DANGER: Less than fresh oysters

I have been here a few times on the patio, enjoyed immensely.
Today (10/2/08) we were served less-than-fresh oysters, only realizing it once I wondered why I didn't finish them more quickly! A couple smelled like fish instead of the sea or were rubbery. We cancelled our oysters Rockefeller and ordered something else. The (quite good) bartender said we weren't the first to complain. They weren't comped, but we had eaten most of them before we realized. I'm not objecting to them not being comped, I'm objecting to the TOTAL lack of management's concern, not even warranting a visit to see what we said. We still tipped 25% for the better than average service. I would have written to them privately had they the foresight to actually have a website, so I will complain here, and with my feet. UPDATE 10/02/08. Spent Friday afternoon on the commode. Called to complain and was offered free food! When I pressed, was told that 'everyone knows Galveston oysters are bad right now'. When I tried to get a word in edgewise as to why they still served them, the 'assistant manager' (Marlon) became combative, so I went down to see him face to face. Clyde the GM was mortified, but was obviously asleep at the wheel. I will NEVER be back. Make up your own mind, at your own risk.
- Pros: Good bartenders
- Cons: Served bad oysters despite knowing they're probably bad.
Best Seafood in Town

My husband and I thought we would try out Denis Seafood for the first time because our neighbors go there often and we had a great experience. We arrived at 7:00 on a Friday at the place was packed. We were seated immediately and our server named Renan was fantastic. He promptly greeted us and we had drinks and a wonderful Jumbo Lump Crabcake that we split. I got the Golden Tile with the lemon butter crab topping which was out of this world and my husband got the filet with a stuffed potato. He said it was better than the high end steak places by far. We finished the evening by splitting a fabulous bread pudding.
We will become regulars.
Looks aren't everything!

Denis' Seafood House has great curb appeal. It looks like a fortress so I thought maybe the food is as good as gold, but I was mistaken. First of all the hostess did not greet us happily. She made us feel like we had interrupted her break. The server was very pushy and insisted we have cocktails so I ordered a drink and he never brought it. I was O.K. with water but it struck me as funny after all of his effort. The servers were all grouped together and talking so I had to signal them with eye contact to take my order. My server eventually came over and apologized, and asked if we were ready to order even though it was obvious. I looked at my watch at that point and it was 7:39. The food took forever to come out and it was incorrect. The waiter informed me that he would have it corrected but it may take a few minutes because the kitchen was shorthanded. I waited and I waited and I waited. Finally it came out and the food was not worthy of the wait. The fish was dry so I think they used the same piece of fish and just put the correct sauce on it. Our water glasses stayed empty most of the time. I was tired of the struggle and did not enjoy the visit at all. I had been looking for the manager and finally spotted him as we were leaving. He asked how our dinner was. I told him not good and he should be more involved in the dining room because the service was terrible. I looked at my watch at that point and it was 9:20. I let him know we had been there for 2 hours and not because we were relaxing. He did not offer any kind of apology, but rather gave us the excuse that they were short handed. I hope they are not shorthanded when you choose to visit Denis' because they will be taking the night off at your expense. When it comes to management, service and food quality Denis' Seafood is seriously lacking to say the least.
- Pros: We do not have to go back there.
- Cons: We already waisted one night there.
Absolutely the best!!!

My husband and I went there last night for our Valentine's dinner and it was AWESOME!! Service was excellent, food was fabulous(I mean absolutely DELICIOUS!!). We had the crab bisque, blackened mixed grill(which was shrimp, fish, stuffed shrimp, scallops). I had never been to this location but we had frequented the Westheimer location and this meal was very impressive! We will definitely be going back soon!

Im not sure what the other people are saying, but if what they say is true then ALL the problems have been solved. I went last night and it was incredable. If they Ever had any problems they must have fixed them pretty quick. The service was outstanding, and the food was cooked to perfection. Will deffinatly return very soon, maybe tonight!!!
- Pros: just plane awesome
- Cons: non

Im not sure what the people below are describing, but my visits are always awesome. The staff is friendly and always prompt. The fish is the freshest you will find. If you show up when they open at 11am, they will sometimes bring out for you the whole fish that they filet fresh every morning. I actually got to see what a whole "Golden Tile Fish" looks like. i learned that its a type of snapper. So, not only do i eat good, i learn a little about what im eating, makes it even more worth the price. Deffinatly a place to go check out!!!
- Pros: Fresh fish, large dinning area.
- Cons: ??????????

Today (10/2/08) we were served less-than-fresh oysters, only realizing it once I wondered why I didn't finish them quicker! A couple smelled like fish instead of the sea. We cancelled our oysters Rockefella and ordered something else. The (quite good) bartender said we weren't the first to complain. They weren't comped, but we had eaten most of them before we realized. I'm not objecting to them not being comped, I'm objecting to the TOTAL lack of management's concern, not even warranting a visit to see what we said. This is unacceptable. I have been in the food business 15 years and would fire the manager over this. Off shellfish is the greatest risk to Consumer Health there is. We will not be back, and will tell everyone how much I disagree with their management philosophy. Oh, we still tipped 25% for the better than average service. I would have written to them privately had they the foresight to actually have a website, so I will complain here, and with my feet.
- Pros: Good bartenders
- Cons: Lack of management concern over fresh product served at Happy Hour
good service, good drink!

I'v been going to this place for about 6 months. All the servers are really friendly but some do need more training on food knowledge. One time the server even brought out my salad and main course at the same time. the food is pretty good overall, however, it appears to be a bit inconsistent sometimes. for examples, the last time I ate there. I ordered seafood fondeaux and fried calamari as appetizers. the fondeaux wasn't as cheesy as it used to be, it was pretty watery, and we found 3 fried mushroom in our calamari dish. How abvious that is! the kitchen manager really need to get on top of it.
Despite the unpleasant dining experiences, I really like how the bar is operating now. It has two flat screen TV constantly runing sports and news. they closed out the bar area for live music and provide awesome happy hour snacks and drinks. the bartenders are very attentive and friendly.
And I have to say the two female bartenders are so HOT!!! (one Asian and one Hispanic) I was there again with couple friends on last Friday night. the whole bar was packed, yet Maggie and Faith could still managed to took care of us. I totally disagree with the person below. Those girls make fantastic drinks. In fact, my friend just had a cosmo that night, he said Maggie made it perfect and that was the most refreshing one he's ever had. Plus, if you go now before the Beijing Olympics ends, you'll find out a lot more about China because that's one of the girls' hometown.
Overall, good place to hang out and get some quality service especially if you're a single guy like me.
- Pros: hot bartenders, cold drinks, and big TV
- Cons: food inconsistency
This place needs HELP....BAR HELP!

Very nice place...and that's it. Servers try their best to be "up scale" but they just can't pull it off. Plate presentation is awesome. Food is overall okay. A little over priced. We started @ the Bar...It took 3 "Bartenders" to make a Cosmo. And when it finally got to us (5 minutes)...it was terrible. Very bitter! The female Bartender that served us said the "she used to be a Hostess"??? That explains the Poor Performance. They need some Bartenders BAD!!!
Service was good in the Dining Room. The servers need to relax a little and enjoy there jobs. I still recommend others to try the Seafood Rice...just stay away from the BAR!!!
- Pros: Great Ambiance...
- Cons: Need more experienced help....especially in the BAR.

In Short
With dark woods, carefully chosen artwork and a glass-walled kitchen, this white tablecloth eatery brings a touch of class to Louisiana-style Gulf Coast seafood. Popular appetizers include smoky, seafood-filled gumbos, fresh-shucked oysters and a jumbo-lump crabcake. Fish is filleted in house and features daily catches such as red snapper, mahi mahi and amberjack with a variety of toppings; shrimp dishes; po'boys; steaks and pasta. Popular for lunch, the menu features 10 entrees for under $10.

Hey everybody! I have eaten at Denis Seafood on Katy Freeway numerous times and their seafood is to die for. They have awesome soups, crab bisque and shrimp and crab gumbo and great service. Your waitstaff will check on you all the time to make sure everything is going well and there drinks are great too. I love their main courses because they have so many and their prices are good at lunch time. I totally recommend this place to anyone and everyone who loves cajun seafood or just seafood!!!
- Pros: Their food, their decoration of restaurant, their bar drinks
- Cons: You must have a little money to spend when you come in because you'll want everything!
