BEST CHINESE CUISINE SINCE WE WERE IN SAN FRANCISCO
by plmpph
We were tired of the same old Chinese food in the Galleria area restaurants where we've gone for years and spent some time on line checking out reviews...found this listed overall as the best Chinese food in Texas.
One time there....and we believe it.
Best Chinese we've had since visiting our daughter in San Francisco for July 4th weekend (2009)
- Pros: FRESH FOOD, GREAT FLAVOR, SUPERB SERVICE
- Cons: Not as small and intimate as we would like.
Lots of hype -- but where's the beef?
by canwetalk
Yao's was average food-wise. Yes, it's owned by a sports celebrity. So? The interior decor is quite average. If I shut my eyes, then opened them, I wouldn't even know I was in a Chinese restaurant. The decor is nondescript. Not a scintilla of Orientalia to be seen. No free tea. No free fortune cookies even! The service was excellent, the menu large. The food was okay. It was quite crowded for lunch. There's nothing memorable about the place. Yes, decent eats for a good price. That's it.
- Pros: Fast, efficient service
- Cons: Ho-hum in the food & decor departments
STEP ASIDE, P.F. CHANGS, YAO'S IS TAKING OVER
by samnicjack
YAO'S Is the best chinese food iv'e ever had, anywhere! The service is great and I would say it's speed is normal. But hey while you wait you can check out their world class bar. If mixed drinks are your thing try a GREEN MONKEY,but its a sneaky one. My favorite dish is the sezchaun pork with shrimp, it is the best iv'e ever had. The eggrolls are also one of a kind, they are packed with cabbage and chunks of chicken unlike most places that use shredded meat. The setting is so beautiful and unique, it would be perfect for any type of dinner. Overall I would have to give YAO'S 5 stars although, it would be nice to see YAO there...
- Pros: TASTE, TEMPERATURE, SETTING, SERVICE, STAFF
- Cons: NO CONS
LOVED THE FOOD.
by macha81
So last week My Boyfriend and a friend decided to check out YAO's. Well we loved it. We all agreed that it was the best Chinese American food in Houston. The pricing was real cheap. I was actually expecting to pay more. The decorations were lovely and spacious. I love sweet and sour chicken and they made real soft not hard like most places. ANyways check this place out.
- Pros: great food
- Cons: service could have been faster
best chinese-american food
by joeyrr71
the food was excellent. we love chinese american food. Yaos restaurant doesn't use MSG in their food. The taste of the food is light & tasty. I finished everything in my plate which is rare unless the food is very good like this one. I had the hot and sour soup, chicken egg rolls & the orange peel chicken, everything was excellent. It took me awhile to find this restaurant but i found it. goodbye PF Changs, Pei Wei, and Kim Son, Aloha YAO!!!! My partner is the MOST finicky eater, he loves good food, and he loved YAO. Thank you YAO
- Pros: excellent food, good timing
- Cons: waiters play a little with each other(unprofessional)

Worst Service and Nothing Special about the Food
by smknredchick
I have always wanted to try this place and I went for a small company lunch. Everything was going good until we noticed about 30 minutes after our appetizers that our main dishes were not here yet. Ya well we didn't even see a waiter til another 30 minutes and that is when they informed us that they had lost our order and they are starting to prepare it now. When the food finally got there we were so disappointed that we had waited over an hour for our food and found out PF Changs is way better!!!! There was nothing special to the food and the service is horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We didn't get out of there with in 2 hours! How sad!
Decent chinese food
by MJfood
The food was surpisingly good and authentic. This place isn't gourmet at all, and it shows in the price. You are pretty much paying like couple bucks more - than those other lai-tan-shanghai-hunanhashdkjhsd restaurants - for the interior decor/name of the restuarant. It's worth it if you are looking to eat chinese in a pretty place. Happy hour at the bar is def a plus.
Loved the Bar!
by bcoleman124
I brought a group of my co-workers there for the first time for their happy Hour! They have great happy hour. Inaddidtion to that their bar served full menu just like a restaurant. Most Bar do not serve full menu but they do. We ordered the crab wontons and chicken lettuce warp. I have to tell you, the crab wonton is to die for! It is stuffed with generous portion of cream cheese. The best part is the bartender Jose. He was very personable and he took great care of us. I have to applaud him for accomodating our loud group.
- Pros: Great Bar
Best Pan Seared Salmon!
by cvasquez122
I love the salmon. I never has such good taste when it comes to the sauce for the pan seared salmon. First time there and definitely will be back. When I first walked into the door, I was greeted right away with warm welcome. The server seem to be very knowledgeable on all the menu items when asked. He recommended me to have the Pan Seared salmon. The fish is just right not overly done. The meat is moist and the hot chili sauce that come with is is sweet but not overpowering. It is just right. I will be back for more to try out different items.
- Pros: Great Salmon
- Cons: Wish they opened another one is Katy
