DO NOT order a cake from this location!!!

by dessertfanatic at Citysearch

I would first like to state that I love Ben and Jerry's with a passion, and hate to even complain about this matter. However, I am disgusted with the manager/"owner" and his lack of professionalism.

I went to the location and spoke with the manager in giving him the details of my cake. It was to be a 61st birthday cake for my mother. I needed the cake on July 3rd at 5:30pm, ordered it on Monday June 30 (3 days earlier), more than enough time to make a basic cake. He guaranteed that it would be taken care of.

I received a phone call on July 3rd at 4:15 by the manager. He sounded a bit frantic and uncertain, and stated that his "cake lady" had other priorities and she would not be able to finish the cake by 5:30. However, he asked if I could pick it up at a later time, about 6:30 to 7pm. I was upset, but not too worried about it being ready.

I arrived at about 6:50 later that evening to pick up the cake. It was a disaster! The cake was lopsided and extremely messy. It looked as if a 5 year old had made the cake. It was small in size and already melting. I was very upset and requested to see the manager, who of course had already left.

So we call him on his cell phone. He stated that his "cake lady" never showed up and that even though he is not a baker, decided to make the cake himself. He offered up apologies and excuses. I stated that I was not paying for this cake. He insisted that he would get in trouble for doing that, and offered me 40% off. The only reason I agreed was due to the timing of everything. Not only was I more than an hour late for the party, I had to give my mother and everyone else a cake that was small, not presentable, and brownie pieces that were not cooked.

If I ever decide to order a cake from a Ben and Jerry's again, it will not be from that location. However, I doubt I will.

Ben and Jerry's has always been an exclusive ice cream store and he has brought its reputation down a couple notches.

  • Pros: great ic cream
  • Cons: horrible ice cream cakes!!!

Thanks to this chain, everyone can enjoy chunky, funky ice cream with a clear conscience.

In Short
More than just ice cream moguls, Ben and Jerry built their empire on a great product laced with social awareness. And what a difference pure ingredients can make. Among the 40 flavors in this scoop shop are Chunky Monkey, Phish Food, Cherry Garcia and New York Super Fudge Chunk, just to name a few. Decadent sundaes swim in real hot fudge topped with fresh, homemade whipped cream.

What a great smelling store! My server said it was the smell of freshly baked waffle cones! Delicious! There are so many choices, but my server helped me by recommending his favorites. I got the Vanilla Heath Bar Crunch and it was great. I walked to the register to pay and saw these awesome cookies and brownies..I'm gonna try them next time....oh and I need to try the coffee too!

Great atmosphere. The store is very brightly colored and drawings that little kids color are all over one wall. Staff is very friendly and patient.

Parking is tricky, but it is definitely worth it!

Finally, a Ben & Jerry's in Houston!!!!!

by Carlosbob at Citysearch

Located in the old Dolce & Freddo location on Kirby, the place is packed like Dolce never was! All my favorite flavors are there, Chunky Monkey, Cherry Garcia, Phish Food. Plus there are some I have not seen before, and new low carb ice cream for you Atkins dieters. I went with the CoffeeCoffeeBuzzBuzzBuzz in a waffle cone.

WOW!!!

Absolutely the best ice cream in Houston! They also serve espresso & coffees and make ice cream cakes!!! The atmosphere is great, too. All the employees wear the tie-dyed tees and classic 60's rock plays over the speakers. It's not an act either as Ben & Jerry's is very active in enviromental causes. God I love this place!

  • Pros: Best Ice Cream, Atmosphere, Coffee
  • Cons: , Little Parking

The best ice cream hands down!

by dharris_1 at Citysearch

For years I've been waiting for Ben & Jerry's to come to H-Town and finally there's one in my own neighborhood!

If you've never been to a Ben & Jerry's store, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. I read the previous review that says that you can buy a pint at the local supermarket... is just like saying: "Why go to starbucks when you can have the same with a jar of Sanka and hot water..."

The atmosphere is GREAT, and on weekend nights the patio is the place to see and be seen.

The variety of flavors is huge... and you can sample any flavor you want.

On Friday and Saturday nights the line tends to be longer, but well worth the wait (5 minutes aprox) since these kids scoop fast!

I wish they had a larger parking lot, but who does in Rice Village?

  • Pros: Great Ice Cream, Fun Atmosphere, The best brownies!

You can buy a pint .....

by mia_77002 at Citysearch

The Ice Cream is great. Just like the stuff you buy at the store. But, if you want a topping might as well bring your own. I ordered walnuts on my small(weighed by the ounce) cup of Ice Cream. When I was handed my $2.49 SMALL (weighed by the ounce) cup with 5 walnuts on top and that's being nice. It was upsetting, the same for the sprinkles. My daughter ordered spinkles, they were gone with one bite. I love ice cream and enjoy eating it at an ice cream shop and I don't mind paying for it. But there was something about having my i-cream weighed that rubbed me the wrong way. The server litterally took some out of my cup because it weighed too much. I could buy a pint or two for the $7.12 I spent on 2 small scoops, 5 walnuts and a spoon of sprinkles.
