Comfort Bar
by Brendav79
I have been here three times and each time there has been a different dj spinning. I absolutley love the quirky decor and the comfortable atmosphere. The people there are always genuine in the sense that they are there for a good time and nothing else. If you are not pretentious and enjoy all kinds of music then this is the place for you.
Pretentiousness...not here...Affordable Fun...hell yes!!!

I'm tired of the new downtown and mid town bars that look pricy, polished and have no substance. I don't like lines and I'm not going to valet. I want a cool place with a good selection of affordable beverages, visual entertainment and good music. That's the GRAB. Open for over 4 years, this is the best dive bar with the best beer and liquor selection on the fence of midtown and downtown.
There are TV's with local sports, Adult Swim and the latest DVD releases with subtitles always grabbing my attention. The Grab's calendar of DJ's and live music is usally on a once a month rotation. This IS the place for up and coming DJ's. Each night has at least two DJ's spinning vinyl. Remeber vinyl? This is not a place with DJ's who do weddings; no cd's allowed. If anything they've been kicked out of weddings.
I love the varietly and the fact that each time I go there something has changed. It's alot like a chameleon. New artwork, new furniture, new games, new people, new specials, new experiences; that's the GRAB.
If you're looking for a meat market, go valet your leased vehicle, wait in line, pay your $10-20 cover, wait 3 deep at the club for your overpriced cocktail; I'll be at the GRAB, Sitting at the bar watching the Rockets, slamming my cheap Irish Car Bomb and ordering an Ice Cold Stella. Cheers!!!
- Pros: Music, WIFI, Wii, Texas Hold'em, Flip Cup, DJ's and Pizza.
- Cons: Small Patio/Smoking Area, No Domestic Pitchers.

- Pros: stiff drinks
- Cons: door guy , parking
Best "WELL HUNG Caucasian" cocktail ever!
by WitchyWonka
From the moment i walked into this cozy little bar that i never heard of at the time, i felt the warm and fuzzy vibe.
I started coming to the Grab early last year and it truly is my bar of choice in this great big city.
The Grab offers such a diverse atmosphere from Live music to special events like local film mixers and the occasional BodyArt parties. This place has no fear. The Grab is all about our local artist. The decor is made up of Graffiti and artwork from talented local artists.
I even have my own custom drink I named "Well Hung Caucasian" that was created just for me by one of the bartenders i refer to as "The fabulous Alexa". My normal drink at first was a "White Russian" aka "Caucasian" as referred to in the movie "The Big Lebowski". Add equal part banana liquor and now you have a "WELL HUNG Caucasian". So when you stop by ask for my "WELL HUNG Caucasian" and tell them Witchy Wonka sent you. Chances are that I'll be there so come say hi!
People often refer to The Grab as Houston's "Cheers 2008". So if you want a place where everyone knows your name, always remembers your drink and often serves it to you before you order it, the Grab is what you've been looking for. The Grab even has a back porch for the smokers.

My own Cheers

I have been going here for over a year now, and i'm often here several times a week. I have held a party here, and i always have a blast.
The bartenders all know my name, and they'll get to know yours too once you start going often. Once you start going, this place is like a second home and family of sorts. Hugs from the owner and bartenders, and they always remember what you drink.
They can be a bit picky about specials [i.e if its advertised on myspace, mention that there is a myspace special or there won't be a special at all].
Music is always good, and if you get there semi early [around 9], there are sometimes some hilarious drunken stragglers that got there after work and haven't left yet, and they will talk to you, and you will laugh.
- Pros: Cheap cheap drinks, parking is always free and ample, friendly staff that gets to know you
- Cons: although they've up-ed the art, it's not a flashy downtown bar [this isn't really a con for me, but may be for others- if flashy and tacky is your thing]
Despite its laid-back atmosphere, this downtown billiards bar-sports bar-music spot knows how to throw a party.

In Short
What may sound like an identity crisis is actually an all-in-one nightlife spot. GRAB started as a sports bar, and the latest game can still be seen on any of the many TVs throughout the bar. But it's also a popular spot with the downtown after work crowd taking advantage of happy hour drink discounts. And if neither of those are your scene, check out one of the frequent DJ and dance events held at the bar.
If you're looking for something different...

Then "The Grab" is something to see for yourself. It seems that this sports bar/club/gameroom can't decide what it wants to be. The bartenders are friendly and the prices are reasonable, but the atmosphere and the decor is something to question, from the artwork on the walls to the funky, broken furniture. It would be much better if it were a genuine sports bar. The music is good, (be sure to check out the jukebox), and if you happen to show up while a dj is spinning, then you're in luck.
Change of Pace Downtown

The Grab is a breath of fresh air downtown. It is great to go to a place and not have to worry about a fussy dress-code or a fru-fru drink costing $10 a pop. The service is personable and prices are very reasonable. You can also have a conversation at the bar without screaming over the games on tv or the juke box. Great place to watch sports or play pool too. Some of the regulars are a little scary but make for an unusual experience.
- Pros: Ambiance, Service, Price
- Cons: , Some of Regulars
Sit back and enjoy!

If you like a place where the bartender will remember your name and great drink prices ALL the time so that you arent headed to another bar for better prices, the GRAB is the place! Sit back or play some pool, enjoy the conversation and the prices!
- Pros: Inexpensive, Free parking
