I was pleasantly surprised!

by RandyW at Citysearch

I have tried many Brazilian churrascarias in Houston and Nelore is by far my favorite. The atmosphere and staff is so welcoming. Nelore has an indoor patio and an upscale dining room both in close proximity to the salad bar. Because the restaurant is small, the service is more personal and slower paced. The meats of course are the best part of the meal. There are about fifteen different kinds of meat including chicken, beef, pork, lamb and shrimp and a full salad bar with traditional Brazilian items such as hearts of palm, Brazilian stroganoff, tubule, cole slaw. Nelore has an extensive wine list, a wide selection of beer and a full bar. I’m definitely going back!

  • Pros: Delectable meats, great value of food for price! Quiet.
  • Cons: No grilled pineapple.

Great Alternative to Fogo

by nativehoustonian at Citysearch

Lovely atomosphere, service is always excellent and the food quite good and more authentic than Fogo. Prices are reasonable for the variety of meats offered. And a big plus in my book is no suburbanites with screaming kids and flip flops which Fogo has become over the last 2 years. Highly recommended!!!!

  • Pros: great food for the money
  • Cons: none

More pricey than I expected. Excellent service. Quirky.

by plungerhead at Citysearch

I give an average rating solely because of the price. Lunch for $30+ a person is bit more than I am used to for this kind of restaurant. Also the meat was not the best, but was good.

For the most part, service was EXCELLENT- never a problem getting skewer service. Also, although the price is double what I used to pay before moving to Houston, the waiters have awesome puffy outfits with jodpers and are very polite and solicitous. The other great thing is the location. As a central Houston elitist, I don't like having to leave my neighborhood for any crappy "F.M." location. So if you hate the suburbs as much as I do, it is worth some premium to stay in the Museum area.

  • Pros: Enjoyable place. Decent location.
  • Cons: $$$$ey

Average Churrascaria...yawn...do better

by fiorucci at Citysearch

Nelore is simply average. I mean, if I had a business client or date that I want to impress, I'd go to Fogo de Chao. Its selection and presentation has a wow! factor that Nelore totally lacks. There are romantic talbes and business tables, whereas Nelore has a tight, uncomfortable layout that works well for neither business or romance.

If I want to entertain friends, or families with kids, I'd go to Todai. The churrascaria there offers the same table-side carved meats for a little less, and has a great sushi and seafood buffet that will have everyone smiling. And it's next to the cinema: great Brazilian meats, sushi, seafood...and catch a decent flick.

Nelore, like I said, is average, if you happen to be in Montrose and want little more than a convenient big tab for lots of meat and little else.

  • Pros: In Montrose, if you're there
  • Cons: Wow factor! Better value elsewhere

good food and lots of it, price not what expected though

by beaucfus at Citysearch

Citisearch shows this restaurant as being $21-$30, it was $37.50 per person. Bit of a surprise. But still the food was good, not as good as the other restaurant here in Houston that has the same style of serving food, but pretty good. Being at the exact same price point as the other restaurant in Houston, go to the other.

  • Pros: Good food and lots of it
  • Cons: filet mignon tasted like rough flank steak with no seasoning

Great restaraunt at a superb value compared to Fogo De Chao. I have no complaints of this churrascaria at all!!! Prompt seating, great service, super friendly staff , and last but not least the food. For a unique dining experience you should try Nelore. Guaranteed you will come back for more!

Great food isn't so great if it doesn't make it to your table....

by houstoneater at Citysearch

I have been a fan of Nelore, but tonight's experience was lacking in service at the table. I actually left hungry because my repeated requests for pork were to no avail. Eventually no one came at all to serve meat despite a green signal. I believe the waiters just could not understand what I was saying though I was really working at it. Why should I, the customer, have to work so hard to be served? When it came to dessert, the "ice cream with raspberries and blackberries" was melded ice cream (literally flowing liquid) with strawberries and blueberries. Despite considerable hunger, I left anyway. It was a slow night for them, and perhaps that is an explanation, but at $107, it was not an excuse. So, while I generally recommend this restaurant highly, it is also true that it can be a disappointment.

Excellent Alternative to Fogo

by grcastil at Citysearch

I had a great experience here. Reservations were made for a Friday night & were promptly seated despite having a large party. The restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere & the food was excellent. There were no issues with drink service & the waiters were constantly aware of our needs, especially with warm bread. The meat servers were attentive & made rounds frequently. I was fully satisfied with the quality of food & the selection available. The salad bar was also well-stocked. I still hold Fogo to a higher regard overall but I liked this dining environment better. In respect to price, this restaurant is much more reasonable.

  • Pros: Fresh food of high caliber, Attentive staff, Comfortable env't, Relative cost
  • Cons: Salad bar with less selection than well-known competitor, Parking valet only

It was so so

by mkkistler at Citysearch

Myself and three others dined at Nelore Churrascaria Brazilian Steakhouse this past weekend. I had made reservations a few weeks in advance and called back to verify my reservations. When I arrived the hostess could not find my name on the reservation list. Fortunately we were seated within a short time. The salad bar was great. The meat was so and the service was not very good. It appeared that they were not watching to see if you plate was empty and you needed more meat, but they had a pattern that they followed and you got meat when they arrived at your table, whether you wanted it or not. Drinks were allowed to remain empty and when reorders were made in some cases it required reminding the staff of the order. I would have expected more one on one with the waiters, instead each were serving the entire restaurant and it appeared a little chaotic. I expected a little more considering the cost and the fact that gratuity is included in the bill.

All-you-can-eat Brazilian steakhouse in the Montrose area for meat, meat and more meat.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
By now the churrascaria concept is familiar to Houstonians: eat your fill of skewered meats and give thanks to the gauchos. But Nelore also promises an upscale atmosphere and plenty of menu options. Choose from 11 different meats including USDA filet, sirloin, leg of lamb, baby back ribs, chicken and sausage. The self-serve salad bar offers complementary flavors like Brazilian-style black beans, hearts of palm salad, fried bananas and polenta. The dessert and wine lists are varied.
