against YOU. Honestly, I dont even know what her name was...she never mentioned it to us...but she's a skinny little white lady with blonde hair to her shoulders with a long dragon tail attached to her a$$. As if you need me to emphasis this anymore, I do NOT recommend this place. There's too many other bars/restaurants/lounges in Houston to enjoy good music, decently priced Happy Hour, and GOOD service.

  • Pros: Trendy decor, Mellow Ambiance, Good for 40-somethings and older
  • Cons: RUDE waitress, Overpriced Happy Hour, Overpriced Food, Music Sucked

Will Be Back Soon

by easybob at Citysearch

It was a very satisfing experience, the waitress Kaisi was just great. I am a business owner and must entertain clients frequently and the Boom Boom Room was recommended for the ambiance. I like to be able to talk to my client without having to scream and could hold a conversation without difficulty and rude interuptions. The wine list is extensive, the menu is limited but you don't go there for fine dinning. I did have a sandwich and my guest also ordered food which was excellent. I was impressed the waitress told me that everything was made fresh daily at their office and brought in daily. The owner is involved in the total preparation and in my opinion does a great job. the place is very friendly and I highly recommend the wine and a sandwich.

  • Pros: professionalism, atmosphere and conveniance
  • Cons: none

Horrible Horrible Horrible

by jade_heights at Citysearch

Hated it!

My girlfriends and I were referred to this little spot in the Heights and since it's very close to home for me, we decided to check it out on a Friday night. First of all the place was DEAD and everywhere else worth going in Houston is packed at 11 PM on a Friday night. The guy behind the bar was very rude and was more concerned with the TV than the customers and if he wasn't watching TV he was on the phone. The sandwiches were so over priced, they come on tissue paper and are served with chips AND they're in shrink wrap in the fridge (nice and fresh yeah right) this place is terrible and I hope it closes and something cool opens there because it really is a great location.

  • Pros: Close to home and cute furniture
  • Cons: Everything else.

Overpriced Ciabatta and really bad music

by fchickerneo at Citysearch

Went there for a ladies night out with my friends, they gave us a menu and they only had 25% of the things listed there (Great 4 bussiness). When I ordered my "latini" ciabatta and asked for an "extra" ingredient, they explained that they are pre-made, so they just put them in the oven "as is". (Yeah...can't beat the freshness)...Half way through my ciabatta...I bit a Stone cold piece of meat...(it was not even de-frosted!)...Anyways, my friends wanted to stay and listen to the "live band" from switzerland, so we hung around 'till we listened to this very nice guy with not a very good voice...I mean, even Paula would of agreed with Simon Cowell as he said "Horrendous!!".... Bottom line...$22 for a glass of wine, horrendous music and a cold sandwich is not my idea of fun.

  • Pros: Waitress was nice, bartender very rude, he even screamed from the bar!
  • Cons: Good wines
