Worst sushi I have ever experienced
by TRAVELusa at Citysearch
I am a sushi buff and try to sample the city's finest every time I travel- which is once every two weeks to a major US city. I have experienced excellent sushi in Las Vegas, Chicago, LA, NOLA, NY, Atlanta, Dallas, Minneapolis, DC, Portland, Burlington, Miami, Orlando, Indy, Philly, San Fran, San Diego, and the list goes on and on. These range from 5-10 on a 10 scale. Azuma came in at about a 2. The avocado was so hard that I could not push a chopstick tip through it. The menu was scarce and non-descriptive. The taste was hardly worth the 6 block walk from downtown Marriott. I wish I would have seen a review like this before i spent my final night in Houston and wasted a meal and 60 bucks. Next time I will try The Fish.
- Pros: walking distance from downtown
- Cons: See below
The other location on Kirby is sooo much better

I went to the DT location and took some newcomers. I raved about the restaurant and discovered that the fish and rice tasted dry. I was embarrassed.
- Pros: Atmosphere
- Cons: Food was so so

The waitress, Michelle, was very attentive and pleasant. The sushii was second rate at best. I have had better at shopping mall sushi stands.
- Pros: Great service
- Cons: Mediocre food
Best Sushi Dishes
by mochanik31 at Citysearch
I'm a huge sushi eater and lover and have tried numerous sushi bars. Azuma D/T is my favorite, hands down. I love the White Angel & Red Devil sushi plates..they are awesome! The fish is always fresh and I actually witnessed a delivery of fish once. They guy came in with this huge, fresh fish and they unwrapped the fish, cleaned it and began to slice it up for sushi. Ask for a Melon Rita..those are great too! I like RA too on Westheimer and their lobster & shrimp roll is to die for but to me, Azuma has better rolls overall and their sushi taste fresher.
Better Sushi elsewhere

It's nice having a sushi restaurant downtown, but it's not very impressive. The decor is wonderful and the service is nice, but the two times I have eaten here I wasn't impressed. I've had fresher fish at other sushi restaurants in town.
- Pros: location, decor
- Cons: not the best sushi
Great night
by blanch_69 at Citysearch
Had a great night. Food was good (had tastier tuna elsewhere), service excellent (we were drunk and a bit outrageous, yet our server remained polite and courteous and agreed to our every request). Nice decor, great cocktails. Just everything great. And I am a hard man to please. I will return.
- Pros: Setting, service, food
- Cons: Pricey
Customer service and the Kitchen's attention to detail have slipped cconsiderably in the past three weeks
by sctexas at Citysearch
Normally, I take people to Azuma's because of its great service and it is one of the more entertaining eating experiences in Houston. Food is good, but not 5 star. Service is generally 5 star. However, the past two times that I have been to Azuma's the service has been mediocre at best and the kitchen's attention to detail on the food has been poor.
1. Rice is served with cold teriyaki sauce.
2. Rice is reserved cold with hot teriyaki sauce.
3. Azuma Chicken and Azuma beef dishes were not hot when served. They were barely warm. A sterno can is usually burning underneath the bowl to keep the food hot. This sterno can was out of fuel. The waiter had disappeared for a long period of time and when he finally returned to the table, and I was able to point this issue out, the chicken was cold and mushy. The waiter's response was to take my chicken into the restaurant and look into the sterno can. He then pointed out that there was a small chunk of fuel under the bowl. He re-lit the chunk and fuel as if to say "See". The food was cold by this time so I just told him to take it away. This waiter didn't even bother to check the other guest's Azuma beef.
This is not the most expensive restaurant in Houston, but it is not cheap and the bill for two people often tops $65.00. I expect much more and up until two weeks ago, I always received what I expected.
- Pros: Great location, romantic decor, fun food
- Cons: Service and quality of food preparation has dropped dramtically in the past two to three weeks
The best sushi good service.

This was probably one of the top 3 meals that I have ever enjoyed. The presentation of our rolls was excellent and the flavor unbelievable. The service was excellent and helped to make for a great evening. The red devil roll and the pollo were the best. When we were leaving the only problem of the evening was encountered when we had to wait 15 minutes to get our vehicle back at the valet stand. Highly recommended.
- Pros: Food Service
- Cons: Parking
AZUMA - GREAT PLACE TO EAT
by cpc23 at Citysearch
Sunday evening at the bar - as usual the staff was very friendly, accomodating to us soccer fans by changing the TV in the bar to allow us to enjoy a match with our mojitos...which were the best we've had anywhere, kudos to the bartender, Leon. Our meal was beautifully presented and perfectly prepared. We enjoyed our evening very much as we have our previous three visits. If you haven't been to Azuma yet, you need to move it to the top of your list for places to go.
- Pros: Food, service, ambiance, location, valet parking (free just tip
- Cons: Parking
