It's not all that!!
by bmwm5driver
I read a rave review in the AAA Texas magazine about thier Tacos. The tacos are good but not sure what all the rave was about.
Its probably better after a long night of drinking or early dismissal from the bars in the area - The Breakfst Klub. Go eat thier tacos if your drunk, then they'll be really good. The rice and beans were average.
The gravel parking lot might be free - its hard to tell, the restaurant interior is sparse - it felt Juarez authentic - and you have to ask the counter for ice if you need a refill. The Service was minimal, but it was good. No tips required.
- Pros: Cheap prices, high quality ingrediants
- Cons: Parking is hard, Juarez cantina decor
Tacos a Oh-hell-no!
by Outerlooper
I would like to visit this place for cheap good eats. However, with the video and the dutch bags in it (which is majority of the crowd's mentality in midtown - you know it hits the nail on the head) not to mention the name of the place, caters to the wanna be causations in Houston. I will stick to Laredo's on Washington.
- Pros: Cheap?
- Cons: Parking!
Some of the BEST tacos in town!
by vappy3
So i'm an avid taco eater and usually stick to the taquerias around town. I live right down the street and after hearing so many reviews about this place, i decided to check it out. I ordered three tacos, fish taco, egg and refried beans and egg and potato with cheese. All were TO DIE FOR! the cheese they use is sharp but adds a nice flavor to the tacos and the service was pretty good. I think I spent $6 total. I'll definitely be going back to try out their guacamole and other items.
- Pros: Food, tacos, service
- Cons: parking. there is none
Friendly, cheap, excellent food
by gmccowboy
Order taker was extremely friendly and helpful. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food and portion size. This place has a slightly alternative, urban hipster-type feel for it. It would be at home in Austin for sure...consequently, there's great people watching here too. The tacos here were better than ones double the price at Teala's. I highly recommend Tacos a Go-Go for dinner.
- Pros: Food tastes great, big portions, great value
- Cons: Close at 3pm on Sunday
The best tacos in houston. period.
by keesa17
houston press got it right in giving this small joint awards for best taco, best guacamole and best breakfast taco. the egg tacos are cheap and you can make them with whatever ingredients you want. i've tried almost everything on the menu and my favorites are the beef fajita and grilled fish tacos. they use pollock and they are better than anyone's. it's an arty, funky little place with a community atmosphere and the music rocks. the parking is not so bad as everyone says. there is a lot dedicated to the businesses on main street and it's located on Winbern street, a small side-street. But you'll find tacos a go-go if you know west alabama because it's between that and winbern. oh -- one more thing -- they have awesome dessert tacos that are made like quesadillas on flour tortillas, all gooey and delicious. the flavors are chocolate, peanut butter and chocolate, hazelnut and chocolate, a s'more dessert taco (my fave); apple cinnamon raisin, strawberry and cream, blackberry and cream and even a pumpkin pie dessert taco, with crushed graham cracker inside. oh, well, you gotta see for yourself, i guess. :)
one more thing: i paid for all my meals with credit cards, so they do accept plastic. maybe that's new?
- Pros: food, price, salsas, originality in food and decor
- Cons: hidden (but worth finding)
good for late night snack
by ellefj
Their breakfast tacos sold me. I got a potato, chorize, egg - there are a million types of hot sauce. voted one of the
"50 best tacos" by texas monthly if i'm not mistaken.
Watch out for unsafe parking areas...midtown has a lot of them.
- Pros: tacos rock
- Cons: parking, the light rail is in the way, small inside
Food is great...the attitude IS NOT!
by shawn1968
This is one of the cooler places in Houston! It's long over due. However, the service fluctuates, it's either great!!..or you get the surly brown-headed girl at lunch time (who might be the manager???) whom I got today. She obviously HATES working with the clientele. I could tell before I got up to the counter she was not going to be very nice...and she wasn't. I watched her serve a nice side of attitude to everyone who approached the counter. It unfortunate because people like her can make a person NOT want to eat there. The guy who is there occasionally is much nicer. It's a common story...one dirt-bag employee ruining what could otherwise be a nice dining experience with their INFANTILE attitude. People wonder why places like Ninfa's reign supreme in this town...IT'S CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE!! A major plus is the green sauce with chunks of avocado!!! It's complimentary...and the food IS good! Too bad they run the place like a 7th grade lunch counter. oh well. DON'T TIP THE JAR IF THEY FLIP YOU ATTITUDE. Tip the cooks instead!!!
- Pros: food, atmosphere
- Cons: service
Fresh and funky taco shop in Midtown for all-day breakfast that's easy on the wallet.
by Contributor
In Short
This inexpensive and artfully decorated taco shop keeps late-night hours on the weekends (a boon for Continental Club patrons) and promises inexpensive Mexican food at next-to-nothing prices. Savor breakfast tacos at any hour of the day or night, sourdough tortas, gorditas, quesadillas, huge homemade tamales, a Tex-Mex Frito pie and burritos, with plenty of vegetarian options. Taco options include picadillo, lamb barbacoa, seasoned fajita and grilled fish with roasted pepper sauce. Beer and sangria served.
Best cheap Mexican food in Houston

Very cool funky atmosphere. Parking is a little tricky; just park by the Continental Club. My husband and I have tried several menu items, and they are all awesome. Cash only with ATM onsite. I especially love the picadillo taco, and shredded chicken taco. We had two meals (plenty of food) for around ten bucks. Very clean place. Fresh ingredients. I have sworn off taco bell and chipotle for good. Highly recommended. We'll be back!
- Pros: price, service, quality of food
- Cons: parking tricky, but hardly worth mentioning; cash only, and there's an ATM onsite
