I absolutely LOVEEE barnaby's!! I've tried a lot of the menu, and have yet to eat anything that I was unhappy with. The meatloaf is fantastic, so good that when I order antyhing else there I normally ask for the meatloaf sauce on the side. It's great and will be returning shortly.
- Pros: everything is amazing!
- Cons: parking
Don't go

Poor service; mediocre food. Pretentious clientele; full of yuppie wannabe's. We were sitting outside when it started to rain and the waiter could not figure out what to do even though there was an unused umbrella at the table next door.
Great Food, Great Place, and.........

First of all,the waiter failed to greet us,or introuduce himself, in any fashion and sneered, when he curtly asked "what can I get you drink". I tried to over look that. I have ordered the samething from the breakfast menu that I always do since going to Barnaby's. He tried steering me to another item that was more expensive.I know I should not be judgemental. Barnaby's is a very good restaurant, with great staff. What happened today was not the norm. I hope this waiter will get the training he needs, so that he can catch up to his more pleasant and customer service oriented co-workers.
- Pros: Great Healthy Food
- Cons: See below
Good place to break up

The noise is so loud, you can't have a decent conversation. It's extremely crowded at lunch time, so arrive early or expect a long wait. Tables are quite close together, so expect a cozy experience. The hostess desk was multi-tasking seating people, taking phone orders, etc., so there was a long wait to even pay the bill. All in all, I'd say way over-rated. The menu had nothing that jumped out and said, "Try me. This looks interesting."
One big yawn.
- Pros: Lots of healthy lunch choices
- Cons: Noisy, crowded

- Cons: can't think of any!

We frequented Barnaby's quite a bit when we lived in the Montrose area. The have good sized portions (the salads are HUGE) and a lemonade to die for. The service was always prompt and we really loved the quality of the food. I personally loved the egg salad sandwiches. There are a few more locations around town, so try them out and see if you like them. We know we did!
- Pros: Food quality
- Cons: parking
healthy

My wife likes the healthy options on the menu. I've had the flat iron steak and the chicken with brown rice. Both left me feeling satisfied. It's hard to find a place that serves brown rice without a bunch of junk in it. The service has been good every time.
- Pros: Healthy, Good,
- Cons: None
Love the green eggs and also the meatloaf dish

If I am asked 'where do you want to go to eat?' I always know I can count on food from this place to be yummy... well, at least two dishes that are the only dishes I really order. I don't like swaying. If I find something good, I really stick to it.
Ask them for the horseradish sauce instead of the regular red tomato sauce they serve up with the meatloaf. Tasty!
I'm disappointed b/c they don't have a lot of breadchoices like bagels or engish muffins. I don't even think they have rye bread...
I just remember asking them for 3 different but rather standard restaurant things in a row and they kept on saying, "Nope, we don't have that". I think corn beef has was amongst the list but I forget now.
I will just keep to ordering my two favorites.
On a side note, I did take out one time because I recalled getting a huge helping of guacamole during dine in, but when I did the take out, i was VERY upset when I opened the tiny pint size container that was filled 3/4 with shredded lettuce and a tiny dollop of guac. It was very embarrassing for me because I was bringing it to a Xmas party I was invited to and again... remembered that their dine in helping was so large.
- Pros: can always count on the food being good quality.
- Cons: dine out quantity not the same as dine in
Best food for the price and excellent service

Since moving to Houston I have found Barnaby's on West Gray to be one of my favorite places to eat. We've tried the Barnabys on Shephard but like the atmosphere of the one on West Gray much better.
My favorite is the Lunas Meat Lasagna......and the spinach is great too. My fiance gets the chicken salad and loves it! Keep in mind the portions are generous, you won't be hungry when you leave. I eat a TON of food and I never leave Barnabys feeling hungry. For light eaters I'd suggest getting the half portion if they offer it, that's usually plenty of food for most people. We've tried almost everything on the menu and have always left happy. My fiance and I never spent more than $30 when we go there and that always includes the tip. We usually get a couple of ice teas but if it's a weekend we'll get some wine and the price never goes over that. It's usually under $20 with a tip. I'm usually pretty generous with tips though....
Barnaby's on west gray was actually where my fiance and I met on our first date. I figured great food, atmosphere, service and it wouldn't dent my wallet on a first date ;-) She's been in love with it every since.
We took her family there after we got engaged to show them this restaurant we kept talking about. There were 10 of us and for the whole meal, including the tip, drinks (alcohol and regular drinks), food, and multiple desserts, we paid around $130. I know the waiter helped us out because he liked us, but where can you get a great meal for 10 people on that type of budget??? Everyone was amazed with the service, the GREAT food and we had a fun time. Now when our family comes in from out of town we know where to go!
A few extra tidbits.....
They have done a few updates to the interior to make it look nicer. You may have to park in the street if it's busy but parking is pretty easy. You normally would seat yourself but if you have a large group they will be happy to help you out.
- Pros: Food is amazing and large portions, service is great
- Cons: Seating....You have to seat yourself but they will gladly help with large parties
