Appropriate

Went for the first time on Father's day with reservations easily had through their web page. We were promptly seated and served.

The steaks were appropriately cooked and marbled while the oysters Rockefeller were spot on. While I thought the quality of steak was comparable to Sullivans or Pappa Brothers, my dad thought V&A was better. Similar to Ruth Chris, they use quite a bit of butter and a tad of seasoning; I typically can go without the butter, but the steak was quite good none the less. The daily specials sounded delicious, but were overpriced. Side dishes sounded generic and bland -- we skipped them and added salads instead.

The atmosphere is upscale and a half-notch above the standard upscale steakhouses mentioned above. They have an excellent desert menu, with a wide variety of Cognac, brandy, and dessert wines.

  • Pros: Good Service, Nice atmosphere
  • Cons: Pricey

Good

I had dinner here last night with several friends. We had a very good experience with the food & service. I would highly recommend the au gratin potatoes & chocolate cake. I'm not big on sweets & typically don't order deserts, but the chocolate cake is great & will melt in your mouth. I would recommend Vic & Anthony's, but not the filet.

Iceberg wedge salad: 4/5

filet mignon: 3/5 - cooked right (medium), but dry & not flavorful

mashed potatoes: 4/5

au gratin potatoes: 5/5

chocolate cake: 5/5 - melts in your mouth

service: 5/5 - service w/ a smile

ambience: 5/5 - nice decor

  • Pros: au gratin potatoes, chocolate cake, wine list, service

Disappointing

by stefftxgrl at Citysearch

I ordered the two most recommended items by the waitstaff and was extremely disappointed in both. The crab cake was fishy and the bone in ribeye was fatty and had no flavor.

For the price I think the food is highly overrated.

Loved it!!!

My husband and I went to Vic and Anthony's to celebrate my birthday. We had reservations at 7pm but due to a family emergency we were running late. So I called to let them know we would be a little late and the hostess politely informed us that they could only hold our table for 30 min. We didn't make it there until 8:30 but the hostess still had us seated even though it was a Saturday night and they were clearly very busy. The food was excellent and worth every penny. I could cut my filet with a butter knife, au gratin potatoes are to die for, and for dessert we had the chocolate moose cake which is amazing.

  • Pros: great service and great food
  • Cons: valet, expensive

Fantastic Food, Scenery, and Service!

by texasborn87 at Citysearch

My boyfriend and i wanted to go somewhere special for his birthday, and we had heard so many great things about Vic and Anthony's that we had to try it for ourselves. Needless to say we had an amazing time. When we first arrived, being a typical Friday night, the valet was backed up but we got through. After getting through the crowd at the front door we decided to have a drink in the bar before going to the table. When we were ready to be seated we were immediately taken to our table, which was a nice booth tucked away in the corner. The server was waiting at the table for us to sit down. We ordered a great bottle of wine suggested by the rather young wine steward (William-Seylem Pinot Noir) and had a crab cake that completely lives up to the hype. My boyfriend's steak was prepared to perfection and my tuna was amazing! I was a little worried about whether or not the sever knew about the fact that it was my boyfriend's birthday, but the hostess in charge must have let the server know, because when the server brought our creme brulee it said "Happy Birthday" in chocolate with a candle! It was a nice touch that the server made no mention of the birthday although I was a little nervous. This place really has it together. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a special place to celebrate.

  • Pros: Friendly & attentive staff
  • Cons: valet was a little congested

Blonde is a b**ch (rating would be perfect is she was not apart of it)

Well first off my first impression there was the greeting of a very unpleasant hostess. I think her name was Anna... Anyhow, she never smiled and was very short with me and my husband on our 25th anniversary. I understand you are trained to say certain things to the guest but when you sound robotic and we can't understand you because you are speaking to fast don't get offended and snarl at me to go to the bar because we couldn't understand you. Aside from that Shannon the, in contrast, pleasant manager was very polite and increased the experience from the rude hostess. We order a Filet Mignon which was by far the most exquisite tasting steak I have tasted in years! The Australian Lobster Tail which was surprisingly good seeing as how it was a steakhouse. That's another thing, you know your restaurant is superior when even your seafood tops, conquers and kills other fine dining seafood restaurants. Our server, we told the rude hostess, that we wanted on our next visit because he was so friendly and inviting. I think his name was Robert.

  • Pros: Everything aside from the blonde
  • Cons: the blonde

Not worth the money! The food is like a typical Landry's Restaurant with a more upscale interior.

by desjardine at Citysearch

My husband and I took a friend to this restaurant because another steak restaurant we liked was closed on sunday's. We went before a Rockets game. My husband and i were dissappointed. The food was as good as one of their Landry restaurants, which is good but it's not fine dining quality food which is what they charge at Vic and Anthonys. We don't mind paying for a good meal in fact that's a major part of our entertainment is dining but Vic and Anthony's doesn't measure up in the food category. The service and the interior decor is of a finer restaurant but the food simply is at the quality of their other chain restaurants. There are too many great restaurants in Houston to waste an evening out at Vic and Anthonys. Maybe going to have a drink at the bar to enjoy the place is good enough but I won't be going there or recommending this place to anyone.

  • Pros: Proximity to the Baseball and Basketball stadiums
  • Cons: The Food is no better than the chain Landrys restaurants but double the price. Not worth it!

Overrated

I was a bit disappointed with the lack of customer service from the hostesses. I never understand it when you go through the process of making reservations and still have to wait 40 minutes to be seated, while patrons walk in and are immediately seated. That night was a special occasion for me and this experience left me feeling very disappointed. The ambiance was nice granted, but I was there for more than just the atmosphere. I have no desire to return.

  • Pros: musician was awesome
  • Cons: customer service from hosting booth

great anniversary experience

by milford at Citysearch

We went to V&Anthony's on our 34th anniversary, the ambience and decor is a great tribute to the atmosphere one would expect in a high class resturant environment. When we checked on the dress requirement before making reservations we were told that dress was suit/coat and tie and nice womens apparell. We saw people in shorts and blue jeans and non related attire; this was somewhat of a shock after being dressed up and seeing the class of decor and furnishings of the resturant. However; the dining experience was excellent and the food was awesome; we went a little extravagant on the menu but expected to pay high for our 34th anniversary experience. Our waitress was very nice and courteous and was attentive to our table needs or questions etc. This is not your ordinary steak house; we wnt to the striphouse last year, although it was a nice experience; V&Athony''s was by far the better of the two. You must understand when you go for class and excellent dining that there is a price to go with it; The austrailian rock lobster was the BEST we have ever had; the wife had lobster and I had the Best steak I have ever had. We had the choclate souflae; boy was this an awesome surprise to end the meal with. The hotel furnished us pick up and delivery so we cannot comment on their valet service. Our all around experience is rated 5 star by my wife and I. Hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did.

  • Pros: thumbs up on decor and atmosphere
  • Cons: need to have a stricter dress code [definitely NO SHORTS and T-shirts]

Good food and service; reasonable if you watch what you order (First of 2 Posts)

My wife and I went to V&A?s for her birthday. We frequent high-end steak houses, so we like to think we have some experience with which to compare our experience.

We drove up in a Mazda 3, and the valet service ignored us. So, we parked across the street for $5. My wife was offended, but I wasn?t going to let that ruin the evening.

At dinner, I had the Caesar salad and found it very average. My wife had the pear and blue cheese salad and enjoyed it immensely. The blue cheese was soft and mild, unlike the typical dry and more pungent variety. Our fillets were tender and perfectly cooked to order (medium rare), but a little lacking in flavor. We disagree with a posting here that denigrates the side-dishes; we had the potatoes au gratin and creamed spinach and found them to be excellent. I had told the hostesses twice that it was my wife's birthday, but they forgot. So, no celebratory desert, despite seeing two others served the requisite cake with candle.

Service was attentive and pleasant. I couldn't get to the bottom of my water glass no matter how hard I tried; the bus-boys filled it back up with each sip.

V&A?s is on par or better than Fleming?s, and far superior to The Strip. If the newly opened Del Frisco?s is as good as the one in Dallas, then V&A?s might be in trouble. We think the Landry's chains are blights on the face of culinary experience, but this one time they mainly get it right.

  • Pros: Food, service, decor, wine list (bottle)
  • Cons: Parking, wine list (by-the-glass)
