What a little gem1

by sopretty2

I visited Elan today for the 1st time. I had been a regular at the Downtown Club at the Met until they closed. I really just stumbled on this place while doing a google search.

I had no problems making a reservation and when I arrived, I was expected, was taken into a fabulous waiting room and given a bottle of water. Waiting in the waiting room was so relaxing and I had access to various snacks and foods. Heather arrived and she was so nice to me. I will for sure go back to Elan again. It was so tranquil, the staff were so nice, the decor was just out of this world and the price is where it should be.

Thanks Heather for a great experience and I will for sure spread the word.

  • Pros: Ambiance, atmosphere, hygiene and staff
  • Cons: Cant think of any.

Depends on what service you get

by shysong

I have visited the downtown location several times, mostly because it is very close to my house so it is a short walk when I need a quick fix. I have nothing but good things to say about the facials -- soothing, relaxing, administered well and with high quality products.

The massages are less consistent -- while the massage therapist does have good technique, she does have problems managing her time; more than once the end of the hour arrives and she has to skip body parts (e.g., feet) because she spent too much time somewhere else (usually back) earlier in the massage. If I'm paying for a full body massage, it is important to me that all body parts get massaged -- so either manage your time better, or spend extra time (at the spa's expense, not the client's) to make sure all body parts get attention.

The weakest service there, however, by far, is the manicure and pedicure. I just paid $45 for a pedicure -- the technician put mask and lotion on my legs but not my feet, because she had already polished my nails. It seems to me that if you're paying for a PEDIcure, that your feet should get all the products your legs get, and then some. The worst part, though, is the polish. No ridge filler to smooth out the nail bed (not even at least an attempt to buff down the ridges), and a very sloppy polish job, with color outside my nail in spots, and two very uneven coats of polish and top coat (she hurried her way through the job, so there were parts of the nail that only got one coat, or two coats and no top coat, you get the idea). To me, this is what you pay for with a mani or pedi -- smoothly polished hands/feet, with no enamel mistakes. For the less than the $45 I paid for the pedi I could have gotten both a mani and a pedi at In Style nails, and of better quality.

So in short, go for the skin care, stay away from the nail care at this place.

  • Pros: Good location, good facials
  • Cons: inconsistent massages, consistently poor nail services

very accommodating?.

by realangel

my husband and I read the reviews of this spa before we went, as we do all businesses from now on, we thought we'd check it out for ourselves. It was our first time at this one, another one we visited was extremely upscale located in the galleria area, so it would be hard to compete it they weren't on the same quality level. We were not disappointed, we had a couples message and it was so pleasant, even though we had the deep tissue message. I went once again, and took my niece at the last minute for her birthday, they seen both of us, my niece said she loved the atmosphere, and her message was fine, but I had deep tissue again, we was absoutely wonderful, then I treated my husband for Father's Day, he kept going on and on about it, again they seen him at the last minute, then again at the last minute, I took my mother for her 75th birthday...it was her first time, she REALLY NEEDED IT, for medical reason and so forth. The therphist I normal see was book, she has gotten popular by now, so my mother had a male. The place is very clean, the atmosphere is wonderful. Will continue to go!!

  • Pros: very clean
  • Cons: book on Saturdays

Poor customer service, inexperienced staff

by jkuzin

I have been to this spa several times for massages and facials. The last time I was there the facial was semi miserable. The girl was inexperienced, rough, left me alone in the room with a cold towel on my face. Needless to say, it was not worth my money or my time. I tried to place a complaint with the check out staff and received very little support, they had not comment cards either. They took my name and number on a post it note and told me the "boss" would call me. I sent email complaints in from the website and called several more times. I never received a return email or phone call.

Unfortunately, I received a gift card from my husband from this place. I went the following day to request a refund secondary to my previous experience. Guess what? There was no one that could authorize that, no manager to talk to. So once again I left my number, and haven't heard from anyone yet. Also, after I left the spa, I was looking on their website and the picture of the director (Loan Doung) was behind the counter when I was requesting a refund. This place is so shady and I do not recommend it to anyone!!!

Soothing and relaxing massage to melt your pains and troubles away......

by bc5texas

I went in to Elan Day Spa for a massage and didn't want to leave. The food and French decor was warm and inviting. The relaxation room made me feel like I was on vacation in France. Then, Candace greeted me with her warm smile and gentle voice. Her table was heated so I didn't catch a chill during the most soothing and effective massage I've ever received. Candace also made sure to stretch me and pay attention to my pressure points while gently working out my knots. She even made me laugh and fall asleep a few times during our session. I could hardly get off of the table after our session had ended. I will definitely fit Candace into my monthly budget!! I wish I would have discovered this earlier. Now I have a vacation destination right here in town with my favorite masseuse!!

  • Pros: French decor, food, water, heated tables, Candace
  • Cons: none

Best Pedicure Ever

by hang23

I went to Elan Day Spa (downtown location) twice and everytime was wonderful. I had a pedicure the first time and Heather did a fantastic job. She made my feet silky smooth and the scrub and warm towels felt incredible. It was amazing but so affordable. I went to other spas for pedicures but this place is top notch. The second time I went was even better. I had the pomegranate and cranberry body polish and it was amazing. Heather once again took care of me and she was very professional. She had a precise and soothing touch and did a great job. I recommended this place to all my friends and family. All of them have enjoyed their experience. My sisters and I are now addicted to their services so we will come back for sure. My Rating for this spa is "Highly Recommended" but the system won't let me save it (it's stuck on "Average") so I have to write it in my message to clarify this.

  • Pros: Heather, excellent food and drink, quiet and relaxed ambiance
  • Cons: None

Not the greatest

by jaycat26

I used to get my eyebrows waxed here, but the person who did the best job left. I went back twice after she left to get my eyebrows waxed and had two different people. Both times weren't good. The first person overwaxed my eyebrows...making them look short. The second person didn't bother tweezing. I haven't had any problems with the customer service and everyone treated me nicely there, but the results weren't worth it.

  • Pros: Nice interior
  • Cons: Inexperienced staff

Cindy's relaxing massage is Magnificent! Great Place!

by smy2021

A few weeks ago, I visited Elan Day Spa with a drabby look on my face. I had just came there after work and was truly stressed. I was looking for a good massage to wake me up, and what I got was even more! I had requested Cindy because all my friends said she was the one to go to if I needed a wakin-up! She was truly amazing. She concentrated mostly on my neck and shoulders which really helped. She released all my knots and after the massage was over, I felt like a new person! I think she gave me the best massage I could ever recieve in Houston!

Everything was every nice at Elan Day Spa, especially Cindy's massage! She was sooo relaxing, I almost fell asleep! I truly recomend requesting her! Elan has a very relaxing enviroment and great staff with wide and happy smiles!

Overall, I think this is the best Spa in Houston.

  • Pros: Cindy! Nice Staff! Great Service!

Worst Pedicure.....a nightmare.

by valleygirl1968

I used to get pedicures at Elan and feel welcomed and left with gorgeous toes. My most recent visit was a nightmare. The nail technician kept glaring up at me and seemed to be in a bad mood. To make matters worse, she cut my skin twice when clipping my toe nails. When I pulled back in pain, she just muddled something in another language and didn't even try to comfort me. Two days later, my polish was already chipping off, which in addition to the cuts on my toes, looked worse than when I went in for the pedicure. I wish they still had Jackie or Annie. They used to make conversation with me, bring me hot tea, and gave a fabulous pedicure.

  • Pros: Free food
  • Cons: Mean Nail Technician
