Good yoga exercise, bad "brain wave training"
1 Star Rating: Not Recommended

I attended the dahn yoga studio on Shepherd for 7 months, up to 3 to 4 times per week. I never found a better stretching exercise anywhere, nor nicer people, and that's where it ends. They are very secretive about taking your picture and posting it on the board there, unbeknown to me! Why the secrecy (sp) I don't know, but I objected strongly to that practice. Turns out, you give them permission to take and use your picture as the wish when you sign the contract - small print!. I came to see that this is not simple yoga. After 6 months they started "brain wave training", with strange intense drumbeats getting louder and louder, while the students sat on the floor with eyes closed and body swaying side to side. I was waiting for them to serve grape Kool-Aid! This exercise was increased to 3 classes per week and as I wanted only the physical yoga exercise, there were only 3 days I could attend class. The fee is very expensive. I have a number of other serious problems about the unbusinesslike way the studio was run, but by far the worse, was that I began to see this is a cult-like organization. One should Google the founder's name, Ilchi Lee, (founder of "brain respiration") for surprising, or not so surprising, info on this man. Not without controversy. I will say again that for my needs, keeping my muscles flexible, I never found anything better, but as you get to know the organization, you will find it is certainly not only about yoga. At times they use a small plastic vibrator shaped just like a brain, and place it on some spot on your body. It's rather interesting to go just to see what they do next. It's really too bad they don't keep the part of their teaching separate from the physical yoga training.
