Crowded, Bad Service
by aus10m at Citysearch
There is one bar and usually two or three bartenders. I was having a good time there, and up until this I was ok with the place. I was waiting to order a beer from the middle of the bar. The bartender serving the middle of the bar was busy helping the ends of the bar at the time, so I waited for the line to clear at the end of the bar, near the front door. I moved into the seat that was being taken by the people that were leaving.
When I got there I asked the red head bartender for an "octoberfest" told me I had to wait because I hadn't waited long enough (at this point it was like 10 minutes). Nobody else where I was wanted service at that time, but he made sure to ask everyone else before he came back to me, these were people he had just talked to. When he returned to me he gave me one second to say my drink, which I had already told him and I was about to say then he turned away and walked to the opposite side of the bar and completely blew me off. It was like the treatment from an impatient card dealer at a casino. I went back to my table where my friend who drove was and I told him that I wanted to leave and we left.
Horrible service. I got the tail end of a mood swing from one of the staff members my last time up there and I will never go back.
- Pros: other people may like it
- Cons: small, crowded, bad service
P0ison Girl, the Cure for What Ales You
by Allen Henson at Citysearch
The P0ison Girl Cocktail Lounge simultaneously breaks as well as maintains many of the stereotypes of what we often refer to as a “dive bar.” This diamond in the rough is seated quite comfortably between two indie clothing apparel stores right on Westheimer in the Montrose District. At first glance PG’s atmosphere is obviously reminiscent of the dive genera. However, what it lacks in space it certainly makes up for in personality. A laid-back social experience further emphasized by the low lighting, inexpensive décor, appealingly generous drink specials, and the notably friendly staff.
The P0ison Girl does not come equipped with your typical bar accommodations. You won’t find a single pool table in this joint but, you will find quite a few pin ball machines, a fairly expansive patio, and everyone’s favorite the giant red Kool Aid Man statue tucked away in the corner.
The digs, staff, and of course the booze are all charming aspects of the P0ison Girl but the real spirit of this establishment comes directly from its patrons. Her crowd could best be described as eclectic. A place where complete strangers can come together and no one leaves without making a few new friends the P0ison Girl is the last place for pretentiousness. If you are looking for a good time, good friends, and a nice stiff drink the P0ison Girl can certainly accommodate.
- Pros: Personality, Excellent Drink to Price ratio
- Cons: Somewhat Genera Specific
Great happy hour; take negative reviews with grain of salt

I found good and bad reviews of this bar online But two friends recommended it for my birthday, and we went with it. It's a little hard to find, but very worth it. We were there for Friday happy hour, and it was great. I guess the business picks up later in the evening, so we went when it was slow. Lots of seating, great drink specials, and the folks behind the bar (especially the blond woman) treated us great. They found out it was my birthday and gave us a round of shots. We had a GREAT time at this place, I highly recommend it... at the right time.
- Pros: fantastic bar, great staff, pinball machines, drink specials
- Cons: can be hard to find, parking is an issue, no food
Cool hang out place!
by Gilsi at Citysearch
This place is really cool! Love the pin ball machines & just the over all feel of the pace when you're w/ a group of your closest friends. But, the bartender on Wed (08/23/2008) was a total B#$CH - her service sucked & she didn't seem like she wanted to be there. (Get another job if you dont like it) Over all I guess good hang out place. If you sit on the sofa's right when you walk in to the right -- really cool!
Best patio bar in Texas!
by ssrhodes at Citysearch
I love this place. It's like a neighborhood dive bar for educated adults! The music is juke-box special, pinball machines from the 70-80's and the coolest patio in Texas to relax, meet friends and enjoy the best margarita in Houston.
- Pros: Perfect hand made Margarita - no mix!
- Cons: No Budweiser...to loyal to drink anything else...good mixed drinks though
Montrose hangout with a decidedly laidback Texas atmosphere and cool neighborhood clientele.

In Short
An addictive mix of area locals and rocker 20-somethings crowd into this lower Westheimer dive bar for cheap drinks and friendly commingling. Inside, the narrow red space is light on decor with a Texas music-heavy jukebox and pinball machines providing the entertainment (besides what's poured at the bar of course). Outside, a low-key Hill Country vibe takes over with plenty of picnic tables, lush plants and sub-tropicals, and random lawn furniture.
