I don't live in the area, but was there for a shower a few weeks ago. The food was really good, but service was a little slow. There was about 10 of us and the food we got quickly, but we all ran out of our iced tea and had to ask for more. I did notice our waitress standing by the restrooms while we sat with nothing to drink. The shrimp salad was very good, but too many bell peppers for me. The pumpkin bread was fantastic and I even brought a loaf home with me. I'm going to be back in that area soon and plan to get more pumpkin bread to bring home with me. The spiced tea is also really delicious.
Horrible Service and Food

I had visited the restaurant once before with the urging of my friend. I took my daughter and we both enjoyed, I got the special (quiche lorraine) and my daughter got a croissant sandwhich. Although I was not sure who my server was, I was well taken care of. I returned with my son and friend, and we saw our waitress twice. Once was to take our food order, and when she finally came back she was not even aware that we had already gotten and eaten our food. The broccoli cheese soup left a lot to be desired and the potato soup was straight from a powder mix. I was hunting for the tuna salad on my bread. I never thought it to be too hard to make a PB&J but it was for whomever put this sandwhich together, and they must have counted the tortilla chips because he was given exactly 5. It was way over priced for the amount of food and quality of service. I will NOT be returning!!!
- Cons: Poor service and bad food quality
Bad Service/Managment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Noelia at Citysearch
I had the worst service yesterday and the food is not all that great anyway I have had better at subway. I do not know if its because its under new inexperienced management but I did not like what I saw.
The prices are to much for very little food. Times have changed for the worst. Do not expect to get friendly service here. I walked in did not get a menu or a smile, two other party's came in after me got service before me. I had to to flag the girl and say can I get a menu please.
she gave it me and walked away did not ask me what I wanted to drink or even clean the table. I sat and waited for my service but nothing. I started to think maybe its because we where the only Hispanic family their but I don't know. I would like to think that was not the case. But you never know. So anyway I want to spend my money At the best BBQ Restaurant in Pearland right down the street with great family owned frindly service, Central Texas Style BBQ. Now when I come in to town I will eat here, no question.

the best tea room ever.
by shallielucas at Citysearch
I use to eat at the tea room 30 years ago when it was just a small building with a little white swing on the front porch. I loved it. I have been to the new location once but it's just not the same. but it's still wonderful. I would love to get a recipe for the chicken salad, if anyone has it? my mom and i are going to try and make some sandwiches this weekend and get together with the kids and this would be a great sandwich to try and replicate for the kids. thanks shallielucas@yahoo
best desserts in the Houston area

The Pear Tree was owned by my mother. She owned it for almost 10 years. She sold the business to the "manager" about a year ago. I grew up on this food- it is wonderful. The desserts really are the best. It seems that the new owner has odd hours, I would suggest calling ahead. People have commented that the service is poor but I have to disagree. The restaurant is extremely busy during lunch hours, because the food is that good! It is worth the wait.
Best place to chill

The food is awesome. I am getting chubby after what i ate there, because i couldnt turn down the opportunity to eat there. :) I loved going after the rush because there is limited seating but the night shift always made me happy. I loved the chicken sandwich, along with the pumpkin beard sandwich. The veggie soup is to die for...And every now and then kara would make a great cheesecake too. I remember Amy and Kara being there keeping us company and the manager was there to catch up with. I highly recommend the food and service when you just wanted somewhere cozy to eat.
- Pros: Food and nightly service
- Cons: rush wait
Fantastic Food - Mediocre to Poor Service
by DDMcK at Citysearch
Wow, What a mixed bag of attributes for this little restaurant. I've been eating at the Pear Tree for years and the food just keeps getting better and better and the service just keeps getting worse.
They still refer to themselves as a Tea Room, but it is more of a Cafe than a real Tea Room. However they do have a spiced tea that is absolutely delicious.
Overall, their food is Great. They have a plate of assorted sandwiches, which is what I usually get, and I enjoy them every time, especially the chicken salad and the pumpkin bread. They also have daily specials that for the most part, are very good, although I have had some that I didn't care for. My favorite is the shrimp salad ,but they don't seem to have it very often.
Their desserts are out-of-this-world. The Coke Cake is my favorite but the Hummingbird Cake is a close second. On rare occasions, my husband goes with me and he swears by the banana pudding -says it's better than what his mother made, and for him, that is saying a lot!
Their service is another story - It is often very slow and not as "Southern Friendly" as you might expect, nor as it once was. Too, they never seem to have enough wait staff. Another problem is the ever-changing hours of business and the seemingly arbitrary closings. If you are traveling any distance at all, you might want to call ahead to make sure that they are open.
A final comment, I don't recommend going in the evening hours, even if you happen to find them open. Did that once after a movie and found the place run by teenages who could not have cared less that we were there.

Best Tea Room Around

I have visited the Pear Tree for several years now and it is the "greatest". Some days you do have to wait a little longer than I would like but, it you are with good friends what does it matter! Great place for the "girls" to eat and catch up. If you are fortunate enough to go on a Saturday that they are serving the Shrimp Salad stuffed in an avocado, you must try it. I counted 3 dozen large shrimp in the salad I had. Spiced tea is wonderful and the desserts are fabulous. Go, enjoy the food and take a friend with you to share the experience.

Great FOOD TERRIBLE SERVICE
by guido1234 at Citysearch
The food was delicious but the service was horrible. We constantly had to ask for drink refills and when we asked for the manager it became worse. The manager was the person that we noticed was too busy flirting with his female wait staff instead of running things. Wont go back again unless someone calls in an order.
- Pros: Good Food
- Cons: Management nees to stop hitting on his staff membersn and run the business
Worth the call ahead, but wish you didn't have to!

We LOVE Pear Tree- the special is the best and the spiced tea is amazing, a pitcher is very reasonable and serves the whole table. My only complaint- in MANY visits is that the hours are fickle. I have always had great service, prompt ordering/serving, and been told thank you/come again on the way out every time. It is frustrating though to have a craving, load up your mom, sister, and friends then arrive to locked doors. I have resorted to calling ahead which isn't the end of the world but when you are out and about or have a friend you'd like to treat, its frustrating to find the number/check or change dinner plans. I respect not being open on Sunday but the strange/ever-changing hours Mon.-Sat. make it complicated to get there on a whim. Bottom line- call ahead, go hungry, and enjoy a spot o' tea!
- Pros: great food, reasonably priced, cute atmosphere, comfort food
- Cons: hours change with out notice
