not really yoga

to be honest, i haven't taken a class here, i went in to get information about a drop-in class, which is a completely normal thing for a yoga studio to do--but dahn doesn't allow drop-ins! i was told i had to purchase an entire series of classes, it wasn't possible to take just one.
what kind of a yoga studio won't allow you to take a single class to see if you like them? that's de rigueur for a 'real' yoga studio. the woman i spoke with was a 'close talker' and made me very uncomfortable, set off all my alarms. there's something creepy about this, and it's not really yoga. best i can figure, it's a hybrid of yoga, tai chi and meditation, which is fine, but if you google it you'll find that others have had some odd experiences there. i'm not sure what it is, but it's not yoga.
- Cons: it's just creepy
Good yoga exercise, bad "brain wave training"

I attended the dahn yoga studio on Shepherd for 7 months, up to 3 to 4 times per week. I never found a better stretching exercise anywhere, nor nicer people, and that's where it ends. They are very secretive about taking your picture and posting it on the board there, unbeknown to me! Why the secrecy (sp) I don't know, but I objected strongly to that practice. Turns out, you give them permission to take and use your picture as the wish when you sign the contract - small print!. I came to see that this is not simple yoga. After 6 months they started "brain wave training", with strange intense drumbeats getting louder and louder, while the students sat on the floor with eyes closed and body swaying side to side. I was waiting for them to serve grape Kool-Aid! This exercise was increased to 3 classes per week and as I wanted only the physical yoga exercise, there were only 3 days I could attend class. The fee is very expensive. I have a number of other serious problems about the unbusinesslike way the studio was run, but by far the worse, was that I began to see this is a cult-like organization. One should Google the founder's name, Ilchi Lee, (founder of "brain respiration") for surprising, or not so surprising, info on this man. Not without controversy. I will say again that for my needs, keeping my muscles flexible, I never found anything better, but as you get to know the organization, you will find it is certainly not only about yoga. At times they use a small plastic vibrator shaped just like a brain, and place it on some spot on your body. It's rather interesting to go just to see what they do next. It's really too bad they don't keep the part of their teaching separate from the physical yoga training.

Dahn yoga classes concentrate on yoga fitness, breathwork and meditation. Intensive master class includes weekend seminar and weekly trainings.
Dahn Yoga

This is not the typical Hindu yoga. They consider this Korean yoga. I think they are using the word "yoga" as a buzz word that will attract people to join. False Advertisement as far as I am concerned. I asked a couple of times for a written description of the various classes, workshops, and training available along with the cost. They pulled out their manual and read me the information. Never did have a handout that I could take home and evaluate. Very pushy about joining. I chose a 3 month membership to see if I liked it. After 2 weeks, I was called in for some extra "breathing" instruction. After about 5 minutes, while I'm laying on the floor (subordinate position) the Master started on why I did not sign up for a year. They could help me so much more; take care of myself so I can better take care of those around me ... I tried politely to tell her that I was comfortable with my commitment. When personal medical information followed by what I considered "Practicing medicine without a license", I got out of there as fast as I could. Practicing medicine without a license is a crime in this country. The weekend workshops are at least $200.00. Steep price for something that is not explained well.
After 2 1/2 weeks I called the main office in Arizona and voiced my displeasure I did receive a refund for everything but 1 month of classes and the "required uniform". I won't even elaborate on the uniform rip off.
Do your research then make your choice.

I have been dahn member for 6months. I love the programs what dahn yoga has offered . they have variety programs from Physical improvement to Emotion health. I just wanted to exercise because of physical issues at the beginning, but after 4months I can get more benefits what I didn't expect.
I highly recommend you experience to improve Health, Happy, Peace.

I had signed up at the Dahn Yoga on FM1960 - I actually enjoyed the "yoga" sessions and felt great. I had never had yoga before so I have nothing to compare it to. They were just way to pushy and if you missed a session, they really wanted you to explain where you were. It is very expensive and they constantly want you to go to their seminars on weekends. They make you feel like there is something wrong with you if you don't "go higher" with them, and it is very secretive. If you go to one of their weekend seminars, you are NOT to discuss it with any other class members. The seminars want you to bring out your "inner child" and they insist that you have problems that only they can solve. I went to a "Friday Nite" session before going to one of their "weekend seminars", and after that Friday nite lesson of what was going to happen at the next 2 day seminar, I left and never went back. I forfeited some future lessons, but didn't care because it was just too wierd.
- Pros: Regular classes were fine.
- Cons: It is ridiculously expensive and they are very pushy to get you to do more.

Me and my girlfriend signed up for the exercise but they kept trying to schedule extra sessions for some kind of healing. Of course, it cost more money. They were very nice but pushy about money. Also, there was a kind of strange world peace agenda - not exactly yoga that we had ever seen.
Too Expensive by DEEPESH J. at InsiderPages

I had heard great things about Dahn Yoga before coming to this location. It is very peaceful there and the instructors are very skilled and talented at Tai Chi. However, I was very shocked by how expensive this program was. Although it is very good for your mind and body, I had not planned on spending so much money for this.
