yuck

by ll0824

yuck. I'm a 21 year old female, I go out frequently, and this place is at the very BOTTOM of my list. drinks arent that great, there is NOOOOO seating. Im not exaggerating one bit, unless you have a table of course. the ration of white/indian/african american people is not anything close to being even. If you are white you will be in the minority. Its not all about race, just your personal preference. too small, too crowded, bad music, NO.

Don't waste your time

by shervinj

We ended up here on a Friday for friend?s birthday. Parking was reasonable at five dollars. Drinks are way to pricy for the type of bar. 10 dollars a drink in Houston is a bit too much.

Entire downstairs is nothing but standing room and a few reserved couches which no one sits at. The upstairs is a VIP area that they guard with their lives even though very few people seem to go up or down.

Service was really bad. The bartenders tend to just want to talk to themselves rather than serve drinks. Worst of all, my friend had to pay $6 dollars for a bottle of water. Now that is blew my mind more than the 10 dollar drinks.

It is not a place I plan on going to again unless there is another event like a birthday party or something there.

  • Pros: Decent music before it turned into house music only
  • Cons: drink prices, bad service, no seats

boring

by marq22

The problem starts w/ the lack of seats down stairs.....music, not varied enough and not danceable, not even movable...boring. I would rather hang out at the bar in a nice restaurant.

  • Pros: no cover
  • Cons: paid parking..standing only..too many reserved table

Wa EVA

by dtorres1971

the problem with this bar/lounge is that they are trying to hard to be like Los Angeles. Problem is that we are in HOUSTON. You can go 2 min down the street and enjoy a drink at reasonable price and kind service. The bar lacks the service and boosts the prices of the drinks. Been there once, never ever going back!

Ownership needs a tuneup

by janedough88

I have to agree with the other reviewers about the management issues. The indiscriminate treatment of customers is certainly an issue. The place tries to too hard to be "chic." I mean, come on, we're in Houston for God's sake. There's also a guy who walks around and calls himself the "owner." He seems to try to pick up every female patron. If this person is the owner he should be more concentrated on staff behavior.

Disappointing Experience

by lmc123

I've been to many places in Houston and was extremely disappointed by the staff at Budda Lounge. We were celebrating a close friends birthday and two people within our party came out with us last minute from out of town. I explained to the staff at the door that I had two people coming and described what they had on to make sure they could get in. I was told they would. So as I waited for them outside, I witnessed another individual with the same dress as my friends walk up and get in with no problem. When my two friends arrived-who were african american-clean-cut, professional-they were told they could NOT get in?! When two minutes earlier, the staff said they would. I was embarassed for them and extremely disgusted by their discrimination. So I decided to leave with them as did most of our party who were white upper-class professionals Luckily one of our group members actually writes reviews for a popular magazine here in Houston and decided to write a small comment about our experience.

French Fries are origially Belgian, you know!!!!

by scottishengineer

Having just heard this oasis of calm had finally appeared in Houston, I quickly found the address and decided to check out the reviews. Having visited the original and best Buddha Bar, in Paris, and enjoyed the 'Chill-Out' music in the French capital, I was looking forward to venturing down-town to sample a little European calm amongst the Houston hubbub. Having read the comments on this site, I have to admit I fear that it has suffered the fate of every 'European' style that has attempted to set root in the US. The 'Nouveau Riche' take it over and attempt to make it more 'Americanised'! I, for one, will not sully my memories of a fantastic club purely to see what 'Americanisation' has done to a fantastic idea. I'll just wair for my next trip to Paris............

  • Pros: A Fantastic Opportunity
  • Cons: Americanised

Do not waste your time at the Buddha Lounge

by drmatthew

The Buddha Lounge is the place for you if you like loud, trendy, crowded and pretentious bars that serve over-priced drinks to a bunch of poser wannabe LA chic clientele. The Buddha Lounge is the furthest thing from being a "lounge" and is pretty much a joke by all standards. If you have low self esteem and feel the need to be seen in your latest outfit from the Galleria, check out the Buddha Lounge. If your IQ is in the triple digits, do not waste your time, money, or patience at the Buddha Lounge.

  • Pros: Hot female bartenders
  • Cons: Crowded, Loud, Expensive, Parking

Not As Advertised Above

by houstonman31

The review written by the company is not accurate at all. It is described as a quiet alternative to the club scene of Downtown and Midtown. This could not be further from the truth. While the people and the help are very beutiful, they are also very rude. The bartenders were slow and more concerned with talking to each other than serving drinks, and the patrons refused to make way so that we could move. The lounge scene was nonexistent because nobody was allowed to sit anywhere because all the seats get reserved. The music was an extremely loud mix of techno and hip hop, and crazy disco ball created all kinds of funky light that will give you a headache. The drinks were also very expensive. A single Bud Light cost $4. I still haven't mentioned that the bathroom upstairs is unisex, so expect a long wait at that line. Again, the people and help are hot, but even that wasn't enough to make it enjoyable for my group. If you like the trendy places with loud music, big crowds, flashy lights, and overpriced drinks then this is a good spot for you because this place was definitely not what was advertised. If you want the quiet lounge atmosphere, then I suggest you look elsewhere.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Misleading description of the place

Pathetic Nouveau Riche Chic...

by capri202

I enjoy going out to the "new hot spots" for a drink after work now and then and this place definitely ranks with the worst. I've been there a few times now and each time is worse. It's one of those pathetic wanna be chic places that simply put, disappoints all around. The staff haven't been properly trained to provide top drawer treatment to their clientele, the drinks are weak, and the bar tenders are slow and they're not even hot. If you work at a tiny little club like this one you basically have no money or options so my suggestion is that they work on there people skills or their manager should reprimand them.

The bouncers outside are illiterate cavemen who couldn't tell a tailored Italian suit from JCPenney. They haven't got a clue who they are asking to wait outside. Phonies with flashy cheap suits get ushered in and doctors and lawyers are made to wait. I also noticed that if you are not white or from the Middle east you can totally forget it, all the black people were in a big long line but they let tons of Indians in. This place needs a serious reality check or they will shut down within the year.

I like to hang out at "see and be seen" lounges, this one is too pretentious to enjoy, its full of too many people who sleep all day and wear cheap clothes with tons of fake name brands... not my scene.
